Kenneth Michael Karas (born 1964) is a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Karas was born in Colorado Springs,Colorado. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University in 1986 magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa and a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School in 1991,one of the Harlan Fiske Stone Scholars. [2] Karas was a law clerk for Judge Reena Raggi of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York in 1992. He was an assistant United States attorney of the Southern District of New York from 1992 to 2004.
On September 18,2003,Karas was nominated by President George W. Bush to a seat on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York vacated by Judge Allen G. Schwartz. [3] Karas was confirmed by the United States Senate on June 3,2004,and received his commission on June 13,2004. [4] [5]
He is married to Frances Bivens. [2]
