Kevin Lamont Peterson (born March 22, 1994) is a former American football cornerback. He played college football at Oklahoma State. He was a member of the Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, and Arizona Cardinals. Peterson is currently the Cornerbacks Coach for DII powerhouse Colorado State University - Pueblo.

Early life

Peterson played high school football at Wagoner High School in Wagoner, Oklahoma. He recorded 1,621 rushing yards, 25 rushing touchdowns, 42 tackles and 3 interceptions his senior year in 2011, helping Wagoner win the Class 4A State title. This was the first football state championship in school history. [1] [2] In 2011, Peterson was named Oklahoma's Defensive Player of the Year by The Oklahoman and also earned SuperPrep All-American honors. [3] [4] He also participated in track and basketball at Wagoner. [1] In May 2011, he won the state championship in both the 100 meters and 200 meters. [5] [1] [4]

College career

Peterson lettered for the Oklahoma State Cowboys of Oklahoma State University from 2012 to 2015. [1] He played in 13 games, starting 1, in 2012, recording 16 solo tackles, 4 tackle assists and 2 pass breakups. [6] [7] He played in 12 games, starting 11, in 2013, recording 20 solo tackles, 4 tackle assists, 2 interceptions and 4 pass breakups. Peterson played in 13 games, all starts, in 2014, recording 53 solo tackles, 6 tackle assists, 2 interceptions and 11 pass breakups. [6] [7] He played in 12 games, starting 11, in 2015, recording 36 solo tackles, 6 tackles assists, 1 interception, 6 pass breakups and 1 fumble recovery. [7] He missed the first game of the season due to injury. In 2015, Peterson was a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalst, earned First-team All-Big 12 Conference honors and was named a team captain. He majored in education at Oklahoma State. [1] He was invited to play in the Senior Bowl in January 2016. However, he suffered a high-ankle sprain before the game and did not play in it. [8]

Professional career

Pre-draft

Peterson was rated the 42nd best cornerback in the 2016 NFL draft by NFLDraftScout.com. [9] Lance Zierlein of NFL.com predicted that he would be drafted in the sixth or seventh round, stating "Size limitations make a move inside as a nickel corner possible, but he has enough quickness and coverage savvy to stick on a roster." [10]

Chicago Bears

Peterson signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2016. [11] He was waived by the Bears on August 30, re-signed by the team on September 1 and waived again on September 3. [12] [13]

Los Angeles Rams

Peterson was signed to the practice squad of the Los Angeles Rams on December 27, 2016. [12] He signed a reserve/future contract with the Rams on January 3, 2017. [14]

On September 4, 2017, Peterson was waived by the Rams and signed to the practice squad the next day. [15] [16] He was promoted to the active roster on September 16, waived on September 19 and signed to the team's practice squad on September 21. [17] [18] [12] He was promoted back to the active roster on November 22, 2017. [19]

On August 11, 2018, Peterson was placed on injured reserve after he suffered a torn ACL in the Rams' first preseason game. [20] Without Peterson, the Rams reached Super Bowl LIII where they lost 13–3 to the New England Patriots.

Peterson was waived during final roster cuts on August 31, 2019. [21]

Arizona Cardinals

On September 1, 2019, Peterson was claimed off waivers by the Arizona Cardinals. [22] He played in 14 games before being placed on injured reserve on December 18, 2019. [23] He finished the season playing 14 games, with 22 tackles, and two passes defended.

On May 12, 2020, Peterson was re-signed by the Cardinals. [24] On November 11, 2020, Peterson was placed on injured reserve with a concussion. [25] He was activated on December 12, 2020, [26] and finished the year with six tackles, one pass defended, and a recovered fumble in 12 games.

In the 2021 season, Peterson played primarily on special teams, finishing the year with eight tackles in four games.

Robb-Davon Butler is an American former professional football defensive back who played one season with the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He was a three-year letterman in both football and track at Perry Traditional Academy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He earned All-State honors in football for his senior year in 1998. Butler played college football at Pittsburgh for two years as a cornerback. He then transferred to Robert Morris and played wide receiver. He redshirted his first season and caught 29 passes for 459 yards his second season. Butler converted to strong safety his senior season in 2003 and earned first-team Division I-AA All-American honors. After going undrafted in the 2004 NFL draft, he signed with the Chargers. He played in five games for the Chargers in 2004, recording seven total tackles and two kickoff returns. He later spent time with the Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Brigade, Erie RiverRats and Wheeling Wildcats.

Jared Scott Norris is an American former professional football linebacker who played for the Carolina Panthers and Washington Football Team of the National Football League (NFL). He played high school football at Centennial High School in Bakersfield, California, where he was a three-year starter and three-year letterman. He also earned All-State honors his senior year. Norris played college football at Utah, where he was a three-year starter and four-year letterman. His senior year in 2015, he was named second-team All-Pac-12 and played in the Senior Bowl. During his college career, Norris played in 42 games and started 32 of them. He recorded 269 total tackles, seven sacks, eight pass breakups, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He played his senior season of high school football at Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Florida. He played college football at Tennessee for four years. Williams played in 44 games, of which he started 21, during his college career, recording 66 tackles and 6.5 sacks. After going undrafted in the 2015 NFL draft, he signed with the New York Jets and spent time on the team's practice squad before being released in September 2015. He was then signed by the Dolphins, where he spent time on both the practice squad and active roster from 2015 to 2016. Williams played in one game for the Dolphins. Steven Longa is a Cameroonian-American former professional football linebacker who played for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He played high school football at Saddle Brook High School in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, where he earned All-State honors his senior year. He played college football at Rutgers, where he was a three-year letterman. In 2013, Longa was named a Freshman All-American after leading NCAA Division I in tackles by a freshman with 123. He was named third-team All-Big Ten Conference in 2015. He started 37 games during his college career and recorded 342 tackles, which was the third most in school history. Longa forwent his final year of college eligibility to enter the 2016 NFL draft. After going undrafted, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks. Trevor Williams is an American former professional football cornerback who played for the San Diego / Los Angeles Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, and Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). He played high school football at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, Maryland, where he was a two-year letterman and two-year team captain. He was named first-team All-State his senior year in 2011. Williams played college football at Penn State for four years. He was named honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference in 2014 and 2015. He played in 49 games during his college career, recording 84 tackles and five interceptions. After going undrafted in the 2016 NFL draft, he signed with the Chargers. He started 15 games for the Chargers in 2017 due to a season-ending injury to Jason Verrett. Despite being graded by Pro Football Focus as the 10th highest performing cornerback of the 2017 season, Williams was later benched in 2018 and struggled with injuries before being released by the Chargers in October 2019. Jarrod Wesley Pughsley is an American former professional football offensive guard who played for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL). He played football and basketball at Lima Senior High School in Lima, Ohio. He played college football at Akron, where he was a four-year letterman. Pughsley was named third-team All-MAC his senior year in 2013. He played in 35 games, and started 23 of them, during his college career. After going undrafted in the 2014 NFL draft, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys. However, Pughsley suffered an injury and was released in July 2014. He was then a member of the Chiefs from 2014 to 2016, spending the majority of the time on the practice squad. He played in two regular season games and one playoff game for the Chiefs in 2015. Pughsley was signed to the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad in November 2016 and was released by the team before the start of the 2017 regular season.
