King of Pro-Wrestling is an annual professional wrestling event promoted by New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). The event has been held every October since 2012 and aired domestically as a pay-per-view (PPV). The event also aired internationally as an internet pay-per-view (iPPV) until 2015, when it was moved to NJPW's worldwide internet streaming site, NJPW World.
King of Pro-Wrestling was created by Bushiroad, a card game company, which had bought NJPW in January 2012. [1] The event became NJPW's main show of October, a spot previously held by Destruction, which was instead moved back to September. The event takes place annually on the second Monday of October, the day of the Japanese public holiday known as the Health and Sports Day (体育の日, Taiiku no hi). Held annually at Tokyo's Ryōgoku Kokugikan, the event has been nicknamed "Autumn Showdown at Ryōgoku" (秋の両国決戦, Aki no Ryōgoku Kessen) and is considered NJPW's biggest event between August's G1 Climax and the January 4 Tokyo Dome Show. King of Pro-Wrestling is also the name of a collectible card game, created by Bushiroad. [6]
Kazuchika Okada is a Japanese professional wrestler. As of March 2024, he is signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where he is a member of The Elite stable and is the current AEW Continental Champion in his first reign. He is best known for his 18-year tenure in New Japan Pro-Wrestling where he was a five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, with his fourth reign being the longest in the company's history at 720 days. He also holds the record for most successful title defenses with 12. After the title was unified into the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, Okada went on to hold the new championship a record two times.
Chaos is a professional wrestling stable performing in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). The group was formed in 2009, when nearly all the members of the Great Bash Heel (G.B.H) stable turned on leader Togi Makabe and reformed under new leader Shinsuke Nakamura. Soon after, the new group was named Chaos, with Nakamura as the leader. As the leader of Chaos, Nakamura was one of NJPW's top wrestlers, winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and the IWGP Intercontinental Championship as well as the 2011 G1 Climax and the 2014 New Japan Cup.
Dominion is an annual professional wrestling event promoted by New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). The event has been held annually since 2009 as a pay-per-view (PPV). From 2013 to 2014, the event also aired outside Japan as an Internet pay-per-view (iPPV). Since 2015, the event has aired worldwide on NJPW's Internet streaming site, NJPW World. Dominion is the first major event following the Best of the Super Juniors tournament and usually includes a match, where the tournament winner challenges for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, assuming the champion has not won the tournament. In recent years, Dominion has developed into one of NJPW's showcase events and it is considered the biggest event since the January 4 Dome Show. The first six Dominions took place in June. In 2015, the event was moved to July, but was moved back to June the following year. Originally the event was held at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium until 2014; since 2015, the event has been held at Osaka-jō Hall. The 2020 event was scheduled to be held on June 14 but was postponed to July 12 to allow the rescheduled New Japan Cup to take place, this is the first time since 2015 that Dominion took place in July.
