The governor of New Jersey is the head of government of the U.S. state of New Jersey. The office of governor is an elected position with a four-year term. There is a two consecutive term term limit,with no limitation on non-consecutive terms. The official residence of the governor is Drumthwacket,a mansion located in Princeton,New Jersey. The governor's office is located inside of the New Jersey State House in Trenton,making New Jersey notable as the executive's office is located in the same building as the legislature. New Jersey is also notable for being one of the few states in which the governor's official residence is not located in the state capital.

The 2009 New Jersey gubernatorial election took place on November 3,2009. Christie won the election,with about 48.5 percent of the vote,to 44.9 percent for Corzine and 5.8 percent for Daggett. He assumed office on January 19,2010. This was the first election to fill the newly created office of lieutenant governor,with the candidates for governor choosing their running mates. Kim Guadagno,Christie's running mate,became New Jersey's first lieutenant governor following her inauguration.
Stephen Dilts is a former commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT),having been sworn into the post on December 16,2008,and leaving that position early in 2010. Dilts succeeded Kris Kolluri,who was shifted to head the $12.5 billion New Jersey Schools Development Authority.
A general election was held in the U.S. state of New Jersey on November 3,2009. Primary elections were held on June 2. Most state positions were up in this election cycle,which includes all 80 seats in the New Jersey General Assembly,as well as Governor and Lieutenant Governor. In addition to the State Legislative elections,numerous county offices and freeholders in addition to municipal offices were up for election. There was one statewide ballot question. Kimberly Ann Guadagno is an American lawyer and politician who served as the first lieutenant governor and 33rd secretary of state of New Jersey from 2010 to 2018.
Marlene Caride is an American politician who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2012 to 2018,where she represented the 36th Legislative District. Caride resigned from the Assembly in January 2018 pending her confirmation by the New Jersey Senate to serve as head of the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.
Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti is the former executive director of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and Florida's Turnpike Enterprise. She became acting commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation in January 2018 and was confirmed in June 2018 and acting director of the state's Transportation Trust Fund Authority. She also serves chair of the board for NJ Transit.
