History
The BMW Car Club Championship was started in 1987 by husband and wife team, John and Linda McVicker. The Championship was an amateur club series, for BMW owners who wished to race their BMW's at all the national circuits in the UK. The championship was open to all types of BMW from 2002s to CSLs, Bat Mobiles, new or old. The first race meeting took place on a cold and overcast Saturday at Silverstone where it the club managed to field a full grid.
The Championship continued under the BMW Car Club banner until late 1999, where the championship was renamed to the BMW Racing Drivers Club. The championship became the ‘Drivers Club’ where all the drivers had a say in how the organisation was run, and it is continues in that fashion to this day. The series is established as one of the fastest road tyred (treaded) championships in the country, but it is not necessary to use the latest models, or to run at the front to be competitive.
- The championship has its own driving standards policed by the competitors' own BMW Racing Drivers Club, membership of which is a requirement of entry. This is in an attempt to eliminate the damage caused by modern tactics of blocking, weaving and tapping (or as it used to be known, driving into one another). Do not however think that this makes for a gentle series. Racing is getting ever closer as drivers become confident that these undesirable tactics are removed from the sport, allowing competitors to trust one another to not take out the opposition. Some founder members remain at the club today. These include Evelyne Buanic, Stuart Laws who compete in Class B and the club's president, Trevor Ford.
The Kumho BMW's Today
2022 marked the 35th anniversary for the Kumho BMW Championship, and also the 25th Anniversary of successful sponsorship from Kumho Tires.
The championship is made up of four classes split by a power-to-weight ratio. There are also a number of strict regulations which all cars must adhere to. These can be viewed here.
The championship currently competes at many famous circuits in the UK, including Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Snetterton, Thruxton and Croft. The championship usually has a 14-race calendar, with 7 race weekends being double-headers (two races, one per day).
Steven Kane is a British racing driver who currently competes in the Blancpain Endurance Series and Avon Tyres British GT Championship for M-Sport Bentley driving a Bentley Continental GT3.
Gordon William Shedden is a Scottish auto racing driver, currently competing in the British Touring Car Championship for the Halfords Racing with Cataclean team. He has previously won the series on three occasions; in 2012, 2015 and 2016, driving for Honda/Team Dynamics each time. He also spent two seasons in the FIA WTCR, from 2018 to 2019, driving for the Audi Sport Leopard Lukoil Team.
The Welsh Sports and Saloon Car Championship is organised by the BARC and the Welsh Racing Drivers’ Association, the main venue of the championship being Pembrey. 2009 sees the championship travelling to Brands Hatch. The championship has also raced at Ty Croes in Anglesey, Donington Park, Mallory Park, Silverstone, Mondello Park, Lydden Hill, Thruxton and Oulton Park.

Andrew Jordan is a British auto racing driver, who has driven in the British Touring Car Championship. He was the 2013 British Touring Car Champion.

The 2010 Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain was the eighth season of the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain series. The series again featured on the same package as the British Touring Car Championship, and as such benefited from live coverage at each round on ITV4 in the United Kingdom.
The Protyre 2010 Formula Renault BARC season was the 16th Formula Renault BARC Championship. The season began at Brands Hatch on 18 April and ended on 17 October at Thruxton, after twelve rounds held in England. Making its debut in the series was the previous-specification Formula Renault UK car which ran alongside the existing BARC car in a one-class Championship.
The 2007 Elf Renault Clio Cup United Kingdom season began at Brands Hatch on 31 March and finished after 12 races over 10 events at Thruxton on 14 October. The Championship was won by Martin Byford driving for his own Z Speed Racing team, despite not winning a race.
The 2008 Elf Renault Clio Cup United Kingdom season began at Brands Hatch on 29 March and finished after 20 races over 10 events at the same circuit on 21 September. The Championship was won by Ben Winrow driving for Team Pyro.
The 2009 Elf Renault Clio Cup United Kingdom with Michelin season began at Brands Hatch on 4 April and finished after 20 races over 10 events at the same circuit on 4 October. The Championship was won by Phil Glew driving for Team Pyro.
David Newsham is a British auto racing driver and businessman. He is the managing director of Norscott Vending. He raced in the British Touring Car Championship from 2011 to 2017, but in 2016, he competed in the British Rallycross Championship, only entering two rounds of the BTCC in place of Kelvin Fletcher.
The Porsche Racing Drivers Association motor racing championship was started in 1991 by Jeff May. The 2-litre, front-engined Porsche 924 cars were augmented in 2010 by the 3.2 litre, mid-engined Boxster models with the opening Boxster championship being won by David Clark. The 2012 season saw the introduction of a production class for Boxsters to run alongside the existing fully converted race-spec Boxsters and the 924s. The Championship is organized by a committee and run under the British Racing and Sports Car Club.
Jack Goff is a British auto racing driver. He was the 2012 Renault Clio Cup United Kingdom champion. He made his debut in the British Touring Car Championship on 31 March 2013 at Brands Hatch, driving for RCIB Insurance Racing. The 2017 and 2018 British Touring Car Championship seasons saw Jack driving for Eurotech Racing in a Honda Civic Type R.
Jonas Gelžinis is a Lithuanian racing driver. J.Gelžinis won Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain Pro-Am1 class champion title in 2011. From 2012 he raced in Pro class and finished runner up in 2013. He is also a record ten-time winner of the Palanga 1000km Challenge. He was selected for FIA 2012 Young Driver Excellence Academy. Only 18 young talented drivers were selected from around the world. Moreover, Jonas was also selected for 2013 PORSCHE INTERNATIONAL CUP SCHOLARSHIP shootout. Together with Earl Bamber, Johan Kristoffersson and other top drivers from Porsche Carrera Cups. His younger brother Ignas Gelžinis is also racing driver.
Jake Hill is a British racing driver who is currently competing in the British Touring Car Championship in 2022 for Rokit MB Motorsport with West Surrey Racing BMW 330e M Sport. He has also driven for Team HARD, Rob Austin Racing, Motorbase PerformanceTrade Price Cars Racing, MB Motorsport with AmD Tuning, MB Motorsport with Motorbase Performance
Robert Babikan was a British racing driver. He was most notable for competing in the British GT Championship in 2000 and 2001, and racing in a single round of the European Le Mans Series in 2001. He won the Porsche Cup GB in 1996.
The 1978 British Formula Three season was the 28th season of the British Formula Three racing. There was once again two major championships contested throughout the year: the British Automobile Racing Club organised BP Super Visco British Formula 3 Championship, and the British Racing Drivers' Club backed Vandervell British Formula 3 Championship. This would be the final year with multiple British championship, with the BARC and BRDC unifying for the following season.
The 2000 Privilege Insurance British GT Championship was the eighth season of the British GT Championship, an auto racing series organised by the British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) and sponsored by Privilege. The races featured grand touring cars conforming to two categories of regulations known as GT and GTO, and awarded a driver championship in each category. The season began on 25 March 2000 and ended on 8 October 2000 after eleven events, eleven held in Great Britain with one race in Belgium. The series was joined by the BRDC Marcos Mantis Challenge Cup for a few rounds.
