Orlando is a city in, and the county seat of Orange County, Florida, United States. Part of Central Florida, it is the center of the Orlando metropolitan area, which had a population of 2,509,831 in 2017, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. It is the sixth-largest metropolitan area in the Southern United States and the third-largest metropolitan area in Florida behind Miami and Tampa Bay. Orlando had a city population of 307,573 in the 2020 census, making it the fourth-most populous city in Florida behind Jacksonville, Miami, and Tampa. It is the state's most populous inland city.
The Financial District of Lower Manhattan, also known as FiDi, is a neighborhood located on the southern tip of Manhattan in New York City. It is bounded by the West Side Highway on the west, Chambers Street and City Hall Park on the north, Brooklyn Bridge on the northeast, the East River to the southeast, and South Ferry and the Battery on the south.
Silver Lake is a residential and commercial neighborhood in the east-central region of Los Angeles, California originally home to a small community called Ivanhoe, in honor of the novel by Sir Walter Scott. In 1907, the Los Angeles Water Department built the Silver Lake Reservoir, named for LA Water Commissioner Herman Silver, giving the neighborhood its name. The area is now known for its architecturally significant homes, independently owned businesses, diverse restaurants, painted staircases, and creative environment.
Downtown Orlando is the historic core and central business district of Orlando, Florida, United States. It is bordered by Marks Street in the north, Mills Avenue in the east, Orange Blossom Trail in the west, and Kaley Avenue in the south. There are several distinct neighborhoods in downtown; "North Quarter" to the north, "Lake Eola Heights Historic District" just north of Lake Eola, "South Eola" contains Lake Eola Park and continues to the east and south of Lake Eola, "Thornton Park" in the east, "Parramore" in the west, "Lake Cherokee Historic District" to the south, and the "Central Business District" between Colonial Drive and Lake Lucerne in the center. In 2010, the estimated population of downtown was 18,731. The daytime population was estimated to be 65,000. The 5-mile radius population of downtown is 273,335.
Hyde Park is a neighborhood and historic district in Austin, Texas. Located in Central Austin, Hyde Park is defined by 38th Street to the south, 45th Street to the north, Duval Street to the east, and Guadalupe Street to the west. It is situated just north of the University of Texas and borders the neighborhoods of Hancock and North Loop.
Swan Lake is a historic district in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its borders consist of 15th Street to the North, Utica Street to the East, 21st Street to the South, and Peoria Avenue to the west. The District was developed in the early 20th century as a middle-class residential area with single-family homes, some duplexes and apartment buildings. It is still considered a highly regarded residential area with a high occupancy rate.
The Griffin Park Historic District is a U.S. historic district located in Orlando, Florida. The district is bounded by Avondale and South Division Avenues, Carter Street, and I-4. It contains 26 historic buildings.
The Lake Eola Heights Historic District is a U.S. historic district located in the eastern part of Downtown Orlando, Florida. The district is roughly bounded by Hillcrest Street, North Hyer Avenue, Ridgewood Street and North Magnolia Avenue. It contains 487 historic buildings.
Hagerstown City Park is a public urban park just southwest of the central business district of Hagerstown, Maryland, United States. The park is located at the junction of Virginia Avenue, Key Street, Walnut Street, Prospect Street, and Memorial Boulevard.
The Dublin Village Historic District encompasses the historic village center of Dublin, New Hampshire. Dublin's center developed in the 19th century after its original village center was abandoned due to harsher winter conditions nearer Dublin Pond. The district extends along Main Street from its junction with Lake Street in the west to the junction with Old County Road in the east, and includes sections of Old Common Road, Harrisville Road, and Church Street. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
The Holden–Parramore Historic District is a U.S. historic district located in Parramore neighborhood of west-central Orlando, Florida. The district is roughly bounded by W. Church Street, S. Division Avenue, Long Street, McFall Avenue, and S. Parramore Avenue.
The Exeter Waterfront Commercial Historic District encompasses the historic commercial and residential waterfront areas of Exeter, New Hampshire. The district extends along the north side of Water Street, roughly from Main Street to Front Street, and then along both sides of Water and High streets to the latter's junction with Portsmouth Street. It also includes properties on Chestnut Street on the north side of the Squamscott River. This area was where the early settlement of Exeter took place in 1638, and soon developed as a shipbuilding center. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It was enlarged in 1986 to include the mill complex of the Exeter Manufacturing Company on Chestnut Street.
The Lake Adair–Lake Concord Historic District is a U.S. historic district located to the east of Spring Lake including Overbrook Park and to the west of the Lake Adair and Lake Concord in Orlando, Florida. The district located in College Park is roughly bounded by Golfview Street, Edgewater Court, Alameda Street, and Peachtree Road.
The Rosemere Historic District is a U.S. historic district located to the west of Lake Formosa in Orlando, Florida. The district is roughly bounded by E. Harvard Street, N. Orange Avenue, Cornell Avenue, and E. Vanderbilt Street.
Forest–Ivanhoe Residential Historic District is a national historic district located at Hammond, Lake County, Indiana. The district encompasses 25 contributing buildings in an exclusively residential section of Hammond. The development began before 1923, the year its first house was constructed, on what had been "Eggebrech's Second Tract" that was sold around 1919. The builder Karl Hohenberger obtained the land and then saw his real estate development financed in part by Al Capone, who enabled him to build the first house according to his specifications that included steel skeleton to support the massive weight of a Spanish barrel-tile roof and concrete floors between the house's stories. This house also features the inclusion of steel plates in its outside walls in order to render it bullet-proof to the standards of the day. Capone and his organization used this house as a collection point for the proceeds of their bootlegged liquor, prostitution and other rackets that went on unchecked in Hammond until the early 1930s. The house was employed as a detention point for those customers of Capone who were unable to pay him timely and has bulletholes on its outside and inside to attest to the ruthlessness of that notorious criminal organization. Numerous spent .22 caliber bullets have turned up in the back patio from this era. The house was seized under a writ of judicial forfeiture in 1932 by Judge Henry Clay Cleveland, whose wife Florence Hammond was the granddaughter of George Hammond, city founder and proprietor of its meat-packing operation. It developed between about 1925 and 1952, and includes notable example of Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, Spanish Colonial and English Cottage style residential architecture. Most of the residences have attached garages.
The Battery Street Historic District encompasses one of the oldest developed areas of Burlington, Vermont. With a history dating to 1790, this area, south of downtown Burlington and initially bounded roughly by Main, St. Paul, and Maple Streets, and Lake Champlain, this area includes a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial uses, with architecture spanning from its early period to the 20th century, including one of the city's oldest houses. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, and has twice been enlarged, extending west to South Union Street.
The Buell Street–Bradley Street Historic District encompasses a small residential area just to the east of downtown Burlington, Vermont. Roughly bounded by Pearl, South Willard, and College Streets, and Orchard Terrace, the area was developed between about 1890 and 1910, representing one of the last significant neighborhoods built up near the downtown area. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
The North Street Historic District encompasses the traditional commercial area serving the residential Old North End neighborhood of Burlington, Vermont. It extends for ten blocks along North Street between North Avenue and North Winooski Avenue, and has served as the neighborhood's commercial center for over 150 years. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
The South Union Street Historic District encompasses a historic 19th-century residential neighborhood for the upper middle class in Burlington, Vermont. Developed along South Union Street between Main and Howard Streets, South Union grew between about 1835 and 1938 as a popular area for well-to-do yet middle class Burlingtonians, affording views of Lake Champlain to the west. The architecturally diverse district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
