The Lake Toba Authority Implementing Agency (Indonesian: Badan Pelaksana Otorita Danau Toba; BPODT) is a public service government agency established by the government of Indonesia to manage the development of Lake Toba as a premier tourism destination.
The agency's formation was based on Presidential Regulation No. 49 of 2016. [1] Tasked with improving infrastructure, tourism, and environmental conservation in the area, the BPODT operates under the Ministry of Tourism and coordinates closely with the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs. [2] It is accountable to the president of Indonesia. [2]
The BPODT has the dual mission of: 1) Directly managing development within the 500-hectare [1] designated Lake Toba Tourism Authority Zone through planning, building, and regulating tourism activities, [3] and 2) Coordinating and facilitating tourism-related efforts across the broader Lake Toba Coordinative Zone, [3] which encompasses eight regencies in North Sumatra in total: Toba, Simalungun, Samosir, Humbang Hasundutan, North Tapanuli, Dairi, Karo, and Pakpak Bharat; [4] general governance and local issues remain under the control of regional and regency governments. To turn Lake Toba into a top tourism spot, the agency requires a budget of 21 trillion Rupiah (US$1.3 billion). [5]
The BPODT's exercise of authority has faced significant criticism by indigenous communities who raised concerns about being excluded from the development process, viewing the agency's projects as unilateral decisions not taking into account their perspectives or traditions. Lands previously recognized as belonging to indigenous communities have been repurposed under the agency's authority, using Presidential Regulation No. 49 of 2016 as legal basis, leading to land ownership disputes. Batam, officially the City of Batam, is the largest city in the Indonesian province of Riau Islands. The city administrative area covers three main islands of Batam, Rempang, and Galang, as well as Bulang to the west and several smaller islands. Tana Toraja is a landlocked regency (kabupaten) of South Sulawesi Province of Indonesia, and home to the Toraja ethnic group. It covers an area of 2,054.30 km2 (793.17 sq mi) and had a population of 221,081 at the 2010 census and 280,794 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 291,046, but the official figure for mid 2023 was a much reduced total of 257,901.

Bakamla is a non-ministerial government institution which reports directly to the President through Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs. Bakamla's duty is to conduct security and safety patrols in the territorial waters of Indonesia and the jurisdiction of Indonesia. Previously Bakamla was a non-structural institution called the Coordinating Agency for the Security of the Republic of Indonesia. The agency is not part or associated with the Indonesian National Armed Forces, although its top-ranking leadership are handpicked from the Indonesian Navy. Bakamla and the Indonesian Navy, however, often conduct exercises and joint-operation together. While during search-and-rescue operations, Bakamla also conduct joint-operations with the National Search and Rescue Agency.

MV Sinar Bangun sank on 18 June 2018 in Lake Toba, North Sumatra, Indonesia, during its trip from Simanindo Harbour in Samosir Island to Tiga Ras Harbour in Simalungun Regency. The ferry was carrying 188 passengers and crew. After the sinking, authorities immediately deployed search and rescue personnel to the area. Twenty-one survivors were rescued, three bodies were found and 164 people were listed as missing and presumed dead.

The Borobudur Authority Agency is the government agency responsible for managing and promoting tourism, cultural heritage, and sustainable economic development around the UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site Borobudur Temple and its surrounding regions. Formed in 2018, It is the realization of Presidential Regulation No. 46 of 2017 on the Establishment of the Borobudur Tourism Authority Agency. Besides overseeing the Borobudur Temple, several regions including Magelang, Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Salatiga, and Semarang, are under the agency's authority for matters relating to tourism. The agency operates under the Ministry of Tourism and is directly accountable to the President of Indonesia.
The National Border Management Agency is an Indonesian government agency established in 2010 under Presidential Regulation No. 12, in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 43 of 2008 concerning State Territory. It is the government agency in Indonesia in charge of overseeing and coordinating border management efforts, developing policies that protect the country's vast borders, both land and maritime. However, the BNPP's authority is limited to budget planning, policy coordination, and evaluation duties rather than direct enforcement. Directly accountable to the president of Indonesia, its operational expenses are entirely covered by the state budget.
