Toba Regency is a landlocked regency in North Sumatra. Its seat is Balige. The regency covers an area of 2,021.8 square kilometres; it had a population of 173,129 at the 2010 census [2] and 206,199 at the 2020 Census; [3] the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 212,133. [1] It includes the eastern shore of the vast inland Lake Toba. The regency was formerly known as Toba Samosir Regency, until its name was officially shortened in 2020. [4]

The regency is divided administratively into sixteen districts (kecamatan), tabulated below with their areas and their populations at the 2010 Census [2] and the 2020 Census, [3] together with the official estimates as at mid 2022. Orchid Paradise

Two scientists explored the Eden Park tourist forest in Sionggang village in Toba Regency for four years and have successfully identified almost 200 new species of forest orchids. The area is an orchid paradise, in which thousands of other orchid species can be found. [5]

Sigura-Gura waterfall

Sigura-gura waterfall, which is the highest waterfall in Indonesia at 250 metres (820 ft) tall, is located 250 kilometres (160 mi) from Medan or a 2 to 3 hour long drive. Below the waterfall, one can do White water rafting. [6]

Its seat is the town of Dolok Sanggul. North Labuhanbatu Regency is a regency of North Sumatra, Indonesia, created on 24 June 2008 by being carved out of the existing Labuhanbatu Regency, which in 2000 covered an area of 9,322.5 square kilometres and had a population of 840,382 according to the 2000 census. 60.99% of the regency is forested. The new North Labuhanbatu Regency covers 3,545.8 square kilometres and had a population of 331,660 at the 2010 Census, rising to 381,994 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 390,954.

Mandailing Natal, abbreviated as Madina, is a regency in North Sumatra Province of Indonesia. It covers an area of 6,620.70 square kilometres and it had a population of 403,894 people at the 2010 census and 472,886 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 484,874. The capital lies at Panyabungan. The Regency was formerly a part of South Tapanuli Regency until it was created as a separate regency on 23 November 1998. It is the southernmost regency in North Sumatra, and the largest regency by land area in the province, with Langkat Regency second to it.

Samosir Regency is an inland regency in North Sumatra. It was creatred on 18 December 2003 by splitting away the western districts of the former Toba Samosir Regency. The regency covers a land area of 1,444.25 square kilometres, including the whole of Samosir Island in the inland sea of Lake Toba. It had a population of 119,653 at the 2010 census and 136,441 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate for mid 2022 was 139,337. Its seat is the town of Pangururan.

Simalungun Regency is a regency in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Its seat was formerly at Pematangsiantar, but this city was in 1986 separated from the Regency and made into an independent city (kota), although it remains geographically surrounded by the regency, whose new administrative seat is at Raya. The regency now covers an area of 4,372.5 square kilometres, and at the 2010 census it had a population of 817,720; at the 2020 Census this had risen to 990,246, of whom 497,314 were male and 492,932 were female; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 1,021,615.

It now covers 7,502.58 km2 and had a population of 287,606 at the 2010 census and 322,919 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 327,820. The principal town lies at Masamba.
