Toba Regency is a landlocked regency in North Sumatra. Its seat is Balige. The regency covers an area of 2,021.8 square kilometres; it had a population of 173,129 at the 2010 census [2] and 206,199 at the 2020 Census; [3] the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 212,133. [1] It includes the eastern shore of the vast inland Lake Toba. The regency was formerly known as Toba Samosir Regency, until its name was officially shortened in 2020. [4]
The regency is divided administratively into sixteen districts (kecamatan), tabulated below with their areas and their populations at the 2010 Census [2] and the 2020 Census, [3] together with the official estimates as at mid 2022. Two scientists explored the Eden Park tourist forest in Sionggang village in Toba Regency for four years and have successfully identified almost 200 new species of forest orchids. The area is an orchid paradise, in which thousands of other orchid species can be found. [5]
Sigura-gura waterfall, which is the highest waterfall in Indonesia at 250 metres (820 ft) tall, is located 250 kilometres (160 mi) from Medan or a 2 to 3 hour long drive. Below the waterfall, one can do White water rafting. [6]
Banyumas Regency is a regency in the southwestern part of Central Java province in Indonesia. Its capital is the town of Purwokerto, but that town no longer has a central administration and is split over four of the districts within the Regency, with a combined population of 231,765 as of mid-2022. The Regency covers an area of 1,327.59 km2, and had a population of 1,554,527 at the 2010 Census and 1,776,918 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate of the population as of mid-2022 was 1,806,814.
Jombang Regency is a regency of East Java, Indonesia, situated to the southwest of Surabaya. The capital of the regency is the town of Jombang. The regency has an area of 1,159.48 km2 and population of 1,202,407 at the 2010 census and 1,318,062 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 1,335,972. It became a regency in 1910. It was the birthplace of Abdurrahman Wahid, the 4th president of Indonesia.
Ende Regency is a regency on the island of Flores, within East Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia. The capital is the town of Ende. The regency covers an area of 2,085.19 km2, and it had a population of 260,605 at the 2010 Census and 270,763 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 273,553. It is bordered to the west by Nagekeo Regency and to the east by Sikka Regency.
Karo Regency is a landlocked regency of North Sumatra, Indonesia, situated in the Barisan Mountains. The regency covers an area of 2,127.25 square kilometres (821.34 sq mi) and according to the 2010 census it had a population of 350,479, increasing to 404,998 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 414,429. 60.99% of the regency is forested. Its regency seat is Kabanjahe. The Batak Karo language is spoken in the regency, as well as the Indonesian language. It borders Southeast Aceh Regency in Aceh to the west, Deli Serdang Regency and Langkat Regency to the north, Dairi Regency and Toba Samosir Regency to the south, and Deli Serdang Regency and Simalungun Regency to the east.
Magetan Regency is a regency (kabupaten) of East Java Province, Indonesia. It is an inland regency, and lies in the west of the province, adjoining Central Java Province. It covered an area of 688.84 km2 and had a population of 620,442 at the 2010 Census and 670,812 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid-2022 was 678,343. The administrative headquarters is in the town of Magetan.
Pamekasan Regency is a regency (kabupaten) of the province of East Java, Indonesia. It is located on Madura Island approximately 120 kilometres (75 mi) east of Surabaya, the provincial capital. The regency covers an area of 792.30 square kilometres (305.91 sq mi), and at the 2010 census it had a population of 795,918 ; at the 2020 census the total was 850,057 and the official estimate as of mid-2022 was 857,818 – comprising 420,612 males and 437,206 females. Sampang Regency is a regency of East Java province, Indonesia. It is situated on Madura Island, bordering on Pamekasan Regency to the east, the Java Sea to the north, Bangkalan Regency to the west, and Madura Strait to the south. It covers an area of 1,233.3 km2, and had a population of at the 2010 census 877,772 and at the 2020 census 969,694; the official estimate as of mid-2022 was 984,162 - comprising 488,673 males and 495,489 females. The administrative centre is the port of Sampang, on the south coast of Madura.

Semarang is a landlocked regency in Central Java province in Indonesia. It covers an area of 1,019.27 km2 and had a population of 930,727 at the 2010 census and 1,053,094 at the 2020 census; the official estimate at mid 2022 was 1,068,492, comprising 532,529 males and 535,964 females. These figures exclude the independent cities of Semarang and Salatiga, which are administratively separate from the regency. Dairi Regency is an inland regency on the west shore of Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Indonesia. The regency covers an area of 1,927.77 square kilometres (744.32 sq mi) and it had a population of 269,848 people at the 2010 Census and 308,764 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 315,460. Its seat is at the town of Sidikalang.
Humbang Hasundutan Regency is a landlocked regency in North Sumatra province of Indonesia. In the east of the regency, Baktiraja District stretches along a short part of the southern shore of Lake Toba in North Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 2,502.71 km2, and it had a population of 171,650 at the 2010 census</ref> and 197,751 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 202,299. Its seat is the town of Dolok Sanggul. To the north is Samosir Regency and Pakpak Bharat Regency, to the east is North Tapanuli Regency, and to the west and south is Central Tapanuli Regency, and beyond the latter the Indian Ocean.
North Labuhanbatu Regency is a regency of North Sumatra, Indonesia, created on 24 June 2008 by being carved out of the existing Labuhanbatu Regency, which in 2000 covered an area of 9,322.5 square kilometres and had a population of 840,382 according to the 2000 census. 60.99% of the regency is forested. The new North Labuhanbatu Regency covers 3,545.8 square kilometres and had a population of 331,660 at the 2010 Census, rising to 381,994 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 390,954.
Mandailing Natal, abbreviated as Madina, is a regency in North Sumatra Province of Indonesia. It covers an area of 6,620.70 square kilometres and it had a population of 403,894 people at the 2010 census and 472,886 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 484,874. The capital lies at Panyabungan. The Regency was formerly a part of South Tapanuli Regency until it was created as a separate regency on 23 November 1998. It is the southernmost regency in North Sumatra, and the largest regency by land area in the province, with Langkat Regency second to it.
Samosir Regency is an inland regency in North Sumatra. It was creatred on 18 December 2003 by splitting away the western districts of the former Toba Samosir Regency. The regency covers a land area of 1,444.25 square kilometres, including the whole of Samosir Island in the inland sea of Lake Toba. It had a population of 119,653 at the 2010 census and 136,441 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate for mid 2022 was 139,337. Its seat is the town of Pangururan.
Simalungun Regency is a regency in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Its seat was formerly at Pematangsiantar, but this city was in 1986 separated from the Regency and made into an independent city (kota), although it remains geographically surrounded by the regency, whose new administrative seat is at Raya. The regency now covers an area of 4,372.5 square kilometres, and at the 2010 census it had a population of 817,720; at the 2020 Census this had risen to 990,246, of whom 497,314 were male and 492,932 were female; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 1,021,615.
North Tapanuli Regency is a landlocked regency in North Sumatra province, Sumatra, Indonesia. Its capital is Tarutung. The regency covers an area of 3,793.71 square kilometres and it had a population of 278,897 at the 2010 Census and 312,758 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 318,424.
North Luwu Regency is a regency of South Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. It was created on 20 April 1999 by separation of the province's northern districts formerly within the Luwu Regency; however on 25 February 2003 it was reduced when the easternmost of these same districts were split off to create the East Luwu Regency. It now covers 7,502.58 km2 and had a population of 287,606 at the 2010 census and 322,919 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 327,820. The principal town lies at Masamba.
