Pakpak Bharat Regency is a landlocked regency in North Sumatra Province of Indonesia. It was created on 25 February 2003 from the southern districts of Dairi Regency. The regency covers an area of 1,365.6 square kilometres and it had a population of 40,481 at the 2010 census [3] and 52,351 at the 2020 Census; [4] the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 55,172 - comprising 27,890 males and 27,282 females. [1] Its seat is the town of Salak. It is the least populated regency in North Sumatra; its population is roughly the same as Greenland, the island with the lowest population density in the world.
The regency is divided administratively into eight districts (kecamatan), tabulated below with their reas and their populations at the 2010 Census [3] and the 2020 Census, [4] together with the official estimates as at mid 2023. [1] The table also includes the locations of the district administrative centres, the number of administrative villages (all classed as rural desa) in each district and its post code.

The indigenous peoples that inhabit Pakpak Bharat Regency in general are the Pakpak people. Besides Pakpak, other Batak ethnicities include Toba and Karo; there are also other ethnic groups such as Malay and Nias and so on.
Most of the territory of Pakpak Bharat Regency is the ulayat land of the Pakpak people Suak Simsim, so the majority of Pakpak clan in Pakpak Bharat Regency are from Suak Simsim. However, there are also other Pakpak clans from the other four phylums.

Karo Regency is a landlocked regency of North Sumatra Province of Indonesia, situated in the Barisan Mountains. The regency, which was established on 7 November 1956, covers an area of 2,127.25 square kilometres (821.34 sq mi) and according to the 2010 census it had a population of 350,479, increasing to 404,998 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid-2023 was 420,799, comprising 208,600 males and 212,200 females. 60.99% of the regency is forested. Its regency seat is the town of Kabanjahe. The Batak Karo language is spoken in the regency, as well as the Indonesian language. It borders Southeast Aceh Regency in Aceh to the west, Deli Serdang Regency and Langkat Regency to the north, Dairi Regency and Toba Samosir Regency to the south, and Deli Serdang Regency and Simalungun Regency to the east.
Padang Pariaman Regency is a regency (kabupaten) of West Sumatra, Indonesia. Rejang Lebong is a regency of Bengkulu Province, Indonesia, on the island of Sumatra. This regency originally included a much larger part of the inland district of the province, but on 25 February 2003 it was divided in three, with districts in the northwest being split off to form a separate Lebong Regency, and districts in the south being similarly split off to form a new Kepahiang Regency. The residual Rejang Lebong Regency now covers 1,550.28 km² and had a population of 246,787 at the 2010 Census and 276,645 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 281,281. The Rejangese people are the most numerous ethnic group in Bengkulu Province, and inhabit the western half of the Regency, while the Lembak people inhabit the eastern half.
Aceh Tamiang Regency is a regency in the east of Aceh province of Indonesia, bordering on North Sumatra Province to the east. It is located on the island of Sumatra, and was formed on 10 April 2002 from what were previously the southeastern districts of East Aceh Regency. The regency covers an area of 1,957.02 square kilometres and had a population of 251,914 people at the 2010 census, 277,766 at the 2015 census and 294,356 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 305,217 - comprising 154,724 males and 150,493 females. The seat of the regency government is at the town of Karang Baru.
Southwest Aceh Regency is a regency in the Aceh Province of Indonesia. The regency was created on 10 April 2002 from the northwestern districts of South Aceh Regency. It is located on the west side of the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 1,882.99 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census had a population of 126,036; this rose to 140,366 at the 2015 Census, and to 150,775 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 156,990. The seat of the regency government is the town of Blangpidie.
Kisaran is a large town in the North Sumatra province of Indonesia. Kisaran is the administrative capital of Asahan Regency. Kisaran does not now have the status of an independent city, but is composed of two administrative districts (kecamatan) - West Kisaran District and East Kisaran District. Kisaran is situated on the Trans-Sumatra Highway, and is also located in the path of trains in northern Sumatra.
Dairi Regency is an inland regency on the western shore of Lake Toba in North Sumatra Province of Indonesia. The regency was created on 23 September 1964 from what were previously the north-western districts of North Tapanuli Regency; however the southern districts of this new regency were in turn split off on 25 February 2003 to form the new Pakpak Bharat Regency. The reduced regency covers an area of 1,927.80 square kilometres (744.33 sq mi) and it had a population of 269,848 people at the 2010 Census and 308,764 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 324,747 - comprising 162,928 males and 161,819 females. Its administrative seat is at the town of Sidikalang.
Humbang Hasundutan Regency is a landlocked regency in North Sumatra province of Indonesia. In the east of the regency, Baktiraja District stretches along a short part of the southern shore of Lake Toba in North Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 2,502.71 km2, and it had a population of 171,650 at the 2010 census and 197,751 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 204,700. Its seat is the town of Dolok Sanggul. To the north is Samosir Regency and Pakpak Bharat Regency, to the east is North Tapanuli Regency, and to the west and south is Central Tapanuli Regency, and beyond the latter the Indian Ocean.

An original regency of the province, it had an area of 9,703 km2 as at early 2008, prior to the separation out of its southern and its north-western districts respectively to create the new South Labuhanbatu and North Labuhanbatu Regencies on 21 July 2008.
South Labuhanbatu Regency is a regency of North Sumatra Province of Indonesia, created on 21 July 2008 by being carved out of the southern districts of the existing Labuhanbatu Regency. The new South Labuhanbatu Regency covers an area of 3,596 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census it had a population of 277,673, which rose to 314,094 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 330,797. Its administrative headquarters are at the town of Kotapinang.

Its administrative seat is the town of Sibuhuan. Padang Lawas Regency was created on 17 July 2007 from southeastern parts of the South Tapanuli Regency. It is the only regency in this province that borders two other provinces, West Sumatra and Riau.

North Tapanuli Regency is a landlocked regency in North Sumatra province, Sumatra, Indonesia. Its capital is Tarutung. The regency covers an area of 3,793.71 square kilometres and it had a population of 278,897 at the 2010 Census and 312,758 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2023 was 323,102.
Meranti Islands is an archipelago forming a regency (kabupaten) of Riau Province and lies off the eastern coast of the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It was created on 19 December 2008 by the separating of this archipelago from the mainland regency of Bengkalis. The regency comprises the islands of Tebing Tinggi, Rangsang, Padang, and Merbau, together with minor offshore islands, but does not include Bengkalis Island which is geographically part of the archipelago but remains within Bengkalis Regency. The principal town is Selat Panjang on Tebing Tinggi Island. The regency covers an area of 3,623.93 km2 and had a population of 176,290 at the 2010 Census and 206,116 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2022 was 213,532.
Sukamara Regency is one of the thirteen regencies which comprise the Central Kalimantan Province on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia. It was created on 10 April 2002 from the former southwest part of West Kotawaringin Regency. The town of Sukamara is the capital of Sukamara Regency, which covers an area of 3,827 km2. Pesawaran Regency is a regency (kabupaten) of Lampung Province, Sumatra, Indonesia. The regency seat is the town of Gedong Tataan. This regency was formerly part of South Lampung Regency from which it was separated on 17 July 2007.
Salang is a district of the Simeulue Regency on Simeulue island in the Indonesian province of Aceh. At the 2010 Census it had a total population of 7,625 people, which by mid 2023 had increased to 9,222.
