Central Tapanuli Regency (Tapanuli Tengah in Indonesia) is a regency in North Sumatra province, Sumatra, Indonesia. The seat of the regency government is at Pandan. The regency covers an area of 2,194.98 km2 and consists of a long extent of land along the western coast of North Sumatra, together with offshore islands of which the largest is Mursala Island; it had a population of 311,232 at the 2010 census [2] and 365,177 at the 2020 Census; [3] the official estimate as at mid-2023 was 386,895 (comprising 195,086 males and 191,809 females). [1] The regency surrounds the landward side of the city of Sibolga, which is administratively separate from the regency.
The regency is divided into twenty districts (kecamatan), tabulated below with their areas and their populations at the 2010 Census [2] and the 2020 Census, [3] together with the official estimates as of mid-2023. [1] The table also includes the locations of the district administrative centres, the number of administrative villages in each district (totaling 160 rural desa and 55 urban kelurahan), and its postcode.

Central Tapanuli's beaches are ideal for surfing, although they are not as well known as those of Nias Island. The regency has 30 offshore islands; one of the biggest is Mursala Island with 8,000 hectares (1 hour by motorboat from Sibolga), which has a waterfall that directly drops to the sea; around 100 metres from the waterfall the water still tastes plain and the corals are unique and beautiful. [4] In 1933, the first King Kong film has taken pictures here. [5]
Sibolga is a city and a port located in the natural harbour of Sibolga Bay on the west coast of North Sumatra province, in Indonesia.
Simeulue Regency is a regency in the Aceh special region of Indonesia. It occupies the whole island of Simeulue, 150 km off the west coast of Sumatra, with an area of 1,838.10 square kilometres. It had a population of 80,674 at the 2010 census and 92,865 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 97,118.
Donggala Regency is a regency in the Central Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. It lies between 0° 30" north and 2°20" south latitude, and between 119° 45°" and 121° 45" east longitude, and covers a land area of 5,275.69 km2. It had a population of 277,236 at the 2010 Census and 300,436 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 305,890. The administrative capital of Donggala Regency is the town of Banawa, located a 30-minute drive (34 km) northwest from the city of Palu, the capital of the province.
Padangsidimpuan is a city in North Sumatra, Indonesia, and the former capital of South Tapanuli Regency, which surrounds the city. It has an area of 159.28 km2 and a population of 178,818 people at the 2000 census, which rose to 191,554 in the 2010 census and 225,105 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 236,217 - comprising 119,228 males and 116,989 females.
West Pasaman Regency is a regency (kabupaten) of West Sumatra, Indonesia. The regency seat is at the town of Painan, in IV Jurai District.
South Aceh Regency is a regency in the Aceh province of Indonesia. It is located on the west coast of the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 4,173.82 square kilometres and had a population of 202,251 at the 2010 Census, 224,588 in 2015 and 232,414 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 239,475 . Its population density was thus 48.5 inhabitants/km2 at the 2010 census, 53.8 inhabitants/km2 in 2015, 55.7 inhabitants/km2 at the 2020 census, and 57.4 inhabitants/km2 in mid 2023. The seat of the regency government is at Tapaktuan.
Aceh Singkil Regency is a regency in the Aceh province of Indonesia. It is situated largely on the island of Sumatra, but also includes the offshore Banyak Islands, the largest of which is Tuangku, with the principal town of Alaban. The regency was created on 20 April 1999 from the former southern districts of South Aceh Regency. Until 2007 it included the large town of Subulussalam, but on 2 January of that year that town was split off to become an autonomous city. The seat of the Aceh Singkil Regency government is at the port of Singkil on the Sumatra coast. The Regency now covers an area of 1,857.88 km2, and had a population of 102,509 at the 2010 Census, rising to 114,326 at the 2015 Census and to 126,514 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 135,435.
Central Bengkulu Regency is a regency of Bengkulu Province, Indonesia. It is located on the west coast of the island of Sumatra, and lies immediately to the north and the east of the adjacent city of Bengkulu. It was formed on 24 June 2008 by being split away from the neighbouring North Bengkulu Regency. It covers an area of 1,223.94 km2 and had a population of 98,333 at the 2010 census and 116,706 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 119,814. the administrative centre is at the town of Karang Tinggi.
Humbang Hasundutan Regency is a landlocked regency in North Sumatra province of Indonesia. In the east of the regency, Baktiraja District stretches along a short part of the southern shore of Lake Toba in North Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 2,502.71 km2, and it had a population of 171,650 at the 2010 census and 197,751 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 204,700. Its seat is the town of Dolok Sanggul. To the north is Samosir Regency and Pakpak Bharat Regency, to the east is North Tapanuli Regency, and to the west and south is Central Tapanuli Regency, and beyond the latter the Indian Ocean.
Langkat Regency is the northernmost regency of North Sumatra Province in Indonesia. Its administrative centre is the town of Stabat. It has a land area of 6,263.29 km2 and its population was 967,535 at the 2010 Census and 1,030,202 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 1,066,711 - comprising 538,822 males and 527,889 females.
Mandailing Natal, abbreviated as Madina, is a regency in North Sumatra Province of Indonesia. It covers an area of 6,620.70 square kilometres and it had a population of 403,894 people at the 2010 census and 472,886 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 496,975. The capital lies at Panyabungan. The Regency was formerly a part of South Tapanuli Regency until it was created as a separate regency on 23 November 1998. It is the southernmost regency in North Sumatra, and the largest regency by land area in the province, with Langkat Regency second to it.
Padang Lawas is a regency in the North Sumatra province of Indonesia. It covers an area of 3,912.18 km2, and had a population of 226,807 at the 2010 Census and 261,011 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2023 was 275,648 - comprising 138,506 males and 137,142 females. Its administrative seat is the town of Sibuhuan. Padang Lawas Regency was created on 17 July 2007 from southeastern parts of the South Tapanuli Regency. It is the only regency in this province that borders two other provinces, West Sumatra and Riau.
South Tapanuli is a regency in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Its seat is the town of Sipirok. This regency was originally very large and contained thousands of towns and villages, including the city of Padang Sidempuan. The areas that have separated from South Tapanuli Regency are the new regencies of Mandailing Natal, Padang Lawas Utara, and Padang Lawas, all lying to the south-east of the residual South Tapanuli Regency, plus the city (kota) of Padang Sidempuan. After the division, the regency seat moved from Padang Sidempuan to Sipirok.
North Tapanuli Regency is a landlocked regency in North Sumatra province, Sumatra, Indonesia. Its capital is Tarutung. The regency covers an area of 3,793.71 square kilometres and it had a population of 278,897 at the 2010 Census and 312,758 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as of mid-2023 was 323,102.
Toba Regency is a landlocked regency in North Sumatra. Its seat is Balige. The regency covers an area of 2,021.8 square kilometres; it had a population of 173,129 at the 2010 census and 206,199 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 213,850. Although landlocked, the regency includes the eastern shore of the vast inland Lake Toba.

Tanggamus Regency is a regency (kabupaten) of Lampung Province, Sumatra, Indonesia. It has an area of 4,654.96 km² and had a population of 534,595 at the 2010 Census and 640,275 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 652,898. The regency seat is the town of Kota Agung Pusat. The regency was created on 21 March 1997, but districts in its eastern part were split away on 29 October 2008 to form a new Pringsewu Regency. It lies in the southwest of the province, and surrounds Semangka Bay on its west, north and east coasts.
Central Buton Regency is a new regency of Southeast Sulawesi established by separation from Buton Regency under Act No.15 of 2014, dated 23 July 2014. It covers an area of 837.16 km2 comprising the southern parts of Muna Island and Kabaena Island, together with several small offshore islands adjacent to the two main islands, with no territory located on Buton Island. It had a population of 86,112 at the 2010 Census and 114,773 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 118,904. The administrative centre lies at Labungkari in Lakudo District.
