Lantau North Country Park (Chinese :北大嶼郊野公園) is one of two rural parks on Lantau Island, Hong Kong and is located on the north side of the island. The 22-square-kilometre (8.5 sq mi) park was designated in 1978.

Lantau North Country Park was designated on 18 August 1978. [1]

An extension to the park, called Lantau North (Extension) Country Park, was conceived in 1993. In 1999, the government announced an expansion of the country park area on Lantau Island. [2] The extension was officially designated on 7 November 2008. [1]

The area was once an important defence stronghold against pirates and foreign military during the Ming and the Qing dynasties.

Ngong Ping 360 is a bicable gondola lift on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. Intended to improve tourism to the area, the aerial lift was previously known as Tung Chung Cable Car Project before acquiring the Ngong Ping 360 brand in April 2005. It consists of the Ngong Ping Cable Car, formerly known as the Ngong Ping 360 Skyrail, and the Ngong Ping Village, a retail and entertainment centre adjacent to the cable car's upper station. Ngong Ping 360 connects Tung Chung, on the north coast of Lantau and itself linked to central Hong Kong by the Tung Chung line, with the Ngong Ping area in the hills above. This is home to the Po Lin Monastery and the Tian Tan Buddha, both already significant tourist attractions in their own right. Before Ngong Ping 360's opening, the only access was via a mountain road and bus service.

Lantau Peak or Fung Wong Shan is a mountain in Lantau South Country Park, Lantau Island, Hong Kong. It is the second highest peak in Hong Kong and the highest point on Lantau Island, with a height of 934 metres (3,064 ft) above the Hong Kong Principal Datum, or around 933 metres (3,061 ft) above mean sea level.

Sunset Peak or Tai Tung Shan is the third-highest peak in Hong Kong and the second-highest on the island of Lantau. It is situated within the Lantau South Country Park and the Lantau North Country Park and stands at a height of 869 metres (2,851 ft) above the Hong Kong Principal Datum, or 868 metres (2,848 ft) above mean sea level. The second-highest of the territory and the highest on the island, the Lantau Peak, is located to its west.

North Lantau Highway is an expressway forming part of Hong Kong's Route 8, linking Hong Kong International Airport and Lantau Island with the rest of the territory. The road has three lanes in each direction for its entire length with full-width hard shoulders for emergencies and breakdowns. The speed limit is 110 kilometres per hour (68 mph) for most of its length, the highest of any road in Hong Kong.

Shek Pik Reservoir is a reservoir in Shek Pik on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. Built between 1957 and 1963, it has a storage capacity of 24 million cubic metres and is the third largest reservoir in Hong Kong after High Island Reservoir and Plover Cove Reservoir.

Sha Lo Wan is a bay in the northwest Lantau Island, Hong Kong. The bay faces north to Hong Kong International Airport. The area is occupied by indigenous inhabitants. There is no vehicular access to the area and thus their communication is on foot or by ferry. Because of their inconvenient access to urban areas, villages in the area have suffered from depopulation. Only older generations live in these villages.

Fan Lau Fort is a former military fortification located on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. Named after the eponymous peninsula it is situated on, it was built in 1729 during the reign of the Yongzheng Emperor, a hundred and twelve years before the British took possession of Hong Kong. Abandoned in 1898, it became a declared monument of Hong Kong in 1981.

Fan Lau is a peninsula and area in the southwest tip of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. It is also the southwest end the territory of Hong Kong. The very end of the tip is Fan Lau Kok (分流角). The peninsula separates water into Fan Lau Tung Wan in the east, and Fan Lau Sai Wan and Fan Lau Miu Wan in the west.
