Lawrie Lee Hooper is a Welsh-born Manx politician who is the leader of Liberal Vannin Party and current Minister for the Department of Enterprise. He represented Ramsey in the House of Keys from 2016. [1]
Hooper was born in Cardiff,Wales. He studied at Ramsey Grammar School and Keele University.
He trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers on the Isle of Man with a focus on Audit. He then spent four years working as a Manager at Crowe Morgan.
Hooper stood unsuccessfully for the House of Keys as an independent candidate in 2011. He served as a Ramsey Town Commissioner between April 2012 and September 2016,including as chairman for the 2016/17 term until his election to the House of Keys in 2016 as a Liberal Vannin candidate.
Hooper became leader of the Liberal Vannin Party in August 2020. [2]

The Isle of Man,also known as Mann,is a self-governing British Crown Dependency in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland. As head of state,Charles III holds the title Lord of Mann and is represented by a Lieutenant Governor. The government of the United Kingdom is responsible for the isle's military defence and represents it abroad.
The government of the Isle of Man is a parliamentary representative democracy. The Monarch of the United Kingdom is also the head of state of the Isle of Man,and generally referred to as "The King,Lord of Mann". Legislation of the Isle of Man defines "the Crown in right of the Isle of Man" as separate from the "Crown in right of the United Kingdom". His representative on the island is the Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man,but his role is mostly ceremonial,though he does have the power to grant Royal Assent.
The Legislative Council is the upper chamber of Tynwald,the legislature of the Isle of Man. The abbreviation "LegCo" is often used.
The Manx Labour Party is a political party on the Isle of Man that was founded in 1918.
The Isle of Man partially elects its legislature at the national level. The High Court of Tynwald consists of two chambers. The House of Keys has 24 members,elected in a general election for a five-year term in 12 two-seat constituencies. Each voter has two votes and in each constituency the two candidates with the most votes are elected. The Legislative Council has 11 members:three ex-officio members and eight other members who are elected by the House of Keys for a five-year term. Political parties do not play an important role on the Island. The Isle of Man lowered its voting age from 18 to 16 in 2006.

The "Vannin" in the party name is a form of the name of the Isle of Man in the native Manx Gaelic language,while "Liberal" is a reference to the general political position of the party. General elections were held in the Isle of Man on 23 September 2021. A record ten women were elected,twice as many as the five elected at the previous election. For the first time,in two constituencies,both elected MHKs were women. Four government ministers failed to be re-elected.
