Lego Brawls is a fighting game developed and published by Lego Games in partnership with American studio Red Games Co., and is being distributed in physical format for consoles by Bandai Namco Entertainment. [5] [6] LEGO Brawls was released for Apple Arcade on September 19, 2019, for iOS mobile devices. [7] [8] LEGO Brawls was the first LEGO game for Apple Arcade. Gameplay

Lego Brawls is a family-friendly platform fighter. Each LEGO themed level offers different game modes, unique challenges, and win conditions. During multiplayer online play, players can compete 4v4 to control the point, gather collectibles in Collect Mode levels, play a battle royale-style game, or have a free-for-brawl where the last player standing wins. In Party Mode, players can play private games with friends locally or online. With cross-platform support, players can team up and compete, regardless of their game system. [13]

Lego Brawls allows the player to create their own "hero" to their liking with their own weapons and power-ups. [7] As the player plays, the player will be rewarded with mystery chests that contain either a cosmetic element or a combat element. [7] Mystery bags were later introduced that could also reward characters and weapons after playing a certain number of battles over three tiers, Common (3), Rare (5) and Epic (10).

The collection of playable minifigure characters is based on recognizable Lego minifigures that have been released throughout Lego history either as part of Lego construction sets, as collectible minifigures or as part of one of the Lego themes. Minifigures are grouped into different types and include Classic Space, Pirates, Alien Conquest, Castle, Western, Ninjago, Hidden Side, Jurassic World, Vidiyo, and Monkie Kid. [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20] "Event" themes are also available, such as a Halloween-themed "Brick or Treat" theme and Christmas-themed "Jingle Brawls" theme. Development and release

Lego Brawls was developed by Red Games. [24] [25]

Lego Games Vice President Sean William McEvoy said that the game was developed for families to enjoy: "Having grown up playing with Lego, we were inspired to make Lego Brawls something that families could play together. Apple Arcade is the perfect venue for this shared experience. Whether they're playing on iPhones in separate locations or sitting next to each other in front of an Apple TV, players of all ages can enjoy the fun of Lego Brawls anywhere at any time." [26]

Lego Brawls was announced to be an Apple Arcade game exclusive during Apple's March 26 event. [27] The trailer was released later that day. [28] On October 25, 2019, Lego Brawls was released on macOS. [29] Lego Brawls was released for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on September 2, 2022.

Reception

Lego Brawls received "generally unfavorable" reviews for PlayStation 5 according to review aggregator Metacritic; [30] the Xbox Series X/S version received "mixed or average" reviews. [31] Metacritic listed Lego Brawls as the fifth-worst game of 2022. [38] Lego Brawls has drawn comparisons to Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. [7] [24] [26] Multiplayer.it said of the iOS version, "it's fun... but only if you use a controller." [36] Push Square were more critical in their criticism in their review, stating, "Gameplay is a never-ending slog, a grindy system to unlock parts". They also criticized the gameplay, AI and sound. [34] Similarly, Nintendo Life called it shallow and repetitive, while mentioning the poor camera and "stuttering performance on Switch". [33]

Chris Morris for Common Sense Media gave the game a four out of five star rating and commented, "The controls are a bit hard to grasp at first, though. Swiping a screen and fighting can be a challenging combination, which may make you want to use a game controller instead. At least there's a solo level, allowing you to practice those skills, which will give you a better chance in an actual game. It's a notable concern, but it's one that diminishes as you log extra time breaking apart rival Legos. Lego Brawls is one of those fun title that kids and parents can gather around a tablet or phone and have a great time fighting and laughing over." [39]

Lego Harry Potter is a Lego theme based on the film series of the same name and the eponymous novels by British author J. K. Rowling. It is licensed from Warner Bros. Lego models of important scenes, vehicles and characters were made for the first six films and all of the published books. The first sets appeared in 2001, to coincide with the release of the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Lego City is a theme under which Lego building sets are released based on city life, with the models depicting city and emergency services, airport, train, construction, and civilian services. It evolved from LEGOLAND Town as one of the three original themes that Lego produced upon its launch of the Lego minifigure in 1978 along with Castle and Space, with each of the three themes representing the 'Past' (Castle), 'Present' (Town) and 'Future' (Space). The Town brand was briefly replaced with Lego World City in 2003 and 2004 before it was simply rebranded as Lego City in 2005.

Lego Spider-Man is a product range of the Lego construction toy, based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. When the theme first launched in 2002, it was inspired by the Spider-Man film released the same year and was part of the Lego Studios line. Additional sets were released two years later, based on the film's sequel, Spider-Man 2. The theme was discontinued before the release of Spider-Man 3, and the rights were sold to rival Mega Brands, who entered a multi-year licensing deal with Marvel Enterprises, giving them the rights to produce playsets, vehicles, and other building-themed products based upon various Marvel characters for their Mega Bloks toys.

Lego Creator is a Lego theme for generic models. Creator sets have few specialized bricks to create buildings, creatures, vehicles, and robots. Some sets featured instructions for three different possible builds from the bricks included and most sets in recent years have used the 3-in-1 label. Creator is also a parent theme to Lego Icons, a Lego subtheme for adolescents and adults featuring advanced building techniques and large piece counts, mostly known for Modular Buildings and detailed vehicles. Creator also has had several other subthemes such as X-Pods and mosaics.

Lego Minifigures are a 2010 Lego theme based on a set of collectible Lego minifigures. Each figure is an original character with new clothing and facial designs, and many contain previously unseen accessories. Each series usually contains 16 different minifigures; however, some series contain as few as 9 minifigures, while others contain up to 22. Since 2021, the number of different minifigures for a series is set to 12. In 2023, the Disney 100-anniversary series came out, bringing the total number of figures to 18, although it was once again reduced to 12 with the second Marvel series. This series also introduced paper boxes, instead of the plastic bags, making it no longer possible to feel up the pieces for each figure.

Lego Ninjago is a Lego theme that was created in 2011 and a flagship brand of The Lego Group. It is the first theme to be based on ninja since the discontinuation of the Lego Ninja theme in 2000. It was produced to coincide with the animated television series Ninjago, which was superseded in 2023 by a new series titled Ninjago: Dragons Rising.

Lego Dimensions is a Lego-themed action-adventure platform crossover video game developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Wii U. It follows the toys-to-life format, in that the player has Lego figures and a toy pad that can be played within the game itself where it features characters and environments from over 30 different franchises. The Starter Pack, containing the game, the USB toy pad, and three minifigures, was released in September 2015, while additional level packs and characters were released over the following two years.

The Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game is a Lego-themed action-adventure video game developed by TT Fusion and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Based on The Lego Ninjago Movie, it was released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One, alongside the film, in North America on 22 September 2017, and worldwide on 20 October 2017. It serves as the second spin-off video game and the third game in The Lego Movie franchise.

Lego Builder's Journey is a puzzle game developed by Light Brick Studio and published by Lego Games. When it first released on December 19, 2019, Lego Builder's Journey was initially an exclusive game for the Apple Arcade service on iOS, macOS, And visionOS; however, the game was subsequently ported to the Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows, with these ports both being made available on June 22, 2021. It was also ported to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on November 25, 2021. The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 ports of the game released on April 19, 2022. Lego Builder's Journey and Lego Brawls were the first two Lego games for Apple Arcade. Lego Builder's Journey has received generally positive reviews.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Lego Hidden Side</span> Lego theme

Lego Hidden Side was a Lego theme that was first introduced in August 2019. It took place in the fictional city of "Newbury" and linked Lego playsets to an app of the same name, which was used to hunt, capture and collect ghosts via augmented reality. The series came on the market in 2019 and, after the discontinued Lego Dimensions and Nexo Knights series, represented another attempt by The Lego Group to link digital and real game worlds. It was accompanied by the Lego Hidden Side webisode series and a television special, which was released on the Lego YouTube channel, and on Cartoon Network. The product line was discontinued by the end of 2020.

<i>The Lego Movie</i> (Lego theme) Lego product line based on The Lego Movie

The Lego Movie is a Lego product line based on the 2014 film of the same name. It was licensed from The Lego Group and Warner Bros. Animation. The theme was first introduced on 26 December 2013 in the United Kingdom and 30 December in the United States to coincide with the release of the film, along with The Lego Movie Video Game. Further sets were produced to coincide with the release of the second film in The Lego Movie franchise, titled The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. The product line was discontinued by 31 December 2019.

The Lego Ninjago Movie was a product line based on The Lego Ninjago Movie, the third film of The Lego Movie franchise. It was licensed from The Lego Group and Warner Bros. Animation. The theme was introduced on 22 September 2017 as part of a licensing and merchandising programme associated with the film. Alongside the release of the Lego sets, the programme included the release of several promotional short films and The Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game. The product line was discontinued by 31 December 2019.

Lego The Lord of the Rings is a Lego theme based on The Lord of the Rings film trilogy directed by Peter Jackson and the novel by the English author and scholar J. R. R. Tolkien. It is licensed from Warner Bros., New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The theme was first introduced in 2012. The first sets appeared in 2012, to coincide with a release of the video game Lego The Lord of the Rings. Subsequent sets based on The Hobbit film trilogy would also be released and the video game Lego The Hobbit was released in 2014. The product line was discontinued by the end of 2015. Later, the theme was relaunched in January 2023 with three new sets released as the part of the Lego BrickHeadz theme. In February 2023, The Lego Group unveiled a new Rivendell set that released on 8 March 2023 as the part of the Lego Icons theme. Further, a Barad-Dûr set released on 1 June 2024, also as part of the Icons theme.

Lego Vidiyo was a Lego theme that allows children to create their own music videos and dance clips using a range of Lego toy sets and an associated app. It is licensed from Universal Music Group. The theme was first introduced in March 2021, before being discontinued by the end of January 2022 after being deemed a commercial disaster.

Lego Ninjago is an action-adventure video game franchise that coincides with the Ninjago line of toys. The games are usually similar to the storyline of the Ninjago TV series and movie, but are usually released parallel to the Ninjago media franchise.
