The Leo Magnus Cricket Complex (LMCC) is a group of four cricket grounds located in the Van Nuys neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, United States. [2] The facility is also called Woodley Cricket Field(s) or Woodley Cricket Complex due to its location in Woodley Park. [3] Former Jamaican Test cricketer Franklyn Rose has said of the complex: "It has the best cricket field facilities in the US. There is no comparison." [2]

History

The cricket complex is named after Leo "Jingles" Magnus, a Jamaican cricketer who also played for the University Cricket Club and coached the Compton Cricket Club (formerly the Los Angeles Krickets) and the Sheenaway Serendipity Cricket Club. [2] It first opened in 1975.

In 1978, the Glendale Equestrian Center took over the Burbank-area Griffith Park Cricket Association grounds, which had been home to L.A. cricket via the Hollywood Cricket Club since 1933. [2] An active West Indian cricket community obtained land in the Sepulveda Basin in 1977 [4] and two fields at Woodley opened in 1980 (named the Clifford Severn and Ernie Wright grounds), with two more added in 1996 (the Jean Wong and John Marder grounds (now under Los Angeles Cricket's, a 501 (c)(3), guardianship), both named for former Southern California Cricket Association presidents). The complex has a small stand, which can seat 50, and a clubhouse with bathrooms. [2]

In 1997, Woodley hosted the Jamaican team (featuring Jimmy Adams and Franklyn Rose) and in 1999 hosted a List A match between an India A side (with VVS Laxman) against an Australia A side (with Brett Lee, Adam Gilchrist, and Andrew Symonds), which attracted a crowd of 5,000. In the 2000s, Twenty20 cricket became popular and Southern California Cricket Association President Vehman Reddy helped bring the Trinidad and Tobago side and Punjabi Blues to L.A. for three annual tournaments. The complex is frequently used for United States of America Cricket Association trials. The first American College Cricket west-coast regional championship took place at Woodley in 2010. The American Cricket Federation hosted its first Twenty20 tournament at Woodley in 2012. [5]

In 2016 the International Cricket Council (ICC) held the World Cricket League Division Four tournament at the LMCC. This was the first time an ICC WCL divisional event had been played in the United States. [6] The U.S. won the tournament by beating Oman in the Final and both were promoted to Division Three. [7] Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones stopped by to watch one of the U.S. matches. [8]

He has also played in West Indian domestic cricket including for several teams in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The 2016 ICC World Cricket League Division Four was an international limited-overs cricket tournament held in Los Angeles from 29 October – 5 November 2016. It was the fifth edition of WCL Division Four, and the first World Cricket League tournament played in the United States. All matches were played at the Leo Magnus Cricket Complex.

2017 ICC World Cricket League Division Three was a cricket tournament that took place in Uganda between 23 and 30 May 2017. The matches took place in Lugogo, Kyambogo and Entebbe. The top two teams, Oman and Canada, were promoted to Division Two. The final ended as a no result due to rain, and therefore Oman won the tournament by virtue of finishing top of the group stage table.

Rajeshkumar Jagdishchandra Ranpura is an Indian-born cricketer who plays for the Oman national cricket team. Ranpura made his debut for the Omani national side in January 2011, and has played regularly for the side since then. He played in all eight of Oman's matches at the 2012 World Twenty20 Qualifier in the United Arab Emirates, which were accorded Twenty20 status.

Elmore Howard Hutchinson is an American cricketer of Jamaican origin. He made his debut for the American national side in March 2012.

Zeeshan Maqsood is a Pakistani-born cricketer who plays for the Oman national cricket team and is the captain of the national team. He has played for the team since 2012 and represented Oman at the 2016 and 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cups. In January 2022, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Maqsood as the ICC Men's Associate Cricketer of the Year.

Khawar Ali is a Pakistani-born cricketer who plays for the Oman national cricket team as an all-rounder.

Mohammad Nadeem is a Pakistani-born cricketer who plays for the Oman national cricket team.

Bilal Khan is a Pakistani-born cricketer who has played for the Oman national cricket team since 2015. He is a left-arm fast bowler. He represented Oman at the 2016 and 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cups.

The 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Three was an international cricket tournament that took place in Oman between 9 and 19 November 2018. It formed part of the 2017–19 cycle of the World Cricket League (WCL) which determines the qualification for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The top two teams were promoted to the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament, and the other four teams will play in the 2019–21 ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League. The 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two was an international cricket tournament that took place in April 2019 in Namibia. It was contested by six teams; Canada, Hong Kong, Oman, Papua New Guinea, the United States and tournament hosts Namibia. It formed part of the 2017–19 cycle of the World Cricket League (WCL) which determined the qualification for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The final and third-place playoff match were granted One Day International (ODI) status by the International Cricket Council. Namibia won the tournament, after they beat Oman by 145 runs in the final. It was Namibia's first win in an ODI match, and it was the first ever ODI match played by Oman.

Church Street Park is a cricket ground in Morrisville, North Carolina, United States. In September 2018, it hosted the matches in the Northern sub-region group of the 2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier tournament. In May 2019, the International Cricket Council (ICC) stated that the ground would host six One Day International (ODI) matches in the 2019 United States Tri-Nation Series. However, in July 2019, it was announced that either a new venue in Morgan Hill, California, or the Leo Magnus Cricket Complex in Woodley Park in Los Angeles would host the tournament.
