Letchmore Heath is a village in Hertfordshire in England, situated about three miles east of Watford.
The village, consisting of about 150 houses, lies to the east of Watford, southwest of Radlett and southeast of Aldenham.
Due to its proximity to Elstree Studios, it has often been used as a set in films, in particular the 1960 British horror movie Village of the Damned .
It has a village green, a pond and a pub, the Three Horseshoes, which is on the north side of the green.
The name Letchmore is derived from the Old Saxon "leche mere", meaning muddy pond. The present pond is located to the south of the village green.
To the west, but still within the village, is Bhaktivedanta Manor. [1]
Letchmore Heath has no main roads running through it and no public transport. It is, however, close to the M1 and M25 motorways. The nearest railway stations are at Radlett, Stanmore, Elstree & Borehamwood and Watford.
A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1896-1977), the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, commonly known as the Hare Krishnas, stayed in Letchmore Heath for a few months every year after establishing Bhaktivedanta Manor, a temple, in the village.
He commented about Letchmore Heath, that because it was so beautiful with many forest walks, it reminded him of Krishna’s birthplace, Vrindavana. [2] He would daily go on long walks through the village and appreciated its cleanliness. [2]
Graphic designer David Rudnick was born in Letchmore Heath and spent his formative years there. [3]
Novelist Joanna Briscoe spent her early years here, and the location inspired the setting for her novel Touched.

Aldenham is a village and civil parish in Hertfordshire, 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north-east of Watford and 2 miles (3.2 km) southwest of Radlett. Cassiobury Park is the principal public park in Watford, Hertfordshire, in England. It was created in 1909 from the purchase by Watford Borough Council of part of the estate of the Earls of Essex around Cassiobury House which was subsequently demolished in 1927. It comprises over 190 acres (77 ha) and extends from the A412 Rickmansworth Road in the east to the Grand Union Canal in the west, and lies to the south of the Watford suburb of Cassiobury, which was also created from the estate. The western part is a 62-acre (25.1 ha) Local Nature Reserve managed by the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. The park hosts the free, weekly timed parkrun 5 km event every Saturday morning at 9 am, starting on the field near the Shepherds Road entrance to the park, and finishing by the bandstand.
Bhaktivedanta Manor is a Gaudiya Vaishnava Hindu temple set in the Hertfordshire countryside of England, in the village of Letchmore Heath near Watford. The Manor is owned and run by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), better known as the Hare Krishna movement. It is ISKCON's largest property in the United Kingdom, and one of the most frequently visited Radha Krishna temples in Europe. The house is listed Grade II on the National Heritage List for England.
