The Linguistic Society of Hong Kong (LSHK) is a non-profit academic association,which was formally registered as a charitable organization in Hong Kong on 8 March 1986. [1]
They are the creators of "The Linguistic Society of Hong Kong Cantonese Romanization Scheme" known as Jyutping. [1]
Yue is a branch of the Sinitic languages primarily spoken in Southern China,particularly in the provinces of Guangdong and Guangxi.

The Hong Kong Government uses an unpublished system of Romanisation of Cantonese for public purposes which is based on the 1888 standard described by Roy T Cowles in 1914 as Standard Romanisation. The primary need for Romanisation of Cantonese by the Hong Kong Government is in the assigning of names to new streets and places. It has not formally or publicly disclosed its method for determining the appropriate Romanisation in any given instance.
Hong Kong cuisine is mainly influenced by Cantonese cuisine,European cuisines and non-Cantonese Chinese cuisines,as well as Japanese,Korean and Southeast Asian cuisines,due to Hong Kong's past as a British colony and a long history of being an international port of commerce. The Cantonese people or Yue people,are a Han Chinese subgroup originating from or residing in the provinces of Guangdong and Guangxi,in southern mainland China. In a strict sense,"Cantonese" refers only to people with roots from Guangzhou and its satellite cities and towns,rather than generally referring to the people of the Liangguang region.
Cantonese people represent the largest group in Hong Kong. Stephen Matthews is a British linguist in Hong Kong. He is Co-Director of the Childhood Bilingualism Research Centre at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His specialist areas include language typology,syntax and semantics. His current interests include the word order typology of Chinese;the grammar of Chinese languages,notably Cantonese,Chaozhou and other Minnan dialects;language contact and bilingualism,with particular reference to Sinitic languages.
MacLehose Medical Rehabilitation Centre is a rehab and long-term care hospital above Sandy Bay in Hong Kong. Founded in 1984 by the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation,it has 150 medical rehabilitation beds,including 20 beds for day rehabilitation service. Code-switching is a type of linguistic behaviour that juxtaposes "passages of speech belonging to two different grammatical systems or sub-systems,within the same exchange". Code-switching in Hong Kong mainly concerns two grammatical systems:Cantonese and English. According to Matrix Language Frame Model,Cantonese,as the "matrix language",contributes bound morphemes,content and function words,whereas,English,the "embedded language",contributes lexical,phrases or compound words.
Virginia Yip (葉彩燕),is a Hong Kong linguist and writer. She is director of the Childhood Bilingualism Research Centre. She is a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research interests include bilingual language acquisition,second language acquisition,Cantonese,Chaozhou and comparative Sinitic grammar,psycholinguistics,and cognitive science.

Taishanese people,Sze Yup people,or Toisanese are a Han Chinese group coming from Sze Yup,which consisted of the four county-level cities of Taishan,Kaiping,Xinhui and Enping. Heshan has since been added to this historic region and the prefecture-level city of Jiangmen administers all five of these county-level cities,which are sometimes informally called Ng Yap. The ancestors of Taishanese people are said to have arrived from central China under a thousand years ago and migrated into Guangdong during the Tang Dynasty. Taishanese,as a dialect of Yue Chinese,has linguistically preserved many characteristics of Middle Chinese.
Hong Kong Sign Language (香港手語),alternatively romanized as Hong Kong Saujyu and popularly abbreviated in English as HKSL,is the deaf sign language of Hong Kong and Macau. It derived from the southern dialect of Chinese Sign Language,but is now an independent,mutually unintelligible language.

Cantonese nationalism is a political movement that supports the independence of Guangdong or Cantonese-majority areas from China. Proponents of this movement seek to establish a sovereign state or an autonomous entity that recognizes the distinct cultural and linguistic identity of the Cantonese people.
