Mohun Bagan Super Giant (commonly referred to as Mohun Bagan) is an Indian association football club based in Kolkata, West Bengal. Founded in 1889, it is one of the oldest football clubs in Asia. The club competes in the Indian Super League, the top tier of Indian football league system. [1]
Till now the club has won the top-flight football league a record six times — Indian Super League once, I-League twice and National Football League thrice. [2] They are one of the most successful Indian clubs in the history of the Federation Cup, having won the championship a record 14 times. [3] The club had also won several other trophies, including the ISL playoffs (1 time), the Durand Cup (17 times), the IFA Shield (22 times), the Rover's Cup (14 times) and the Calcutta Football League (30 times). Subimal "Chuni" Goswami was an Indian professional footballer and first-class cricketer. As footballer, he played as a striker or winger, captained both the Mohun Bagan club and the India national team. He also served as the Sheriff of Kolkata. Goswami scored 12 goals in 37 international appearances. He was an Olympian, represented India national team at the 1960 Summer Olympics. He also led the team to achieve the gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games, and earn the runners-up position at the 1964 AFC Asian Cup.

The first match was played on 8 August 1921 in Cooch Behar Cup and latest match of this historical derby was played on 19 October 2024 in Indian Super League. The Kolkata Derby is considered to be greatest derby in Asian Football and also one of the biggest derbies in the world.
