The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are prestigious centrally funded technical institutes under the ownership of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. They are governed by the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education, and Research Act, 2007, which declared them institutions of national importance and laid down their powers, duties, and framework for governance. The act lists 31 NITs. Each NIT is autonomous and linked to the others through a common council known as the Council of NITSER, which oversees their administration. All NITs are funded by the Government of India.

Faqir Chand Kohli was a co-founder and the first CEO of TCS Tata Consultancy Services, India's largest software services company. He was also associated with other companies within Tata Group, including Tata Power Company and Tata Elxsi, and had been President of Indian Information Technology (IT) services advocacy body NASSCOM. He was a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honor, in 2002 for his contributions to the Indian software industry. He is referred to as the "Father of the Indian IT Industry", for his contributions to the establishment and growth of the Indian IT industry.

Natarajan Chandrasekaran is an Indian businessman, and the chairman of Tata Sons. He was chief operating officer (COO) and executive director of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where in 2009, he became chief executive officer (CEO). He was also the chairman of Tata Motors and Tata Global Beverages (TGB). He became the first non-Parsi and professional executive to head the Tata Group. He has assumed the chair of B20 India and will lead the business agenda during India's G20 presidency.

Ramesh R. Rao is currently the director of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, a division of the University of California, San Diego. He was appointed as the first holder of the Qualcomm Endowed Chair in Telecommunications and Information Technologies in 2004 in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Jacobs School of Engineering at University of California, San Diego where he has been a faculty member since 1984.

Baba C. Vemuri is the Wilson and Marie Collins Professor of Engineering and a Distinguished Professor at the Computer and Information Sciences and Engineering Department of the University of Florida. He is also the Director of Laboratory for Vision Graphics and Medical Imaging at University of Florida.

Chetan Sankar is the Advisory Council Emeritus Professor of Management Information Systems at Raymond J. Harbert College of Business, Auburn University. He was the founder and director of the Geospatial Research and Applications Center.

Vallabh Sambamurthy is the Albert O. Nicholas Dean of the Wisconsin School of Business of the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Nagarajan Ranganathan was a Distinguished University Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Florida, Tampa, United States. He was elected as a Fellow of IEEE in 2002 for his contributions to algorithms and architectures for VLSI systems. He was elected Fellow of AAAS in 2012. He served as the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems.

Venkat Selvamanickam is the M.D Anderson Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering and a Professor of Physics at the University of Houston. He is also the Director of the Applied Research Hub of the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston.

Madhavan Swaminathan is the John Pippin Chair in Electromagnetics in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Director of the Center for Co-Design of Chip, Package, System, Georgia Institute of Technology.

Bayya Yegnanarayana is an INSA Senior Scientist at International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad, Hyderabad, AP, India. He is an eminent professor and is known for his contributions in Speech Signal Processing, Artificial Neural Networks and related areas. He has guided about 30 PhD theses, 42 MS theses and 65 MTech projects, and currently guiding about 10 PhD students. He is the General Chair for the international conference, INTERSPEECH 2018, held at Hyderabad.

The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli is a national research deemed university near the city of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. It was founded as Regional Engineering College Tiruchirappalli in 1964 by the governments of India and Tamil Nadu under the affiliation of the University of Madras. The college was granted deemed university status in 2003 with the approval of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Government of India and renamed the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli.
