The Rajya Sabha (meaning the "Council of States") is the upper house of the Parliament of India. Arunachal Pradesh elects 1 seat and they are indirectly elected by the state legislators of Arunachal Pradesh, since 1972. The Rajya Sabha, also known as the Council of States, is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of India. As of 2023, it has a maximum membership of 250, of which 238 are elected by the legislatures of the states and union territories using single transferable votes through open ballots, while the president can appoint 12 members for their contributions to art, literature, science, and social service. The total allowed capacity is 250 according to article 80 of the Indian Constitution. The current potential seating capacity of the Rajya Sabha is 245, after the Jammu and Kashmir (Reorganisation) Act. The maximum seats of 250 members can be filled up at the discretion and requirements of the house of Rajya Sabha.
Mukut Mithi is an Indian politician and former Member of the Rajya Sabha. He is a former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. He served as an MLA consecutively from 1983 until his appointment as last Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry and first Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry in 2006. He was Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh from 19 January 1999 until 3 August 2003.
Omem Moyong Deori was an Indian politician from Arunachal Pradesh belonging to Indian National Congress. She was a member of the influential All India Congress Committee (AICC) for many years. Considered one of the most powerful northeastern leaders in the Indian National Congress, she served as President of Arunachal Pradesh Pradesh Congress Committee. Deori was believed to have had very close relations with Indira Gandhi.
