The Spain women's national rugby union team played their first match on 2 May 1989, against France, losing 0-28. The team played the Women's Six Nations from 2000 to 2006, but they were replaced by Italy for 2007, in order to mirror the men's tournament.
The Zambia women's national rugby union team are a national sporting side of Zambia, representing them at rugby union. The side first played in 2007.
The women's Elgon Cup was an annual competition held between the national rugby union teams of Kenya and Uganda. It ran parallel with the men's Elgon Cup, which has been running since 2004. The cup was competed for over two legs - one in each country. Home matches for Kenya were usually played at the RFUEA Ground, Nairobi, Kenya, whilst Uganda usually played their home matches at the Kyadondo Grounds, Kampala, Uganda.
The 2011 Women's European Trophy was the 16th rugby tournament organised by FIRA for the continent's national teams. The venues were in and around A Coruña in Spain, and the games have been played between 30 April and 7 May.
The Laos women's national rugby union team is a national sporting side that represents Thailand in women's rugby union. They first played international sevens rugby in 2007 at the South East Asia sevens, where they finished third. They then played a ten-a-side international against Cambodia in 2009, and in 2010 they won a non-test match developmental tournament involving Thailand and the Philippines. Their first full test was against Thailand in 2011.

The reigning champions entering the season are Corteva Cocos who claimed their 2nd league title after winning the 2021-22 final against Majadahonda.
The 2022 Rugby Africa Women's Cup is the second edition of the Rugby Africa Women's Cup following the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 editions due to COVID-19 related restrictions. The 12 teams are split in 4 pools that play a single round-robin where the winners classify to the second phase of the tournament. Pool A was played in June 2022 due to South Africa participation on the 2021 World Cup. The schedule for the other pools was announced by Rugby Africa on October 10, 2022.
