St Johnstone Football Club is a professional association football club in Perth, Scotland, which is a member of the Scottish Premiership for the 2022–23 season. The club's name is derived from St John's Toun aka Saint Johnstoun – an old name of Perth, and the team is nicknamed the "Saints". St Johnstone was officially founded in 1884 and the team played its first match in February 1885. Their home since 1989 has been McDiarmid Park; former home venues were the Perth Recreation Grounds and, from 1924 to 1989, Muirton Park. The team's first Scottish Cup appearance was in 1886–87 and they joined the Scottish Football League in 1911–12.
William Esplin Ormond was a Scottish football player and manager. As a player, Ormond was well known as one of Hibernian's Famous Five forward line, winning three league championships in the late 1940s and early 1950s. After a successful spell managing St Johnstone he led Scotland to the 1974 World Cup finals. Scotland were unbeaten at that World Cup, but were eliminated on goal difference.
The New Firm is the term used, hailing from the 1980s, to describe the rivalry between Scottish football clubs Aberdeen and Dundee United. Both clubs are located on the east coast of Scotland, in the third and fourth most populous cities respectively.
James McIntosh Weir is a Scottish professional football player and coach. Weir played in the senior Scottish leagues for Hamilton Academical, Hearts and St. Johnstone. He has also worked as manager of Montrose, Arbroath, Brechin City, Elgin City and Forfar Athletic.
John Gerald Brogan is a Scottish professional football player and manager. He played for several Scottish clubs in the 1970s and 1980s, scoring 273 goals in all competitions during his career. He remains St Johnstone's record goalscorer.

Douglas McKenzie Somner is a Scottish former footballer, who played for clubs including Partick Thistle and St Mirren. He was the first player ever to score for St Mirren in European competition. He finished as the top scorer in the Scottish Football League Premier Division in the 1979–80 season.
George McGeachie is a Scottish former footballer who played as a defender. McGeachie spent the majority of his career with Dundee, playing for thirteen seasons at Dens Park and making nearly 250 league appearances, including winning the 1978–79 Scottish First Division. In 1990, McGeachie moved down the east coast to play for Raith Rovers, spending four years with the Kirkcaldy club and winning the First Division again in 1992–93. A three-year spell with Stenhousemuir – including winning the Scottish Challenge Cup in 1995–96 – was McGeachie's final period in senior football before retiring in 1997.

Kenneth Ward is a Scottish retired footballer who made over 370 appearances as a winger in the Scottish League for Cowdenbeath, Forfar Athletic, St Johnstone, Hamilton Academical, Dunfermline Athletic, Falkirk and Clydebank. He is a member of the Cowdenbeath Hall of Fame.

Samuel "Sonny" Henderson is a Scottish former footballer who played for Celtic, Stirling Albion and Clydebank in the Scottish Football League. After retiring as a player he became a coach at Clydebank and was later their manager. As manager, Henderson helped Clydebank win promotion to the Scottish Premier Division in 1985.
