Troy University is a public university in Troy, Alabama. It was founded in 1887 as Troy State Normal School within the Alabama State University System, and is now the flagship university of the Troy University System. It was one of about 180 "normal schools" founded by state governments in the 19th century to train teachers for the rapidly growing public common schools. Some closed but most steadily expanded their role and became state colleges in the early 20th century and state universities in the late 20th century.
Troy Aumua Polamalu is an American former professional football player who spent his entire 12-year career as a safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). An eight-time Pro Bowl and six-time All-Pro selection, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame in 2020, his first year of eligibility.
Matthew Stephen Leinart is an American former football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons. He played college football for the USC Trojans, where he won the Heisman Trophy and led his team to an undefeated season as a junior. Selected tenth overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2006 NFL Draft, Leinart primarily served as Kurt Warner's backup for four seasons. He spent his final three seasons in a backup role for the Houston Texans and the Oakland Raiders. Leinart was inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2017.
The USC Trojan Marching Band, also known as the Spirit of Troy and nicknamed The Greatest Marching Band in the History of the Universe, Ever (TGMBITHOTUE), represents the University of Southern California (USC) at various collegiate sports, broadcast, popular music recording, and national public appearance functions.
William Ellis Atkins was an American football professional safety and punter who played for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL), and in the American Football League (AFL) for the Buffalo Bills, the New York Titans / Jets, and the Denver Broncos. He was an AFL All-Star in 1961. He played college football at Auburn.
The Troy Trojans football program represents Troy University at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level, where it has competed since 2001. The football program joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2004. The current head football coach is Gerad Parker. Troy has won 23 conference championships, with eight in the Sun Belt Conference. The Trojans play home games at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy, Alabama.
The 1965 USC Trojans football team represented the University of Southern California (USC) in the 1965 NCAA University Division football season. In their sixth year under head coach John McKay, the Trojans compiled a 7–2–1 record, finished in second place in the Athletic Association of Western Universities, and outscored their opponents by a combined total of 262 to 92. The team was ranked tenth in the final AP Poll and ninth in the final Coaches Poll.
Jacob Levi Brown is the quarterbacks coach at Valdosta State University. Brown was formerly the offensive coordinator for the Faulkner University American football team. Brown was an American football graduate assistant at Troy University and former quarterback. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college football at Troy.
The 1966 USC Trojans football team represented the University of Southern California (USC) in the 1966 NCAA University Division football season. In their seventh year under head coach John McKay, the Trojans compiled a 7–4 record, won the Athletic Association of Western Universities championship, and outscored their opponents by a combined total of 199 to 128. The team was ranked #18 in the final Coaches Poll in late November; the final AP poll of early December included only the top ten this season
The 1947 USC Trojans football team was an American football team that represented the University of Southern California (USC) as a member of the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) during the 1947 college football season. In its sixth year under head coach Jeff Cravath, the team compiled a 7–2–1 record, won the PCC championship, was ranked No. 8 in the final AP Poll, and outscored opponents by a total of 193 to 114. The team lost to Notre Dame in the final game of the regular season and to Michigan in the 1948 Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
The 1946 USC Trojans football team was an American football team that represented the University of Southern California (USC) in the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) during the 1946 college football season. In their fifth year under head coach Jeff Cravath, the Trojans compiled a 6–4 record, finished in third place in the PCC, and outscored their opponents by a total of 158 to 106. The Trojans were ranked No. 10 in the AP Poll in mid-November before losing consecutive games against No. 4 UCLA and No. 2 Notre Dame.

The 1931 USC Trojans football team was an American football team that represented the University of Southern California (USC) in the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) during the 1931 college football season. In their seventh season under head coach Howard Jones, the Trojans lost the opening game to Saint Mary's and then won the remaining ten games of the season. They finished the season with a 10–1 record, shut out six of eleven opponents, outscored all opponents by a total of 363 to 52, and won the PCC and national championships.
The Troy Trojans are the sports teams of Troy University. They began playing in the NCAA's Division I-A in 2001, became a football only member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2004, and joined that conference for all other sports in 2005. Troy University's athletics nickname was the Red Wave until the early 1970s when the student body voted to change the name to Trojans.

The Trojans played their home games in at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy, Alabama. The 1984 team came off a 7–4 record from the previous season. The 1984 team was led by coach Chan Gailey. The team finished the regular season with a 9–1 record and made the NCAA Division II playoffs. The Trojans defeated the North Dakota State Bison 18–17 in the National Championship Game en route to the program's first NCAA Division II Football Championship and second overall national championship.
The 1994 Troy State Trojans football team represented Troy State University—now known as Troy University—as an independent during the 1994 NCAA Division I-AA football season. Led by fourth-year head coach Larry Blakeney, the Trojans compiled a record of 8–4. For the second consecutive season, Troy State advanced to the NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship playoffs, where the Trojans lost to James Madison in the first round. The Trojans were ranked No. 10 in the final Sports Network poll. The team played home games at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy, Alabama.
