In 1975, Brisbane's first FM radio station began broadcasting from a studio at the University of Queensland Student Union. 4ZZ became a catalyst for the development of original music in the city. Bands such as The Saints, The Go-Betweens, gerrymander and the boundaries, The Riptides and The Laughing Clowns established an ecosystem for alternative music that continues to flourish.

The Judith Wright Arts Centre, formerly the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, is a visual and performing arts centre in Fortitude Valley in Brisbane, Queensland. The venue was renovated and re-opened as an arts centre in October 2001. The Centre is named after Judith Wright, who was a Queensland poet, an advocate for Indigenous rights, and an environmental activist.

The St. Jerome's Laneway Festival, commonly referred to as Laneway, began in Caledonian Lane, Melbourne, Australia, on Sunday, February 27, 2005. Beginning as predominantly an indie music event, the festival grew in popularity and expanded to five Australian cities—Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Fremantle—as well as Auckland, New Zealand and Singapore.

The Caxton Street Seafood and Wine Festival is an annual event in Brisbane, Australia. It was founded in 1994 by the Caxton Street Development Association to promote Caxton Street, in historic Petrie Terrace, as an area for Australian music, food and drink, plus art and history. The area is near to the Suncorp Stadium and the Brisbane central business district.

Brisbane Festival is one of Australia's leading international arts festivals, and is held each September in Brisbane, Australia.

Anywhere Festival is an annual Brisbane based festival for performance anywhere but traditional theatre spaces. The first anywhere-but-in-a-traditional-theatre concept was brought to Brisbane in 2011 by creative director Paul Osuch and his partner, Ally McTavish. Their theory is that we need to take traditional story-telling out of theatre buildings and back to where life really takes place, in the community.

Gambaro is an Australian hospitality group headquartered in Brisbane, Queensland and was founded in 1953. The group was passed from founder Giovanbaptista Gambaro to sons Michael and Domenico, who opened the Gambaro seafood restaurant in 1974. It is the oldest established restaurant in Brisbane. Currently, the Gambaro Group comprises businesses including the Gambaro Restaurant, Black Hide Steakhouse, Persone, and the Gambaro Hotel, MG Bar, and Function Centre.

Latai Taumoepeau is an Australian contemporary artist. She is best known for her performance art, which explores the politics of race, colour and power in Australia. She has shown her works in leading Sydney galleries and venues including the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Carriageworks, Performance Space, the Sydney Opera House, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, and the Australian Museum.

The cuisine of Brisbane derives from mainstream Australian cuisine, as well as many cuisines of international origin, with major influences from Asian cuisine, European cuisine, and American cuisine that reflect the city's ethnic diversity, though Brisbane is represented by a wide range of other ethnic cuisines.
