Afghanistan is divided into 34 provinces. The provinces of Afghanistan are the primary administrative divisions. Each province encompasses a number of districts or usually over 1,000 villages.

Faryab Province Province of Afghanistan

Faryab is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan, which is located in the north of the country bordering neighboring Turkmenistan. It has a population of about 1,109,223, which is multi-ethnic and mostly a tribal society. The province encompasses 15 districts and over 1,000 villages. The capital of Faryab province is Maymana. It also borders Jowzjan Province, Sar-e Pol Province, Ghor Province and Badghis Province.

Sar-e Pol Province Province of Afghanistan

Sar-e Pol, also spelled Sari Pul, is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan, located in the north of the country. It borders Ghor and Bamyan to the south, Samangan to the east, Balkh and Jowzjan to the north, and Faryab to the west. The province is divided into 7 districts and contains 896 villages. It has a population of about 632,000, which is multi-ethnic and mostly a tribal society. The province was created in 1988, with the support of northern Afghan politician Sayed Nasim Mihanparast. The city of Sar-e Pol serves as the provincial capital.

Ghormach is a district situated in the north of Badghis Province, Afghanistan. The district centre is Ghormach.

Enayatullah Enayat was Governor of Faryab Province in Afghanistan from 2003 until 2005, when he was appointed as Governor of Badghis Province. Enayat was later the governor of Samangan Province.

Qurghan is a district in Faryab Province, Afghanistan. It was created in 2005 from the western part of Andkhoy District. The district center Qurghan is very close to Andkhoy at 317 m altitude.

Almar is a district in the southwestern part of Faryab Province, Afghanistan. Its northern border is the national border with Turkmenistan. The population was estimated at 150,000 in 2013. Ethnic diversity includes 35% Turkmen and 65% Uzbek.

Khwaja Sabz Posh District is the district where the Faryab Province capital Maymana is located. It is a rural district without its own capital. The Khwaja Sabz Posh district is the closest district to the north of Maymana city. Khoja Sabz Posh is the name of a deceased village elder who was famous for always wearing the color green. There is a shrine dedicated to him on a hilltop just north of the Bazaar. It contains 85 villages. Ethnic diversity includes 80% Uzbek, 10% Pashtun and 10% Tajik.

Shirin-Tagab is the district center in the Faryab Province, Afghanistan. The population was 141,642 in 2013. Ethnic composition includes 10% Pashtun, 10% Tajik and 80% Uzbek.

Khairullah Anosh was the former Governor of Samangan Province, Afghanistan. He is the former district governor of Andkhoy District of Faryab Province.

Abdul Haq Shafaq Afghan politician

Abdul Haq Shafaq is an ethnic Hazara politician in Afghanistan. He is the former governor of Faryab, Daykundi, Samangan and Sar-e Pol provinces.

Abdul Latif Ibrahimi was a Governor of the Afghan Provinces Kunduz, Samangan, Faryab and Takhar.

Andkhoy District is a district in Faryab Province, Afghanistan. The district center is Andkhoy, and there are a total of 81 villages in the district. Most people farm or raise livestock in the district. The district is considered to be government-influenced, as opposed to the Taliban.

Qari Hekmatullah was an Uzbek Islamic militant and commander for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Afghanistan. With his main base of operations in Darzab District and Qush Tepa District of Jowzjan Province, he extended IS influence into Faryab Province and Sar-e Pol Province.

Sayed Anwar Sadat is an ethnic Uzbek politician in Afghanistan. He served as governor of Faryab Province from 2015 to 2017.

Battle of Darzab (2018)

The Battle of Darzab was a major conflict between the Taliban and the Islamic State's Khorasan Province (ISIL-KP) who fought each other over control of Jowzjan Province's Darzab District in Afghanistan. Following heavy clashes, ISIL-KP was defeated, with most of the group's forces in Jowzjan Province killed or captured.

On 15 August 2018, Taliban fighters attacked an Afghan National Army base and police checkpoints in Baghlan Province, the fighting lasted five hours and resulted in the deaths of at least 36 soldiers and 9 policemen. The attack occurred the same day Kabul was struck by a suicide bombing that left 48 dead, and one day after a base was besieged in Faryab. Hundreds of Taliban fighters reportedly took part in the predawn attack according to anonymous Afghan police official, by the end, the base had been completely overrun. Only two soldiers survived the attack, causing Afghan officials to believe they were possibly involved

General Ahmad Faisal Begzad, also called Ahmad Beig, is a former governor of Takhar Province. He assumed the role on 20 September 2012 and was previously the acting governor of Faryab Province. He left office in 2013 and became governor of Badakhshan in 2015.

The October 2020 Afghanistan attacks were multiple attacks launched by insurgents including the Taliban and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province in October 2020. The attacks left at least 243 people dead and 339 injured. 10 perpetrators were also killed in these attacks.
