A patrol boat is a relatively small naval vessel generally designed for coastal defence, border security, or law enforcement. There are many designs for patrol boats, and they generally range in size. They may be operated by a nation's navy, coast guard, police, or customs, and may be intended for marine, estuarine, or river environments.
The Romanian Naval Forces is the principle naval branch of the Romanian Armed Forces and operates in the Black Sea and on the Danube. It traces its history back to 1860.
The Type 143 Albatros class was a German class of missile bearing fast attack craft. Each vessel is named after a bird of prey including the albatross, condor and cormorant. Constructed by German shipbuilders Lürssen and Kröger, the vessels were intended to replace the Type 141 Seeadler class. The German Navy retired the class in 2005 and sold the boats off to Tunisia and Ghana.
The Type 142 Zobel class was a German class of torpedo bearing fast attack craft. They were in service with the Bundesmarine during the Cold War to protect the Baltic sea coast. The class was designed by Lürssen.
The Type 140 Jaguar-class fast attack craft is an evolution of the German torpedo boats (E-boats) of World War II. The design was developed by Lürssen and designated Schnellboot 55. The 20 boats that were built for the German Navy were in service from 1957 to 1975. Then the Jaguar-class boats were replaced in service with the Bundesmarine by the Tiger class.
The Rüzgar class is one of the Fast Attack Craft / Missile Boat classes of the Turkish Navy.
The Kartal class is a class of fast attack missile and torpedo boats of the Turkish Navy.
A Motor Launch (ML) is a small military vessel in Royal Navy service. It was designed for harbour defence and submarine chasing or for armed high-speed air-sea rescue. Some vessels for water police service are also known as motor launches.
The Brave-class fast patrol boats were a class of two gas turbine motor torpedo boats (MTBs) that were the last of their type for the Royal Navy (RN) Coastal Forces division. They formed the basis for a series of simpler boats which were widely built for export.
The Fairmile D motor torpedo boat was a type of British motor torpedo boat (MTB) and motor gunboat (MGB) designed by Bill Holt and conceived by Fairmile Marine for the Royal Navy. Nicknamed "Dog Boats", they were designed to combat the known advantages of the German E-boats over previous British coastal craft designs. They were bigger than earlier MTB or motor gunboat (MGB) designs but slower, at 30 knots compared to 40 knots.
The Muravey class is the NATO reporting name for a class of hydrofoil patrol boats built for the Soviet Navy between 1983 and 1989. The Soviet designation was Project 133 Antares.
The AB-25 class is a class of large patrol craft that was built for the Turkish Navy in the late 1960s and early 1970s. One craft was transferred to Georgia in 1998, two were transferred to Kazakhstan in 1999 and 2001, one was transferred to Azerbaijan in 2000 and the remainder are in service.
TCG Sultanhisar (P-111), ex-USS PC-1638, was a Hisar-class patrol boat of the Turkish Navy. She was built in 1963 by Gunderson Brothers Engineering Corp. in Portland, Oregon as a submarine chaser.
Sultanhisar was a torpedo boat of the Ottoman Navy. She was built in 1907 by Schneider & Cie in Chalon-sur-Saône, France, and transferred the same year to Turkey. She is best known for her action during the Gallipoli Campaign of World War I as she sank Royal Australian Navy submarine HMAS AE2 in the Sea of Marmara and captured her crew.
The Quidora was one of four torpedo boats built in Spain for the Chilean Navy since 1962, based originally in the Jaguar-class fast attack craft FPB-36 design of the German Lürssen Werft. Her sister ship Fresia PTF-81 is now a museum ship in Punta Arenas.
The Achimota class are a series of two fast attack craft in service in the Ghana Navy. They are based on the same Lürssen PB 57 design as the Turkish Yıldız class. The two ships of the class include Achimota and Yogaga. The two vessels were acquired by Ghana in the late 1970s and commissioned in 1981. The Achimota class is equipped with an OTO Melara 76-millimetre (3 in) dual-purpose gun and a 40 mm (1.6 in) anti-aircraft gun. They are primarily used for fishery protection duties.
KDB Syafaat (19) is the third ship of the Ijtihad-class patrol boats. The vessel is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
