A patrol boat is a relatively small naval vessel generally designed for coastal defence, border security, or law enforcement. There are many designs for patrol boats, and they generally range in size. They may be operated by a nation's navy, coast guard, police, or customs, and may be intended for marine, estuarine, or river environments.
Lürssen is a German shipyard with headquarters in Bremen-Vegesack and shipbuilding facilities in Lemwerder, Berne and Bremen-Fähr-Lobbendorf.
The Type 142 Zobel class was a German class of torpedo bearing fast attack craft. They were in service with the Bundesmarine during the Cold War to protect the Baltic sea coast. The class was designed by Lürssen.
The Type 140 Jaguar-class fast attack craft is an evolution of the German torpedo boats (E-boats) of World War II. The design was developed by Lürssen and designated Schnellboot 55. The 20 boats that were built for the German Navy were in service from 1957 to 1975. Then the Jaguar-class boats were replaced in service with the Bundesmarine by the Tiger class.
The Kılıç class is one of the fast attack craft / missile boat classes of the Turkish Navy. It is defined as a corvette by Lürssen Werft, the German designer of the vessel.
The Yıldız class is series of two fast attack craft/missile boats of the Turkish Navy. They class was designed by Lürssen Werft of Germany and share the same hull layout as the preceding Doğan class. Both ships of the class were built in Turkey and entered service in 1996. They remain in service.
The Rüzgar class is one of the Fast Attack Craft / Missile Boat classes of the Turkish Navy.
The La Combattante patrol boat was a type of fast attack craft built in France for export during the 1970s and '80s. It went through several modifications and was sold to, and operated by, numerous navies around the world.
The Muravey-class is the NATO reporting name for a class of hydrofoil patrol boats built for the Soviet Navy between 1983 and 1989. The Soviet designation was Project 133 Antares.
HM Motor Gun Boat 2007 was a motor gunboat operated by Royal Navy Coastal Forces during the Second World War. She was initially built as one of eight gunboats ordered by the Turkish Navy, but which went on to see service in the North Sea as fast blockade runners. She was initially classed as the merchant vessel Gay Corsair, crewed by men of the merchant navy and sailing under the red ensign. She became HM Motor Gunboat 507 after being acquired by the Royal Navy, and finally HM Motor Gun Boat 2007. She was wrecked under this name in 1945.
The AB-25 class is a class of large patrol craft that was built for the Turkish Navy in the late 1960s and early 1970s. One craft was transferred to Georgia in 1998, two were transferred to Kazakhstan in 1999 and 2001, one was transferred to Azerbaijan in 2000 and the remainder are in service.
TCG Sultanhisar (P-111), ex-USS PC-1638, was a Hisar-class patrol boat of the Turkish Navy. She was built in 1963 by Gunderson Brothers Engineering Corp. in Portland, Oregon as a submarine chaser.
Sultanhisar was a torpedo boat of the Ottoman Navy. She was built in 1907 by Schneider & Cie in Chalon-sur-Saône, France, and transferred the same year to Turkey. She is best known for her action during the Gallipoli Campaign of World War I as she sank Royal Australian Navy submarine HMAS AE2 in the Sea of Marmara and captured her crew.
The Achimota class are a series of two fast attack craft in service in the Ghana Navy. They are based on the same Lürssen PB 57 design as the Turkish Yıldız class. The two ships of the class include Achimota and Yogaga. The two vessels were acquired by Ghana in the late 1970s and commissioned in 1981. The Achimota class is equipped with an OTO Melara 76-millimetre (3 in) dual-purpose gun, and a 40 mm (1.6 in) anti-aircraft gun. They are primarily used for fishery protection duties.
The Jerung class is a class of gunboats in service with the Royal Malaysian Navy. This class is based on the same design as the Intrépida-class fast attack craft in service with Argentine Navy, the Lurssen FPB/TNC-45 fast attack craft and are built locally by Malaysia-Germany joint venture, Hong Leong-Lurssen Shipyards. The Jerung class is equipped only with Bofors 57 mm gun and Bofors 40 mm gun for close-in combat and fire support, unlike other fast attack crafts in Malaysian service which are armed with anti-ship missiles. Peacetime duties include patrol of the exclusive economic zone, interception of illegal immigrants and anti-piracy operations. They are too small and under-armed for use in conventional warfare or in open waters. In late 2020 Royal Malaysian Navy confirmed that this class of ship will be upgrade to lengthening service period of older ships.
For other ship classes of the same name see Nasty-type patrol boat
KDB Afiat (20) is the fourth and last ship of the Itjihad-class patrol boats. The vessel is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
The La Combattante II patrol boat was a type of fast attack craft built in France for export during the 1970s. Some 37 were built in various classes for several navies around the world.
