Below is the list of populated places in Istanbul Province, Turkey by the districts. All districts of Istanbul Province are considered as a part of Greater Istanbul and most districts have no populated places other than the district center itself. In the following lists first place in each list is the administrative center of the district. [1]
According to Law act no 6360, all Turkish provinces with a population more than 750 000 were renamed as metropolitan municipality. All districts in those provinces became second level municipalities and all villages in those districts were renamed as a neighborhoods Thus the villages below are officially neighborhoods of İstanbul.
Eyüp or Eyüpsultan is a district of the city of Istanbul, Turkey. The district extends from the Golden Horn all the way to the shore of the Black Sea. Eyüp is also the name of a prominent neighborhood and former village in the district, located at the confluence of the Kâğıthane and Alibey streams at the head of the Golden Horn. The Eyüp neighborhood is a historically important area, especially for Turkey's Muslims, due to the presence of the tomb of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari.
Gaziosmanpaşa is a developing working class municipality and district of Istanbul, Turkey, on its European side. With a population of 400,000 plus, it is one of the most populous districts. In 2009 Gaziosmanpaşa district was divided into three neighborhoods: Gaziosmanpaşa, the central; Sultangazi, the northern part; and Arnavutköy, the northernmost part. Esenler and Bayrampaşa are at west, Sultangazi is at north and Eyüp is at south and east of district. It was formed from parts of Eyüp and Çatalca districts in 1963.
Pendik is a district of Istanbul, Turkey on the Asian side between Kartal and Tuzla, on the Marmara Sea. Home to Sabiha Gökçen International Airport. Population is 711,894. It also neighbours Sultanbeyli, Sancaktepe and Çekmeköy from northwest, Şile from north and Gebze from northeast.
Şile is a city and district in Istanbul, Turkey. The district of Şile is part of Istanbul Province, and the municipality of Şile is part of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Bordering Şile is the province of Kocaeli to the east and south, and Istanbul districts of Pendik to the south, Çekmeköy to the southwest, and Beykoz to the west. The boundaries of Şile were expanded by the addition of the village of Esenceli from Beykoz district in 1987. Şile consists of Şile, Yeşilvadi and Teke subdistricts, and 58 villages. According to the 2007 census, the population of the district was 25,169, of which 9,831 lived in the city of Şile, 2,096 in the nearby town of Ağva (Yeşilçay) and 13,242 in surrounding villages. Popular resort Ağva is also a part of Şile. However, between June and September, the population rapidly increases because of the many residents of Istanbul who have summer houses in Şile.
Beykoz, also known as Beicos and Beikos, is a district in Istanbul, Turkey at the northern end of the Bosphorus on the Anatolian side. The name is believed to be a combination of the words bey and kos, which means "village" in Farsi. Beykoz includes an area from the streams of Küçüksu and Göksu to the opening of the Bosphorus into the Black Sea, and the villages in the hinterland as far as the Riva creek. The mayor is Murat Aydın (AKP).
Sarıyer is a district of Istanbul, Turkey, on the northeastern part of the city's European side. It consists of the neighbourhoods of Rumelifeneri, Tarabya, Yeniköy, İstinye, Emirgan and Rumelihisarı. Sarıyer also administers the Black Sea coast to the west of the mouth of the Bosphorus, including the neighbourhood of Kilyos. It borders Eyüp to the northwest, Beşiktaş to the south and Kağıthane to the west. Sarıyer has a population of approximately 350,000. The mayor is Şükrü Genç of the Republican People's Party (CHP). In 1930, some parts of the region of Beyoğlu and Çatalca were incorporated into Sarıyer, which also became the district centre. The district's boundaries shrunk after the neighbourhood of Kemerburgaz was given to the Eyüp district in 1936 and when the villages of Maslak and Ayazağa were given to Şişli district in 1954. The present boundaries of Sarıyer were created after incorporating the neighbourhoods of Maslak, Ayazağa and Huzur from the district of Şişli in 2012.
Silivri, formerly Selymbria, is a city and a district in Istanbul Province along the Sea of Marmara in Turkey, outside the urban core of Istanbul, containing many holiday and weekend homes for residents of the city. The largest settlement in the district is also named Silivri.
The Anastasian Wall or the Long Walls of Thrace is an ancient stone and turf fortification located 64 km (40 mi) west of Istanbul, Turkey, built by the Eastern Roman Empire during the late 5th century.
Çatalca is a city and a rural district in Istanbul, Turkey. It is the largest district in Istanbul by area. It is in East Thrace, on the ridge between the Marmara and the Black Sea. Most people living in Çatalca are either farmers or those visiting vacation homes. Many families from Istanbul come to Çatalca during weekends to hike in the forests or have picnics.
Boğaziçi is the general term, specific to İstanbul and overlapping administrative divisions, used to denote those parts of the city with a view of the Bosphorus. The respective nuances of the two terms being somewhat similar to those between San Francisco Bay and the Bay Area, they are not used interchangeably in correct parlance.
Arnavutköy is a town and rural district in Istanbul, Turkey. The district was newly formed in 2008 from the large rural part of Gaziosmanpaşa district and parts of other districts, including Çatalca. The mayor is Ahmet Haşim Baltacı of the AK Party. It is located on the European side of Istanbul and borders the Black Sea. The name of a neighborhood in the district, Hadımköy, was often spelled "Hademkeui" in European sources. Istanbul Airport is in the district.
