Malatya Province Province of Turkey in Central East Anatolia

Malatya Province is a province of Turkey. It is part of a larger mountainous area. The capital of the province is Malatya. Malatya is famous for its apricots. The area of Malatya province is 12,313 km². Malatya Province had a population of 853,658 according to the results of 2000 census, whereas in 2010 it had a population of 740,643. The provincial center, the city of Malatya, has a population of 426,381 (2010).

Dilek is a town in the central district (Malatya) of Malatya Province, Turkey. At 38°27′N38°15′E, Dilek is situated several kilometers southwest of Karakaya Dam resorvoir. It lies to the east of Turkish state highway which connects Malatya to Sivas. The distance to Malatya is 13 kilometres (8.1 mi). The railroad from Malatya to north also passes through Dilek. The population of Dilek is 7971 as of 2011. In 1964 Dilek was declared a seat of township. Major economic activity of the town is fruit gardening. Apricot is the main product.

Arapgir

Arapgir Place in Malatya, Turkey

Arapgir is a town and district of Malatya Province, Turkey. As of 2000 it had a population of 17,070 people. It is situated at the confluence of the eastern and western Euphrates river, but some miles from the right bank of the combined streams. Arapgir is connected with Sivas by a chaussée, prolonged to the Euphrates river. The present town was built in the mid-19th century, but about 2 miles north-east is the old town, now called Eskişehir. Its current mayor is Haluk Cömertoğlu (AKP).

Recent development

According to Law act no 6360, all Turkish provinces with a population more than 750 000, were renamed as metropolitan municipality. All districts in those provinces became second level municipalities and all villages in those districts were renamed as a neighborhoods . Thus the villages listed above are officially neighborhoods of Malatya.
