1914Tugboat206Soldat was a Russian icebreaking tugboat that served at Peter the Great's Naval Fortress in Tallinn, Estonia. She was captured by Finnish troops in Hanko in 1918, renamed Pelastaja I and later Sotilas, and handed over to the Finnish National Board of Navigation. 1914Tugboat207LostMatros was a Russian icebreaking tugboat, probably a sister ship to Soldat, that the Russians left behind in Estonia in 1918. She was later incorporated to the Estonian Navy and her name was translated to Madrus. When the Soviet Union occupied Estonia in 1940, Madrus was transferred to the port of Tallinn where she served as a harbour tugboat until World War II. Madrus was scuttled outside the port of Tallinn on 28 August 1941 to prevent her from being captured by the German forces. [3]

1918 Patrol boat 225LostStrizh and Tchibis (see below) were patrol boats ordered for the Imperial Russian Navy, but due to the Russian Revolution the vessels were never delivered to the original customer. The ships were sold to German interest together with two other ships of similar design and briefly registered under Norwegian flag as well as given Norwegian names. The German owner sold the four vessels to the Chilean Navy. The ships arrived in Chile in October 1920 after having been converted to minelayers at J. Samuel White shipyard in the United Kingdom.

Colo Colo was sold and renamed Toqui in 1930. She sank in a storm on 25 February 1944 off Huasco. The wreck was broken up in 1957.

Saukko 1930 Submarine 241Broken upIn service in the Finnish Navy before and during World War II, Saukko was one of the smallest submarines in the world with a displacement of around 100 tonnes. Saukko, the only submarine of her kind, participated in both the Winter War and the Continuation War. 1944Tugboat298Museum shipTurso was delivered to the Port of Helsinki in 1944. However, in 1945 she was handed over to the Soviet Union as part of the war reparations and renamed Taifun. The tugboat was stationed in Leningrad (later St. Petersburg), where she assisted ships and broke ice dams in the Neva River for more than five decades. In the early 2000s, a group of Finnish enthusiastics and businessmen, including Aatos Erkko, purchased the last remaining war reparations vessel and brought her back to Finland. The ship, still largely in original condition, was given back her old name and she has been undergoing extensive restoration for years. In 2011, Turso visited St. Petersburg under her own steam. The Krasin is a Russian icebreaker. The vessel operates in polar regions.

Vuosaari shipyard was a shipyard located in the district of Vuosaari in Helsinki, Finland. Built by the Finnish state-owned company Valmet Oy in the early 1970s, the shipyard delivered 33 newbuildings and participated in building around 100 other vessels before it was closed in 1987 following the bankruptcy of Wärtsilä Marine. Later, the longest dry dock in Finland was used by various ship repair companies until the construction of the new Vuosaari harbour cut the connection to the sea in 2004. Despite various plans to re-use the old dry dock, now located inside the harbour perimeter, it remained without use until the basin was backfilled in 2015–2016.

<i>Admiral Makarov</i> (icebreaker)

Admiral Makarov is a Russian icebreaker operated by the Far East Shipping Company (FESCO). Completed in 1975, she is FESCO's oldest icebreaker. Admiral Makarov and her sister ship Krasin (1976), are the largest of the four icebreakers in FESCO's fleet. She is named after the Imperial Russian Navy Admiral Stepan Makarov and was one of two icebreakers involved in Operation Breakthrough, an international effort to free three gray whales from pack ice in the Beaufort Sea near Point Barrow in the U.S. state of Alaska in 1988.

<i>AIDAbella</i> Cruise ship

AIDAbella is a cruise ship operated by AIDA Cruises. Built at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, she is a sister ship to AIDAdiva and AIDAluna. The ship has a passenger capacity of over 2,050. The name AIDAbella was chosen after a competition to name the new ship. The name was meant to signify how beautiful the ship is.

MT <i>Indiga</i> Russian ice-strengthened tanker

MT Indiga was an ice-strengthened product tanker that sailed under the Finnish flag in 1976–2003 and under the Russian flag in 2003–2021. After her modernization in 1994 she became the second merchant ship, after her sister ship Varzuga, to be equipped with an electric azimuth thruster called Azipod.

MT Varzuga was an ice-strengthened product tanker that sailed under the Finnish flag in 1977–2003 and under the Russian flag in 2003–2021. After her modernization in 1993, she became the first merchant ship to be equipped with Azipod, an electric azimuthing propulsion unit developed in Finland in the late 1980s. She was also the first non-Soviet ship to transit the Northern Sea Route.

SA-15 (ship type) Class of ice-breaking cargo ships

SA-15 is the project name for a series of icebreaking multipurpose cargo ships built in Finland for the Soviet Union in the 1980s. The ships, capable of independent operation in all prevailing arctic ice conditions, were the first merchant vessels designed for year-round operations in the Northern Sea Route. For this purpose they have hulls that resemble those of polar icebreakers and propulsion systems capable of withstanding ice loads.

Aleksey Chirikov is a Russian icebreaking platform supply and standby vessel owned by Sovcomflot. She and her sister ship, Vitus Bering, were ordered on 16 December 2010 from Arctech Helsinki Shipyard in Helsinki, Finland, shortly after the joint venture agreement between STX Finland Cruise Oy and United Shipbuilding Corporation had been signed. Aleksey Chirikov was delivered on 19 April 2013. She will be used in the Arkutun-Dagi offshore oil field in the Sea of Okhotsk.

<i>Baltika</i> (icebreaker) Russian icebreaker with asymmetric hull

Baltika is a Russian icebreaker built by Arctech Helsinki Shipyard in Helsinki, Finland. She is the first ship ever built with an asymmetric hull that allows her to operate not only ahead and astern, but also obliquely (sideways) with a large angle of attack. In this way, the relatively small oblique icebreaker is capable of opening a wide channel in ice for large merchant ships.

Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex is a Russian shipbuilding company that operates the country's largest shipyard in the town of Bolshoy Kamen in the Russian Far East. Established in 2015 by a consortium of investors led by the Russian oil company Rosneft, the company has since attracted a large number of orders for oil tankers, LNG carriers and icebreakers.

HMC <i>Protector</i> UK Border Force Telkkä-class Customs Cutter

HMC Protector is a Border Force (customs) cutter of the United Kingdom, formerly the Tavi of the Finnish Border Guard. She was built by Uki Workboat in Finland and was acquired by the UK Border Force in 2013. After a period of refit, the vessel was commissioned by the then Home Secretary Theresa May on 17 March 2014. Protector replaced HMC Sentinel, which was retired in 2013.
