In spite of the number of casualties on the side of the FARC, in the attack they depleted the ammunition of the garrison of the army that was in the base and had to surrender. February 26Shooting39 Amazonas State, Brazil FARC guerrillas assaulted the Solimoes post in the remote region of the Traira river near the border with Colombia. March 20Shooting, Kidnapping359 Antioquia Department, Colombia At San Jose de Nus, near Cabañas Station, located in Caracolí, a group of ELN guerrillas stops a train and kidnaps 42 recruits from the National Army. May 21 Suicide bombing, assassination 15 (+1)43 Sriperumbudur, India Assassination of Rajiv Gandhi Former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi assassinated in a bomb blast believed to be the work of Sri Lankan Tamil terrorists belonging to the LTTE. May 31Bombing314Northern Ireland, United Kingdom Glenanne barracks bombing The Provisional IRA launched a large truck bomb attack on a British Army (Ulster Defence Regiment) base in County Armagh. Three soldiers were killed; ten soldiers and four civilians were wounded. The blast left a deep crater and it could be heard over 30 miles away. Meanwhile, in Barranco Colorado, on the banks of the Ariari River, between the towns of Puerto Lleras and San José del Guaviare, guerrillas from front 1 of the FARC ambushed a patrol of the Marine Corps and killed 8 soldiers. The Eastern Bloc of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, from September 2010 known as Bloque Comandante Jorge Briceño, in honour of the slain guerrilla leader, was considered to be the strongest military faction of the guerrilla group. It was divided into groups of 50–400 combatants in each group, which patrolled and controlled different areas of Colombia's Eastern and Central-Eastern territory, as well as helped to carry out the killings, taxation, and arrests necessary to advance the organization's financial and political goals.

The Middle Magdalena Bloc of the FARC-EP was a FARC-EP bloc, notable for its involvement in the conflict with the AUC until the latter's demobilization in 2004. After that, it became one of the Colombian army's biggest worries as FARC started once again to gain control over the territory.

Bernardo Jaramillo Ossa was a Colombian politician and member of the Colombian Communist Party. Jaramillo started working primarily in the Urabá Antioquia region until 1987 when he assumed the presidency of the Patriotic Union Party (UP) after the assassination of Jaime Pardo.

Gustavo de Jesús Gaviria Rivero was a Colombian drug trafficker. As Pablo Escobar's cousin and right-hand man, Gaviria controlled the Medellín cartel's finances and trade routes. He and Escobar had collaborated in their criminal careers since the early 1970s.

The Our Lady of Lebanon Procathedral also called Catholic Maronite Cathedral of Bogotá or Church of Our Lady of Lebanon And alternatively Church of Santa Clara de Assís is the name that receives a temple that belongs to the Catholic Church that is located in the Carrera 8A N ° 98–31 to the north of the city of Bogotá the capital of the South American country of Colombia. The congregation uses the Maronite rite in full communion with the Holy See in Rome.
