Lowerhouse Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at The Brooks Foundation Ground on Liverpool Road in Burnley.

In recent years the club has been very successful, winning the league in 2011, 2012 and 2014, the Worsley Cup in 2004, 2012, 2018, 2021 & 2024. and the Twenty20 Cup in 2013. The club won the league for the first time in 2005, captained by Joe Beneduce, having won the cup for the first time the year before, captained by Matt Hope. [1] It has employed professionals including Matthew Mott, Ryan Harris, Martin van Jaarsveld, Jacques Rudolph, and Peter Fulton. [2]

For the 2022 season the captain is Benjamin Heap, [3] and the professional is Stephen Parry. [4]

History

A team called Lowerhouse played on a field near the former Griffin Hotel on Rossendale Road between 1855 and 1861. When it was dissolved, three new teams were founded. However in 1863, the three teams merged again to re-form Lowerhouse Cricket Club. For many years they were still known as the Garibaldians, after one of the teams started in 1862. When in 1874, the club employed Gibson Price as the professional, he also worked as the groundsman. By 1890, the club's finances had improved to a point that two professionals were employed. The membership rose from 93 in 1882, to 570 in 1915. [5]

Church and Oswaldtwistle Cricket Club, based at Oswaldtwistle, Accrington, is a cricket club in the Lancashire League. They play at the West End Ground on Blackburn Road in Oswaldtwistle. Their captain for the 2024 season is Josh Scully and their professional is Pakistan Zain Abbas.

Colne Cricket Club is a cricket club who play in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at The Horsfield in Colne. For the 2023 season, their club captain is Tom Bradshaw, their 2nd XI captain is Martin Kegg, their 3rd XI captain is Thomas Ellacott and their T20 captain is also Tom Bradshaw. Their professional is Geeth Kumara of Sri Lanka. The club has won the league on five occasions and won the cup six times, achieving a league and cup double in 1959. It has employed professionals including Amar Singh, Bill Alley, Joe Scuderi and Collis King.

East Lancashire Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at Alexandra Meadows in Blackburn. For the 2024 season its captain is James Westhead and its professional is Adithya Siriwardhana. The club has been very successful, winning the League on 14 occasions, the Worsley Cup on 18, the Inter League Club Challenge Trophy twice in its ten-year history, and has won a greater percentage of its games than any other club. It has employed professionals including Fazal Mahmood, Allan Border and Paul Reiffel.

Enfield Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at Dill Hall Lane in Accrington. The club has won the league on 5 occasions and the cup on 4. It has employed professionals including Clyde Walcott, Sylvester Clarke and Damien Fleming.

Haslingden Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at Bentgate in Haslingden. For the 2020 and 2021 seasons its captain is Jordan Shannon. For the first time post war, the club did not employ a professional for the shortened 2020 season owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. The club has won the league on 12 occasions and the cup on 5. It has employed professionals including George Headley, Clive Lloyd and Dennis Lillee. Another notable professional was West Indian opening batsman Phil Simmons. Ian Austin went on to have a successful career with Lancashire and England. Played for Haslingden as both an amateur and professional having started his career at Haslingden as a junior.

Ramsbottom Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at Acre Bottom in Ramsbottom. The club has won the league on four occasions and won the cup 6 times, including two victories in consecutive years in 2001 and 2002. It has employed professionals including Wasim Raja, Keith Arthurton and Brad Hodge.

Rawtenstall Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at the Worswick Memorial Ground in Rawtenstall. For the 2016 season its captain is Keith Roscoe the club was unable to get a professional as Brett Pelser, opted to leave to become professional at Horwich. The club recruited overseas amateur Nick Malio from Australia for the second half of the season. After a period of using substitute pro's including former pro Pelsner. The club has won the league on seven occasions and won the cup three times.
