The Madhya Pradesh School of Drama or MPSD, is a theatre training institute situated at Bhopal, India. [1] [2] [3] It is an autonomous organization under Ministry of Culture, Government of India. [4] [5] It was set up in 2011 [6] by the cabinet of Madhya Pradesh. [7] [8] [9]

Contents

The drama school established by government of MP for the practice of systematic training, ultra modern aspects of performances, documentation, maintain a museum, research, library works of traditional, classical and modern theater under the guidance of many eminent theater personalities in the country. [10]

Training methods

Comprehensive knowledge of different aspects of theater training and practice which also includes a host of traditional theater forms such as classical theater, [11] folk and tribal traditions particularly famous local theaters of Madhya Pradesh. [12] [13]

Guest lecturers

Several theatre and film personalities visit the Madhya Pradesh School of Drama as guest lecturers for master classes. Indian theatre directors and actors like Raghubir Yadav, [14] [15] Om Puri, [16] [15] Govind Namdev, [17] [15] Atul Tiwari, [15] Piyush Mishra, [18] [15] Uttara Baokar, [19] [15] Alok Chatterjee [15] have conducted Workshops and interactive session at the Drama school. [15]

Bansi Kaul was an Indian theatre director and the founder of Rang Vidushak, a theatre group in Bhopal. He was a recipient of the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honor, in 2014, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1995. Some of his notable plays included Aala Afsar, Kahan Kabir, and Sidhi Dar Sidhi urf Tukke pe Tukka. He was a designer and associate show director for the 2010 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony and also the art director for the 1986 and 1987 Khajuraho Festival.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mannu Bhandari</span> Indian writer (1931–2021)

Mannu Bhandari was an Indian author, screenplay writer, teacher, and playwright. Primarily known for her two Hindi novels, Aap Ka Bunty and Mahabhoj (Feast), Bhandari also wrote over 150 short stories, several other novels, screenplays for television and film, and adaptations for theater. She was a pioneer of the Nayi Kahani movement in Hindi literature, which focused on the aspirations of the emerging Indian middle class, and her own work is notable for its depiction of the inner lives of middle class working and educated women. Her work tackles themes of family, relationships, gender equality, and caste discrimination in India.

The Gundecha Brothers are Indian classical singers of the dhrupad genre of the Dagar vani. From 1985 to 2019 the duo consisted of brothers Umakant Gundecha and Ramakant Gundecha and were awarded the Padma Shri for art for 2012. Following the death of Ramakant Gundecha in 2019, his son Anant began to perform with Umakant in the Gundecha bandhu.

JD is an Indian Hindi-language legal drama film written, directed by Shailendra Pandey and produced by Anju Pandey & Shailendra Pandey. The film is based on the life of an Indian journalist. The news portal "First Post" compared the story to Tarun Tejpal, editor-in-chief, involved in a Tehelka Magazine sexual assault case. The film was released on 22 September 2017. He has been teaching at NSD and Pune based FTII. He also taught acting in the institute of Anupam Kher, Actor Prepress in Mumbai. At present, Chatterjee, in Madhya Pradesh Natya Vidyalaya Bhopal, is known for his vast range of acting (teaching) with deep literary understanding. He is a gold medalist from the National School of Drama, Delhi for best acting. At present Alok Chatterjee does theatre in his hometown at Bhopal. He also awarded with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2019 by the president of India Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

The Rashtriya Kumar Gandharva Samman was established by the government of Madhya Pradesh in 1992 as an annual national honour presented to outstanding talent in the field of music. The award is named after Pandit Kumar Gandharva, an Indian classical singer of national and international repute.

Ramrajya is a Hindi political drama film produced under the banner of Li Helios films. Actress Rakul Preet Singh's brother, Aman Preet, made his Bollywood debut with this movie. Punjabi actress Shobita Rana also doing her debut with Ramrajya. The renowned actor Govind Namdev can be seen as playing Aman's Guru. The songs are sung by famous singer Kailash Kher, Raja Hasan and Gul Saxena.

Pushyamitra Bhargav is an Indian politician, lawyer and social activist from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is currently serving as the 24th Mayor of Indore following a successful run against Sanjay Shukla during the 2022 Indore mayoral election.
