Maharashtra State Election Commission is an independent agency of Government of Maharashtra established on 26 April 1994. It conducts rural and urban local body elections in the state of Maharashtra. [1]

Shri Dr. D. N. chaudhari was the first election commissioner of maharashtra from 26 April 1994 to 25 April 1999. after him, Y.L. Rajvade, Shri Nandlal, Nila satyanarayan, Jogeshwar sahariya, and now U p s madan.

The Swatantra Bharat Paksh is a liberal political party in Maharashtra, India, established in 1994 by Sharad Anantrao Joshi. It claims its roots in the Swatantra Party of C. Rajagopalachari. It won one seat in the 2004 Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha election, successfully contested by Wamanrao Chatap from the Rajura constituency. In total, the party had launched 7 candidates. Sharad Anantrao Joshi, the party's founder, represented the party and Maharasthra in the Rajya Sabha from 2004 to 2010.

Bhikajirao Jijaba Khatal-Patil, popularly known as Dada or Khatal Saheb was an Indian politician. He was a senior Maharashtra leader and a veteran Congressman. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra for over 20 years, also holding various Cabinet ministries in the Maharashtra Government. He represented the Sangamner constituency of Maharashtra and was a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. In 1985 he retired from politics. Nileema Mishra is a social worker from the Indian state of Maharashtra. She received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership in 2011. Nileema was born into a lower-middle-class family in 1972 in the village of Bahadarpur Taluka Parola, Maharashtra, District- Jalgaon, Maharashtra. She is a postgraduate in psychology from the University of Pune. After her education, she worked with Vigyan Ashram, Pabal under the guidance of Dr Kalbagh. She registered Bhagini Nivedita Gramin Vigyan Niketan formally in the year 2005 with the help of Dr Jagannath Wani. Nileema has association with Caring Friends, Mumbai and Let's Dream foundation, Delhi. She donated her award money to her Bhagini Nivedita Gramin Vigyan Niketan, which helps poor women through micro-financing. She was awarded Padma Shri in 2013 for social work.

Keshavrao Sonawane (1925–2006) was an Indian politician, who served four terms in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, and was a Co-operative minister in Yashwantrao Chavan's cabinet and later Vasantrao Naik's cabinet during 1962–1967. He was elected as Member of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for 4 times, twice from Latur constituency and twice from Ausa constituency.

Balmohan Vidyamandir was founded on June 3, 1940, by Late Shri. S.D.Rege alias “Dada” as he was fondly known amongst his students, parents and the community, was a teacher par excellence. The School was named “Balmohan Vidyamandir”. “Balmohan” being coined from the names of Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak and Mahatma Gandhi and “Vidyamandir” meaning a temple of learning. Today, the name “Balmohan Vidyamandir” is synonymous with being the leading cultural and educational hub of the State of Maharashtra, India.

Balasaheb Shivram Bharde (1912–2006), also known as Trimbak, was an Indian independence activist, social worker, educationist and the speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He was known for his contributions to the cooperative movement in Maharashtra as the Minister of Co-operation (1957–1962). He was associated with several social and government organizations such as Khadi Gramodhyog, Harijan Sevak Sangh and Maharashtra Gandhi Smarak Nidhi (MGSN) and served as the chairman of the first named and as the second president of the MGS Nidhi. He also chaired the Maharashtra State Khadi Board.

Rajya Sabha elections were held on various dates in 2006, to elect members of the Rajya Sabha, Indian Parliament's upper chamber. The elections were held to elect respectively one member from Sikkim, 58 members from 15 states, two members from Jharkhand, and three members from Kerala, for the Council of States, the Rajya Sabha.
