The Maltese entry for the 2006 contest in Athens, Greece was selected through the national final Malta Song for Europe 2006, organised by the Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS). The competition consisted of a final, held on 4 February 2006, where "I Do" performed by Fabrizio Faniello eventually emerged as the winning entry after gaining 12% of the public televote.

"Dincolo de nori" is a song recorded by Romanian singer Dan Bittman at the Magic Sound Production in Craiova and was released as a CD single in 1994 by Metro Records Romania. "Dincolo de nori" was written by Antonio Furtuna and Bittman and produced solely by Furtuna, featuring a bass guitar, harmonica and keyboards in its instrumentation.

Chris & Moira were a Maltese duo, formed by Moira Stafrace and Christopher Scicluna. They were best known for representing Malta in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest.
The Netherlands was represented by Willeke Alberti, with the song "Waar is de zon", at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Dublin on 30 May. The song was chosen at the Dutch national final on 26 March.
Norway was represented by Elisabeth Andreassen and Jan Werner Danielsen, with the song "Duett", at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 30 April in Dublin. "Duett" was chosen as the Norwegian entry at the Melodi Grand Prix on 26 March, making it the third of four Eurovision appearances by Andreasson.
Hungary was represented by Friderika Bayer, with the song "Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet?", at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 30 April in Dublin. "Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet?" was chosen as the Hungarian entry at the national final on 5 February. This was Hungary's first appearance in a Eurovision final after their debut entry failed to progress from the pre-qualifier Kvalifikacija za Millstreet in 1993.
Hungary was represented by boyband V.I.P., with the song "Miért kell, hogy elmenj?", at the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 3 May in Dublin. "Miért kell, hogy elmenj?" was chosen as the Hungarian entry at the national final on 28 February.
Norway was represented by 15-year-old Hanne Krogh, with the song "Lykken er", at the 1971 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 3 April in Dublin. "Lykken er" was chosen as the Norwegian entry at the Melodi Grand Prix on 20 February.
Croatia selected its entry for the 1995 Eurovision Song Contest through the "Dora 1995" contest, which was held on 12 March 1995, organised by the Croatian national broadcaster Hrvatska radiotelevizija (HRT) in Opatija. The winners were Magazin and Lidija with "Nostalgija".

Because of low points received in 1993, Turkey was unable to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994. Next year in Eurovision Song Contest 1995. Turkey was represented by Arzu Ece with the song "Sev" written by Zeynep Talu and composed by Melih Kibar.
Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 in Dublin, Ireland. Alma and Dejan represented Bosnia and Herzegovina with the song "Ostani kraj mene".
Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 in Dublin, Ireland. Davorin Popović represented Bosnia and Herzegovina with the song "Dvadeset prvi vijek". They finished on 19th place out of 23 countries with 14 points.
Cyprus was present at the Eurovision Song Contest 1994. It was represented with the song "Eimai anthropos ki ego", performed by Evridiki. It finished 11th with 51 points.
Iceland was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 by Sigga with the song "Nætur".
Israel entered the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 with the song "Amen" by Liora after she won the Israeli national final.
