Manish Mehrotra is one of the India's highly esteemed chef, widely recognized as one of the most dynamic figures in modern Indian cuisine globally. Serving as the Culinary Director of Indian Accent Restaurants located in Delhi, Mumbai, and New York, as well as at Comorin in Gurugram, Mehrotra has garnered acclaim for his innovative approach to Indian gastronomy.
Manish is credited with creating an innovative cuisine combining authentic Indian flavours with pan- Asian and Western techniques and ingredients.

Manish started his career in Mumbai as part of Ananda Solomon’s team at the Thai Pavilion of the Taj Group of Hotels. He joined Old World Hospitality in 2000 where he soon turned Oriental Octopus at Delhi’s Habitat World, India Habitat Centre, into the place to be seen at. He has spent over two decades with the company opening several restaurants while travelling the world and honing his culinary skills.
Manish travels extensively between the three Indian Accent restaurants and for events across the world. Manish is passionate about his craft and his knowledge of ingredients, their origins and the food and beverage world is formidable. Inspired by Chef Rick Stein because he prepares ‘out-of-the-world recipes which, though not fancy, are delicious’, Manish is an inspiration to aspiring young chefs today.
He is the author of Indian Accent Restaurant Cookbook. Two editions of the coffee table book were published by Penguin Books. More recently the paperback version has been published by Hachette Books.
Manish is an avid reader of cookbooks and owns over 1500 cookbooks. He has acted in films and is one of the most sought after celebrity chefs for TV shows, TED Talks, Cooking Demonstrations, Chef Interactions, etc.
Manish lives in New Delhi with his mother and his daughter, Adah who hopes to be a chef herself, one day.
Mehrotra was born in Patna, Bihar in 1974. He spent most of his childhood in a completely vegetarian household. The family didn’t even consume onion and garlic.
Manish did his schooling from St. Xavier's High School, Patna where he was the President of the Student Council. After his high school from New Era Public School, New Delhi, he moved to Mumbai to study Hotel Management from Institute of Hotel Management, Mumbai.
Deciding to opt for hotel management was a conscious decision for Mehrotra and during the course he developed an extreme liking for food production. This is when he realized that a kitchen is the most innovative place and that is exactly where he wants to be.
After completing his college in 1996, Manish Mehrotra joined the prestigious Taj Group of Hotels as a Hotel Operations - Management Trainee. He was posted at the Thai Pavilion restaurant where he worked under the guidance of Chef Ananda Solomon at the President Hotel in Mumbai. This is where he mastered the art of Pan-Asian cuisine in the span of four years.
Soon after, in the year 2000, Mehrotra moved back from Mumbai to Delhi and joined Old World Hospitality which at that time managed the hospitality facilities at Habitat World, India Habitat Centre. He was posted at Oriental Octopus, a Members’ only restaurant at Habitat World. Within a span of six months, he became the Chef In-charge of the restaurant.
During his time at the Oriental Octopus, Mehrotra travelled the South Asian region extensively and visited countries including China, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore where he mastered his skills and learned extensively about South East Asian cuisine.
In 2006, Mehrotra moved to London and opened a Pan Asian restaurant for Old World Hospitality to rave reviews. He spent three years in UK and came back to India.
In the year 2009, Mehrotra’s career took a turn as he changed his path and started experimenting with Indian cuisine. This change of events turned in his favour and established him as the pioneer of ‘Modern Indian Cuisine’. In March 2009, he became the founding chef of Indian Accent at The Manor Hotel, New Delhi Indian Accent, an Old World Hospitality concept, offers an inventive approach to Indian cuisine. The original restaurant in New Delhi opened in 2009 to significant acclaim for its path breaking approach to contemporary Indian food. The menu explores progressive ideas in Indian cuisine while maintaining traditional integrity. Mehrotra reinterprets nostalgic Indian dishes with openness towards global techniques and influences.
Indian Accent in New York opened in 2016 to critical and popular acclaim, including being ranked among the Best Restaurants of the year by several media outlets including Zagat, Time Out, Eater, The Village Voice and Thrillist.
In 2018, Mehrotra designed a menu of comfort dishes and unusual food combinations from across the country for Old World Hospitality’s (now a group company of EHV International) Comorin, Gurugram. The restaurant won several awards and is currently amongst the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Fourteen years after the Delhi outpost, Indian Accent opened in Mumbai in 2023 at NMACC. For the new branch, Mehrotra re-created an elaborate and unique menu keeping in mind the Mumbaikar’s palette. Indian Accent in New Delhi has won several awards and global recognition, including being on the World’s 50 Best list from 2015 to 2023. It has been awarded the San Pellegrino Best Restaurant in India on Asia’s 50 Best list from 2015 to 2022. It has also been rated the No.1 Restaurant in India by Trip Advisor for several consecutive years. It is also part of the Time Magazine, 100 Great Destinations in the World.
Manish himself has won several awards during his career.
Manish Mehrotra met his wife Vindhya who was also a chef, back in the day when he was working for the Taj Group of Hotels. Although the two were working in different kitchens, destiny brought them together. They got married in 1999. Unfortunately, Vindhya passed away due to cancer in 2020.
Mehrotra currently lives in New Delhi with his mother and daughter. He enjoys watching movies, cricket matches and cooking for his daughter, Adah, who is a foodie and loves prawns.
Apart from being a path breaking chef and Culinary Director of Indian Accent, Mehrotra is a notable Television personality as well. As a child artist, Mehrotra has acted in the 1983 film ‘Doosri Dulhan’ that stars Shabana Azmi, Sharmila Tagore and Victor Banerjee in lead roles. Apart from this, Mehrotra also played a part in the 1984 film “Apna Bhi Koi Hota”.
Mehrotra is also a well-known TV personality who lifted the trophy of ‘Foodistan’ a reality cooking show by NDTV Good Times.

Manish Mehrotra is the author of ‘Indian Accent Restaurant Cookbook’, which was published by Penguin Books.
The Coffee Table book has pictures by ace photographer Rohit Chawla. The book was launched on January 21, 2016 at the prestigious Jaipur Literature Festival by Shobhaa De. Two editions of the book have already been published.
In 2023, the paperback version of the Indian Accent Restaurant Cookbook was published by Hachette Books.

Tandoori chicken is a dish made from chicken marinated in yogurt and spices and roasted in a tandoor, a cylindrical clay oven. The dish is now popular worldwide. The modern form of the dish was popularized by the Moti Mahal restaurant in New Delhi, India in the late 1940s.
Vir Sanghvi is an Indian print and television journalist, author, columnist and talk show host. He has been a member of many professional, academic and government bodies including the National Integration Council. Currently, he is a member of the Broadcast Content Complaint Council (BCCC), a body that regulates content on entertainment TV channels and Co-Founder/Lead Food Critic at EazyDiner. He is an opponent of the Hindutva ideology.
Sanjeev Kapoor is an Indian chef, television presenter, and entrepreneur. He began his career in the hospitality industry in 1984 after completing the Diploma in Hotel Management from the Institute of Hotel Management Catering & Nutrition, Pusa, New Delhi.
Dal makhani is a dish originating in Punjab region. A relatively modern variation of traditional lentil dishes, it is made with urad dal and other pulses, and includes butter and cream.
Moti Mahal is a restaurant chain founded in Delhi, India. Founded after the partition of India in 1947, the Moti Mahal in Delhi was founded by Kundan Lal Gujral, Kundan Lal Jaggi and Thakur Das Magu as one of the first restaurants to introduce Punjabi cuisine and North Indian cuisine to the rest of the world such as tandoori chicken, paneer makhani, dal makhani, and butter chicken.
Shipra Khanna is an Indian celebrity chef, restaurateur, author and television personality. She is best known for, at the age of 29, winning the second season of the Indian television show MasterChef India (2012) which aired on Star Plus.
Foodistan is a television cooking game show. It is produced by BIG Synergy for NDTV Good Times and Geo Entertainment. The show puts India and Pakistan's best chefs against each other in a competition. While their individual cuisines are similar, there are differences between the two cuisines. The show aired 26 episodes. The finale was between Manish Mehrotra from India and Poppy Agha from Pakistan; Manish Mehrotra walked away with the title of Foodistan.
Ritu Dalmia is an Indian celebrity chef and restaurateur. She is the chef and co-owner of the popular Italian restaurant Diva in Delhi, which she established in 2000, with co-founder Gita Bhalla under partnership firm "Riga Food". Other restaurants of company include 'Latitude 28' and 'Cafe Diva'. Vikram Vij is an Indian-born Canadian chef, cookbook author, and television personality. He is the owner, of the Indian cuisine restaurants Vij's and Rangoli Restaurant in Vancouver, British Columbia. He also owns My Shanti, a restaurant in South Surrey, BC which he closed in 2024. In 2014, Vij was announced as a new "dragon" investor on the Canadian reality show Dragons' Den for its ninth season and departed at the end of the season.

Vivek Singh is an Indian celebrity chef, restaurateur, and media personality known for his Indian cuisine. Ranveer Singh Brar is an Indian celebrity chef, Masterchef India judge, author, restaurateur and actor. He is well known as the host of popular Television food shows, actor and as a judge in MasterChef India, alongside fellow chefs Sanjeev Kapoor, Vikas Khanna, Vineet Bhatia, Garima Arora and Pooja Dhingra After graduating from the top hospitality institute in Lucknow, Brar stepped into a successful culinary career, now spanning more than nearly three decades.
Gaggan Anand is an Indian chef and the owner and executive chef of the progressive Indian restaurant Gaggan in Bangkok, Thailand.
Colleen Taylor Sen is a Canadian–American translator and author specializing in Indian cuisine. She has written or co-edited eight books and many articles and has also contributed entries to encyclopedias. Sen has given lectures at DePaul University, Indiana University, the Smithsonian Institution, The Oxford Food Symposia, K.R. Cama Oriental Institute (Mumbai), The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, The Indian International Centre, The Institute of Hotel Management, and other institutions.
Imtiaz Qureshi was an Indian chef known for reviving the Dum Pukht cooking tradition and creating restaurant brands including Bukhara and Dum Pukht. He was a master chef at ITC Hotels, an Indian luxury hotel chain. Qureshi is credited with the popularization of Awadhi cuisine with some of his popular dishes including Dal Bukhara, Dum Pukht Biryani, Kakori Kebab, Warqi Paratha, and Garlic Kheer.
Indian Accent is a restaurant located at The Lodhi hotel in New Delhi, India. It was established in 2009 by Rohit Khattar. It has outposts in New York City and Mumbai.
Kundan Lal Jaggi was an Indian chef and restaurateur based in New Delhi. Kundan Lal Jaggi is the inventor of butter chicken, and dal makhani, paneer makhani and the founder of the Moti Mahal restaurant along with his partners Kundan Lal Gujral and Thakur Das Magu in 1947 in Daryaganj, Delhi.
Floyd Cardoz was an Indian-American chef. He owned the New York City eatery Paowalla and was executive chef at Tabla, as well as victor on Top Chef Masters Season 3 in 2011. His New York restaurants were known for food melding Indian flavours and spices with western cuisine.
Indigo was a restaurant founded by the Indian chef Rahul Akerkar in 1999 in Mumbai, India, which was in a restored colonial bungalow behind the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. The restaurant gained iconic status as it was one of the first standalone fine-dining restaurants in the country to serve quality European cuisine, while functioning independently outside the luxury hotels industry. It is credited with influencing the Indian restaurant industry in the country's post-liberalisation era. Vineet Bhatia is an Indian chef, restaurateur, author, and media personality. He was the first Indian chef to be awarded a Michelin star. He opened two Rasoi restaurants, the first in Chelsea, London in 2004, and the second in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2008. Both restaurants received Michelin stars, in 2006 and 2009 respectively, making Bhatia the first and only chef of Indian origin to receive two Michelin stars. Currently, he has eleven restaurants, including his signature restaurant "KAMA by Vineet" in the dining hall in Harrods in London, and appears as a judge on Netflix show The Final Table and judge-host on MasterChef India.
