Interpidity was a British-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. In a racing career which lasted from April 1993 to November 1994 the filly ran twelve times and won four races. Unraced as a two-year-old, Intrepidity proved to be the outstanding three-year-old filly in Europe in 1993, winning the Prix Saint-Alary and the Prix Vermeille in France and The Oaks in England. She also finished fourth in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, beaten one and a half lengths. At the end of the year she was voted European Champion Three-year-old Filly at the Cartier Racing Awards. Intrepidity was kept in training as a four-year-old, but failed to win, although she finished second in the Prix Ganay and the Prix Foy. She was then retired to stud where her record as a broodmare was disappointing.
Treve is a French Thoroughbred racehorse. After winning her only race as a two-year-old, she was unbeaten in four races in 2013, including the Prix de Diane, Prix Vermeille, and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. As a four-year-old, she was beaten in her first three races before winning the Arc for a second time.
Argument was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In his early racing career he showed consistent form and was placed in several important races, but showed marked improvement in the autumn of 1980. He was considered an unlucky loser when narrowly beaten in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and then traveled to the United States where he won the Washington, D.C. International Stakes. At the end of the year he was officially the best racehorse trained in France. In the following spring he won the Prix d'Harcourt and Prix Ganay but his form deteriorated thereafter and he was beaten in his remaining six races. He made no impact as a sire of winners.
Polytain was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Unraced as a juvenile, he won his first two races and then finished third before finishing third in the Prix La Force and then recording an upset win in the Prix du Jockey Club. His subsequent form was disappointing as he failed to win in his remaining nine races. He made no impact as a breeding stallion.
Le Havre is an Irish-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Bred in Ireland by his French-based breeders he was bought for €100,000 as a yearling and trained in the South-West of France by Jean-Claude Rouget. As a two-year-old, he showed promise in winning his first two races but finished unplaced when favourite for the Critérium International. He began his second season with an upset win over the favoured Naaqoos in the Prix Djebel and then finished second in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains before recording his biggest win in the Prix du Jockey Club. In the latter race, he sustained serious injuries which led to his retirement shortly afterwards. As a breeding stallion, he made an immediate impact, siring several major winners.
Tanerko was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He was unraced as a two-year-old but established himself as one of the best colts of his generation in Europe in 1956 by winning the Prix Juigné, Prix Noailles, Prix Lupin and Prix du Prince d'Orange as well as finishing third to Ribot in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He remained in training in 1957, winning the Prix du Prince d'Orange and recording other important victories in the Prix Ganay and the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. He was as good as ever in a five-year-old, taking the Prix d'Harcourt and repeating his 1957 wins in the Prix Ganay and the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. Tanerko was then retired to stud and had considerable success as a sire of winners.
Boreal is a German Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a racing career which lasted from March 2001 until March 2003, he ran fourteen times in four countries and won three races, two of them at Group One level. Unraced as a two-year-old, he won one minor race in his first four starts before winning the Deutsches Derby. In the following year, he was campaigned internationally and became the first German-trained horse in 27 years to record a Group One victory in the United Kingdom when he won the Coronation Cup. Apart from his successes, he was placed in several major races, including the Credit Suisse Pokal, Grosser Preis von Baden and Dubai Sheema Classic. He was retired from racing to become a breeding stallion but had very little success as a sire of winners.
Sunshack is a British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire who was trained in France and the United States. He showed very good form as a two-year-old in 1993 when he won two of his four races including the Critérium de Saint-Cloud. In the following year he struggled for form before ending his season with a win in the Prix du Conseil de Paris. He reached his peak as a four-year-old in 1995 when he won the Prix Jean de Chaudenay, defeated a world-class field in the Coronation Cup and then stepped up in distance to take the Prix Royal-Oak. His later career was limited by injury and he failed to win again. He stood as a breeding stallion in Japan and France with very little success.
Apple Tree is a French Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. During a racing career which lasted from September 1991 until October 1995 he competed in France, Germany, England, the United States and Japan, winning seven of his twenty-six races. After showing promise as a two-year-old he won the Prix Greffulhe and the Preis von Europa in 1992. As a four-year-old he ran prominently in several major races before winning the Prix du Prince d'Orange and the Turf Classic. He reached his peak as a five-year-old in 1994 when he defeated top-class international fields in the Coronation Cup and the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. After his retirement from racing he stood as a breeding stallion with limited success.
Saint Estephe was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Unraced as a juvenile he proved himself to be a high-class middle-distance performer in 1985 when he won the Prix Maurice de Nieuil and was placed in the Prix Hocquart, Prix du Lys, Prix Niel and Prix du Conseil de Paris. In the following year he was better than ever, winning the Prix d'Harcourt and finishing third in the Prix Ganay before recording his greatest success in the Coronation Cup. He went on to finish second in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and the Prix du Prince d'Orange before sustaining an injury in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He was retired to stud in France and had some success as a breeding stallion before dying at the age of sixteen in 1998.
Maxios is a British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He showed great promise as a juvenile in 2010 when he was unbeaten in two races including the Group 3 Prix Thomas Bryon but in the following year he failed to win or place in four starts. In 2012 he showed improvement, winning two minor races in spring and then taking La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte in September. He reached his peak as a five-year-old in 2013 when he won the Prix d'Harcourt and went on to record Group 1 victories in the Prix d'Ispahan and the Prix du Moulin. At the end of the year he was retired from racing to become a breeding stallion in Germany.
Valanour was an Irish-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He did not race as a juvenile but as a three-year-old in 1995 he was one of the best colts of his generation in France, winning three races including the Prix de Guiche and the Grand Prix de Paris. In the following spring he won the Prix d'Harcourt and the Prix Ganay but was unplaced in his last two races and was retired at the end of the year with a record of five wins from nine starts. He had limited success as a breeding stallion and died in 2018.
Waldgeist is a British-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He has raced in six countries, namely France, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States and Hong Kong. He showed top-class form as a two-year-old in 2016 when he won two of his three races including the Group 1 Critérium de Saint-Cloud. He failed to win in the following year but ran second in the Prix du Jockey Club and fourth in the Irish Derby. In 2018 he won four consecutive races, namely the Prix d'Hédouville, Grand Prix de Chantilly, Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and Prix Foy. In 2019 he won a third Group 1 race when he took the Prix Ganay and recorded his biggest win in October when he took the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
Ghaiyyath is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He showed very promising form as a juvenile in 2017 when he won two of his three races including the Autumn Stakes. Training problems restricted him to only one start in 2018, a victory in the Prix du Prince d'Orange. In the spring of 2019 he won the Prix d'Harcourt and ran third in the Prix Ganay before returning in autumn to win the Grosser Preis von Baden by fourteen lengths. In 2020 he added victories in the Dubai Millennium Stakes, Coronation Cup, Eclipse Stakes and International Stakes.
Sottsass is a French Thoroughbred racehorse. In a career which ran from August 2018 to October 2020 he ran nine times and won five races, including three at the highest Group One level. He showed promise as a two-year-old in 2018 when he won the second of his two starts. In the following year he was beaten on his seasonal debut but then developed into a top-class middle distance performer with wins in the Prix de Suresnes, Prix du Jockey Club and Prix Niel. In his four-year-old season in 2020 he won the Prix Ganay before concluding his career by winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
The 2019 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe was a horse race held at Longchamp Racecourse on Sunday 6 October 2019. It was the 98th running of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. The race was won by Gestut Ammerland & Newsells Park's five-year-old horse Waldgeist, trained in France by André Fabre and ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot. It was a record-breaking eighth win in the race for Fabre after the victories of Trempolino, Subotica, Carnegie, Peintre Celebre, Sagamix, Hurricane Run and Rail Link. Both the owners and jockey were winning the race for the first time. Waldgeist became the first French-trained five-year-old to win the Arc since Le Paillon in 1947.
Alson is a German-bred Thoroughbred racehorse. He was one of the best German juveniles of 2019 when he won four of his six races including the Group 3 Zukunfts-Rennen and the Group 1 Critérium International as well as finishing second in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère. In the following year he ran second in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains and won the Prix Matchem.
Persian King is an Irish-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He showed very promising form as a two-year-old in 2018 when he won three of his four races including a very competitive edition of the Autumn Stakes. In the following year he won the Prix de Fontainebleau and Poule d'Essai des Poulains before finishing second in the Prix du Jockey Club. He reached his peak as a four-year-old in 2020 when he won the Prix du Muguet, Prix d'Ispahan and Prix du Moulin de Longchamp as well as running third in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
