Margaret Wanjiru [1] is a Kenyan politician and a Bishop at Jesus is Alive Ministries (JIAM).

Career and Political life

She is also popularly known as 'Mama Na Kazi'. She belongs to Jubilee Party after leaving ODM party [2] and was elected to represent the Starehe Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya since the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election. [3] In 2010-2013 she was appointed into the cabinet as an Assistantant Minister for Housing. [4]

She risked losing her parliamentary seat after a vote recount carried out in 2010 indicated that her opponent Maina Kamanda (PNU) won the election with a clear margin. [5] As a result, a by-election was held on September 20, 2010, but Wanjiru retained the seat beating Kamanda. [6]

Personal life

She has 3 children : Stephen Kariuki [7] (A politician who has served as a Kenyan member of parliament representing Mathare constituency ), Evans Kariuki [8] and Purity Kariuki. [9] She was diagnosed with COVID-19 pandemic on May 21, 2020, that put her in ICU at Nairobi Hospital.

The 2007–2008 Kenyan crisis was a violent political, economic, and humanitarian crisis that erupted in Kenya after former President Mwai Kibaki was declared the winner of the presidential election held on December 27, 2007. Supporters of Kibaki's main opponent in that election, Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Movement, alleged electoral manipulation. This position was widely confirmed by international observers, as being perpetrated by both parties in the election. The 10th Parliament of Kenya saw the National Assembly opened on 15 January 2008. This following the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of Raila Odinga winning a majority in the 2007 parliamentary elections. Raila was a candidate in the presidential elections, which resulted in a controversial victory for Mwai Kibaki of the Party of National Unity. The opening of the parliament was fraught with jeers, cheers and brawls between the opposing parties; Mwai Kibaki was greeted by the ODM members with silence and boos, while Raila was greeted by PNU members with accusations of genocide.

Kipkalya Kiprono Kones was a Kenyan politician who served as a minister during the 1990s and was briefly Minister of Roads in 2008. He was a member of the National Assembly of Kenya from 1988 to 2008.
