Marmathia is a fossil genus of plants in the family Lauraceae, that lived in the Late Cretaceous; fossil have been found in the Hell Creek Formation in North America. The genus includes the species M. pearsonii, M. johnsonii, and M. trivialis. [1] [2]
Marmathia measured 2.5 metres in height, in the largest estimates. It was discovered in 1996, from the Johnson. The species served as food for animals such as Edmontosaurus (Anatosaurus) and Ankylosaurus , scientists believe that it is one of the smallest plants of the Cretaceous period, second only to Woodwardia sp., which measures more or less 1.65 meters in height.
