Martyn John Woodroffe (born 8 September 1950 [1] ) is a Welsh swimmer.
He won a silver medal at the 1968 Olympic Games. [2]
Woodroffe was born in Cardiff, Wales. [3] He represented Wales at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica, and 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland, winning one silver and two bronze medals at the latter. [4]
In 1968 he represented Great Britain at the Olympics in Mexico City in five swimming disciplines - 100 m, 200 m butterfly, 200 m, 400 m individual medley, and in the 4×100 m medley relay. [1] He won the silver medal in the 200 m butterfly in a time of 2 minutes 9.0 seconds, behind Carl Robie of the United States.
At the ASA National British Championships he won the 110 yards butterfly title in 1968, 1969 and 1970, [5] [6] [7] the 220 yards butterfly title four times in 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1970 and the 1969 200 metres freestyle title. [8] He also won the 220 yards medley title in 1968, 1969 and 1970 and the 440 yards medley title in 1968, 1969 and 1970. [9] [10]
Woodroffe was awarded the BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year in 1968, and was admitted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
William Victor Mahony is a former breaststroke swimmer who represented Canada in multiple international championships from 1966 to 1974, including two Summer Olympics, the Pan American Games, and two Commonwealth Games.
Andrew David Jameson is an English sports commentator and former competitive swimmer. Active as an elite swimmer in the mid-to-late 1980s he represented Great Britain in two consecutive Summer Olympics, the FINA World Championships, LEN European Championships, as well as England in the Commonwealth Games. At his peak between 1986 and 1988 he won the gold medal in 100 metre butterfly at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, the 1987 European Aquatics Championships and the 1987 Summer Universiade, as well as the 100 metre freestyle gold at the same Universiade. Winning the bronze medal at the 1986 World Aquatics Championships, Jameson's career in the pool culminated in winning the bronze medal in the 1988 Summer Olympics, his second and final Olympic Games.
