Ziaur RahmanBU HJ HOR was a Bangladeshi military officer and politician who served as the sixth President of Bangladesh from 1977 until his assassination in 1981. One of the leading figures of country's independence war, he broadcast the Bangladeshi declaration of independence on March 1971 from Chittagong. He was the founder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He previously served as the third chief of army staff from 1975 to 1978 with a minor break.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is a major political party in Bangladesh. Founded on 1 September 1978 by Bangladeshi president Ziaur Rahman with a view of uniting people with a nationalist ideology, BNP later became one of the two dominant parties in Bangladesh, along with its archrival Awami League. Initially a big tent centrist party, it later moved towards more right-wing politics.
The National Awami Party (NAP), translated from Urdu to English as National People's Party, was the major left-wing political party in East and West Pakistan. It was founded in 1957 in Dhaka, erstwhile East Pakistan, by Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and Yar Mohammad Khan, through the merger of various leftist and progressive political groups in Pakistan. Commonly known as the NAP, it was a major opposition party to Pakistani military regimes for much of the late 1950s and mid-1960s. In 1967, the party split into two factions.
Shah Azizur Rahman was a Bangladeshi politician who served as the prime minister of Bangladesh. However, he was the subject of considerable controversy for his collaboration with the Pakistan Army against the struggle for the independence of Bangladesh.
Lt. Col. Abu Taher BU was a Bangladeshi military officer and war hero. He first served in the Pakistan Army, and later defected to the Bangladesh Army during the Bangladesh Liberation War. He crossed into India around early August and reported to the Indian authorities. After a week screening at Dehradun, India, Taher reported to Kolkata, Bangladesh Provincial government at 8 Theatre Rd. He was ordered to report to Sector 11 of Mukti Bahini under command of Major Ziaur Rahman, he became the sector commander after him. He served in BDF from end of August to 2 November 1971. He was awarded the medal Bir Uttom for his gallantry in the liberation war. He was released from military service by Indian military medical board in Pune, India after his leg was amputated. After independence, he was inducted into the Bangladesh Army for administrative retirement with legacy rank of lieutenant colonel. After settling in with family, the government of Bangladesh appointed him with employment at Kumilla. Later Taher turned into a political activist and leader of the left-wing Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal.

Muhammad Mansur Ali was a Bangladeshi politician who was a close confidant of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding leader of Bangladesh. A senior leader of the Awami League, Mansur also served briefly as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh in 1975 until he was assassinated while incarcerated on 3 November 1975.

The Proclamation of Bangladeshi Independence, refers to the declaration of independence of Bangladesh on 26 March 1971, at the onset of the Bangladesh Liberation War by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; the following day Major Ziaur Rahman declared independence on behalf of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra radio station in Kalurghat, Chattogram. On 10 April, the Provisional Government of Bangladesh issued a proclamation on the basis of the previous declaration and established an interim constitution for the independence movement.
Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, often shortened as Maulana Bhashani, was a Bengali politician. His political tenure spanned the British colonial India, Pakistan and Bangladesh periods. Maulana Bhashani was popularly known by the honorary title Mozlum Jananeta for his lifelong stance advocating for the poor. He gained nationwide mass popularity among the peasants and helped to build the East Pakistan Peasant Association. Owing to his political leaning to the left, often dubbed Islamic Socialism, he was also called 'The Red Maulana'. He is considered as one of the main pillars of Bangladeshi independence (1971).
Shawfikul Ghaani Swapan was a Bangladeshi politician and the chairman of the Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh NAP. During his political career, he served as a member of parliament twice, and held cabinet positions in both the Zia and Ershad governments. His positions included serving as the state minister of defence, state minister of youth and sports, minister of civil aviation and tourism, and minister of housing and public works.
The non-cooperation movement of 1971 was a historical movement in then East Pakistan by the Awami League and the general public against the military government of Pakistan in March of that year. After the announcement of the suspension of the session of the National Assembly of Pakistan on 1 March, the spontaneous movement of the people started, but officially on the call of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the non-cooperation movement started on 2 March and continued until 25 March. The movement lasted for a total of 25 days.

The Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh NAP is a political party in Bangladesh. The party traces its origins to a splinter group of the National Awami Party (Bhashani) led by Mashiur Rahman, who was popularly known as Jadu Mia. Jadu Mia's NAP faction had merged with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in the late 1970s. Jadu Mia's son Shafiqul Ghani Swapan refounded the Bangladesh National Awami Party in December 2006. Shafiqul Ghani Swapan died in 2009, after which Jebel Rahman Ghaani took over as party chairman.

Mashiur Rahman [a] (9[ citation needed ] July 1924 –12 March 1979),also known as Jadu Mia (Bengali :জাদুমিয়া, lit. 'Man of Magic'),was a senior minister,with the rank and status of prime minister in charge of the Ministry of Railways,Roads and Highways of Bangladesh from 29 June 1978 to 12 March 1979. [1] He was the founder of Bangladesh Jatyiotabadi Dal,the whole process of transition to multi-party democracy was his brainchild. He named the party and the election symbol was given to the party from his party NAP.
He also made the formal Declaration of Independence of Bangladesh from his party NAP (there were two major political parties in the then East Pakistan,one National Awami Party,NAP and Awami League),on the 23 March 1971,when Sheikh Mujib was still negotiating for the premiership of Pakistan with the military junta of Pakistan,not giving the formal declaration despite people's determination for a free,independent country.
Mashiur Rahman was born into nobility on 9[ citation needed ] July 1924,in Rangpur,British India (now Khaga Khari Bari village of Dimla Upazila of Nilphamari District,Bangladesh). [1] After passing his Entrance Examination from Rani Brindarani High School in Dimla,Rangpur,Mashiur Rahman would go on to pursue his higher education at Dhaka University. [2]
Mashiur Rahman was an elected member of National Assembly of Pakistan in 1962 and led the assembly as deputy leader of the opposition. He was arrested in 1963 for his involvement in the anti-government movement. Before the liberation war,in 1971,Mashiur Rahman formally declared Bangladesh's independence and called for forming an all-party government at a public gathering at Paltan Maidan on 23 March. He became Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani's deputy leader in the National Awami Party in the same period. [3]
After Bhashani died in 1976,Mashiur Rahman became the president of the Bhashani faction of the National Awami Party. And in 1978,when he joined the Jatiyotabadi Front (Nationalist Front) with a huge portion of the National Awami Party (Bhashani),the party was dissolved,and remained so until it was revived after almost three decades in 2006 by his eldest son,Shafiqul Ghani Swapan. [4] He was a founding convening committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and instrumental in the founding of the party. In the 1979 General Election,he ran and won in the Rangpur-1 seat becoming a Member of Parliament. Despite plans and Ziaur Rahman's wish to appoint him prime minister,following his sudden death on 12 March 1979,Shah Azizur Rahman was appointed to the office on 15 April 1979. [5] After the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975,the post of Prime Minister of Bangladesh was abolished.[ citation needed ] When Ziaur Rahman,who came to power in November 1975,became the President of Bangladesh on 21 April 1977,a ministerial system was re-established,and Mashiur Rahman served as a senior minister with the rank and status of prime minister in charge of the Ministry of Railways,Roads and Highways of Bangladesh from 29 June 1978 to 12 March 1979. [1] [6] Mashiur Rahman left a historical mark on strategic foreign partnerships and trade.
Mashiur Rahman was married to Sabera Mashiur Rahman and Amina Mashiur Rahman. He had 11 children,5 sons and 6 daughters. [7] His eldest son,Shawfikul Ghaani Shawpan,was a minister in the governments of President Ziaur Rahman and President Hussain Muhammad Ershad,while his eldest daughter,Mansura Mohiuddin,was a two time member of parliament. Mashiur Rahman died on 12 March 1979 in office as Senior Minister with the rank and status of Prime Minister. After his death,a three-day state mourning was observed and he was given a state funeral,being buried with full honours including a 19-gun salute. [10] Many foreign dignitaries and heads of state wrote condolence letters after his sudden death,including US president Jimmy Carter.
