Mayura is a major Kannada monthly literary magazine published in Karnataka, India, with its headquarters in Mysuru, Karnataka. [2] [3] [4] It is also published in Davanagere, Gulbarga, Mangaluru, Hubli, Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad. [5] [6] [7]

Contents

The magazine includes novels, stories (detective, scientific, and secular), [1] short stories, children's stories, comedy write-ups, film reviews, celebrity interviews, serials/soaps and more. [8] It often publishes stories translated from Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Marathi, English, and other languages. [1]

History

Mayura was started in 1968 by The Printers, Mysore (estd. 1948). [1]

Past writers of the magazine include P. Lankesh, K. P. Poornachandra Tejaswi, Goruru Ramaswamy Iyengar, Anupama Niranjana, M. K. Indira, Jayanth Kaikini, Besagarahalli Ramanna, [9] T. K. Rama Rao, Fakir Mohammad Katpadi, [10] Bolwar Mahammad Kunhi, Veerabhadrappa, Baraguru Ramachandrappa, Beechi, Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, M.H. Nayak Baada, [11] Na D'Souza, and Gopalakrishna Pai. Karnataka Arebhashe Samskruthi mathu Sahitya Academy is an organization under Government of Karnataka for promotion of literature in Arebhashe language. Established on 15 December 2011 by the Government of Karnataka. The purpose of the academy is to preserve and promote the Arebhashe language, Arebhashe literature, and Arebhashe culture. Which has a considerable population of Arebhashe speakers, a language minority in the state Karnataka and Kerala. Arebhashe is a dialect of Kannada spoken mainly by Gowda and other community in the region of Kodagu, Sullia of Dakshina Kannada in the Indian state of Karnataka as well as Bandadka, Kasaragod District in the Indian state of Kerala. The academy was formed by then Chief Minister D. V. Sadananda Gowda.

The Daana Chintamani Attimabbe Award is a literary award dedicated for woman writers in the Indian state of Karnataka. The award was established in 1995 by the government of Karnataka. It is the highest literary honour for woman writers conferred by the Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka State, and recognises works written in the Kannada language.

Girish Rao Hatwar, popularly known as Jogi, is a Kannada writer and journalist. Being one of the Kannada neo-literature writers, he has written short stories, novels and columns in many Kannada periodicals and daily newspapers. He has also written scripts for television serials, lyrics and screen play for movies. A journalist by profession, Jogi is currently a Magazine Editor of Kannada Prabha daily.
