Merril de Silva

Merril de Silva was a Ceylonese lawyer and politician. He was a Member of Parliament from the Minneriya district from 1977 to 1989. He unsuccessfully contested the Polonnaruwa district in the 1970 general elections from the United National Party, but was successful in the 1977 general elections from the Minneriya district. He was the brother of C. P. de Silva and A. H. de Silva, as well as the cousin of Colvin R. de Silva. [1]

Minneriya electoral district was an electoral district of Sri Lanka between March 1960 and February 1989. The district was named after the town of Minneriya in Anuradhapura District, North Central Province. The 1978 Constitution of Sri Lanka introduced the proportional representation electoral system for electing members of Parliament. The existing 160 mainly single-member electoral districts were replaced with 22 multi-member electoral districts. Minneriya electoral district was replaced by the Anuradhapura multi-member electoral district at the 1989 general elections, the first under the proportional representation system, continues to be a polling division of the multi-member electoral district.

A. H. de Silva was a Ceylonese lawyer and politician. He was a Member of Parliament from the Polonnaruwa district from 1960 to 1964. He was deafted in the 1965 general election. Educated at St Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia and the Ceylon Law College, he took over his father's practice as a proctor in Balapitiya and Galle. He was the brother of C. P. de Silva and Merril de Silva, as well as the cousin of Colvin R. de Silva.

Ratna Deshapriya Senanayake was a Sri Lankan politician. He was a member of parliament and Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister of Planning and Employment.
