Taxonomy

The genus Micractinium was formerly placed in the family Micractiniaceae, characterized by sexual reproduction without the production of zoospores, and colonies covered with bristles. Molecular phylogenetic studies showed that Micractiniaceae was polyphyletic and that Micractinium was closely related to Chlorella . [2] Accordingly, Micractinium has been transferred to the family Chlorellaceae. [1]

Chlamydomonadales Order of green algae

Chlamydomonadales, also known as Volvocales, are an order of flagellated or pseudociliated green algae, specifically of the Chlorophyceae. Chlamydomonadales can form planar or spherical colonies. These vary from Gonium up to Volvox. Each cell has two flagella, and is similar in appearance to Chlamydomonas, with the flagella throughout the colony moving in coordination.

Glaucophyte Division of algae

The glaucophytes, also known as glaucocystophytes or glaucocystids, are a small group of freshwater unicellular algae, less common today than they were during the Proterozoic. The stated number of species in the group varies from about 14 to 26. Together with the red algae (Rhodophyta) and the green algae plus land plants, they form the Archaeplastida. However, the relationships among the red algae, green algae and glaucophytes are unclear, in large part due to limited study of the glaucophytes.

Charales Order of green algae in the division Charophyta

Charales is an order of freshwater green algae in the division Charophyta, class Charophyceae, commonly known as stoneworts. Depending on the treatment of the genus Nitellopsis, living (extant) species are placed into either one family (Characeae) or two. Further families are used for fossil members of the order. Linnaeus established the genus Chara in 1753.

Chlorococcales is a formerly recognized order of green algae in the class Chlorophyceae. As of February 2022, the type family Chlorococcaceae was placed in the order Chlamydomonadales.

Micractiniaceae is a family of green algae in the class Trebouxiophyceae. As of February 2022, AlgaeBase placed only the genus Phythelios in this family, and not the type genus Micractinium.

Oocystaceae is a family of green algae, in the order Chlorellales. The type genus is Oocystis.

Chlorococcum is a genus of green algae, in the family Chlorococcaceae. The alga may be useful in the flocculation of lipids from wastewater.

Dictyosphaerium is a genus of green algae, in the family Chlorellaceae.

Mychonastes is a genus of green algae, specifically of the Chlorophyceae.

Nannochloris Genus of algae

Nannochloris is a genus of green algae in the family Chlorellaceae.

Actinochloridaceae is a family of green algae, in the order Chlamydomonadales.

Characiaceae is a family of green algae in the order Sphaeropleales.

Radiococcaceae is a family of green algae in the order Sphaeropleales.

Sykidion is a genus of green algae. Pseudoneochloris is a synonym of this genus. As of March 2022, Sykidion was the only genus in the family Sykidiacaeae, which was the only family in the order Sykidiales.

Acanthosphaera Genus of algae

Acanthosphaera is a genus of green algae, in the family Chlorellaceae.

The Mesostigmatophyceae are a class of basal green algae found in freshwater. In a narrow circumscription, the class contains a single genus, Mesostigma. AlgaeBase then places the order within its circumscription of Charophyta. A clade containing Chlorokybus and Spirotaenia may either be added, or treated as a sister, with Chlorokybus placed in a separate class, Chlorokybophyceae. When broadly circumscribed, Mesostigmatophyceae may be placed as sister to all other green algae, or as sister to all Streptophyta.

Chlorokybus is a multicellular (sarcinoid) genus of basal green algae or charophyte, a soil alga. It has been classified as the sole member of the family Chlorokybaceae, which is the sole member of the order Chlorokybales, in turn the sole member of the class Chlorokybophyceae.

Champia Genus of algae

Champia is a genus of red algae in the family Champiaceae, first described in 1809 by Nicaise Auguste Desvaux

Sphaerocystidaceae Family of algae

Sphaerocystidaceae is a family of chlorophyte green algae, in the order Chlamydomonadales.
