Mike McGuire is an American college baseball coach and former catcher. He is the head baseball coach at Winthrop University. McGuire played college baseball at the University of Akron from 1990 to 1991 and the University of South Carolina from 1992 to 1993 and played semi-professionally in the Frontier League from 1993 to 1994. He served as head coach of the Morehead State Eagles baseball program from 2013 season to 2019. [1] [2] [3] [4]
McGuire played two seasons for Akron before completing his eligibility at South Carolina. He then played two professional seasons with the Independent Zanesville Greys of the Frontier League.
McGuire began coaching as an assistant for two seasons at Morehead State. He then moved to Winthrop for six seasons. McGuire earned his first head coaching job at Division II Lander. After three seasons with the Bearcats, he returned to Winthrop as associate head coach. After six seasons, he earned another head coaching position at Louisburg, a junior college in North Carolina. After one season, McGuire was hired as head coach at Morehead State. [1] [3]
On June 18, 2019, McGuire left Morehead State to become the head coach for the USC Upstate Spartans baseball program. [5]

Frank Joseph McGuire was an American basketball coach. At the collegiate level, he was head coach for three major programs: St. John's, North Carolina, and South Carolina, winning over a hundred games at each.
Billy Godwin is an American college baseball coach and former pitcher. He is the former head baseball coach at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Godwin played college baseball at Atlantic Christian College in 1986. He was the head baseball coach of East Carolina from 2006 to 2014. In 2015, Godwin was listed as an area scout, based in Emerald Isle, North Carolina, for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball.
Randy Peele is an American college basketball coach. Peele served as the head men's basketball coach at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 1995 to 1999 and Winthrop University to 2007 to 2012.
Cleveland S. Harley Baseball Park is a baseball venue in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It is home to the USC Upstate Spartans baseball team of the NCAA's Division I Big South Conference. It opened on February 1, 2004, when Upstate swept a double header against Tusculum College. The facility has a capacity of 500 spectators.
The Winthrop Eagles baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, United States. The team is a member of the Big South Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The team plays its home games at Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The Eagles are coached by Mike McGuire.
Mik Aoki is a Japanese-American college baseball coach and former player, who is the current head coach at the University of Richmond. Aoki played at Davidson College for coach Jim Stoeckel. Aoki previously coached for the Columbia Lions, Boston College Eagles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Morehead State Eagles.
Gary R. Gilmore is an American college baseball coach who was the head coach of the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. He held the position from the start of the 1996 season until the 2024 season. Under Gilmore, Coastal Carolina qualified for 19 NCAA tournaments, most recently in 2024. In 2016, the team made its first appearance in the College World Series and won the 2016 NCAA National Championship. He was elected to the ABCA Hall of Fame in 2022.
Mike McRae is a Canadian college baseball coach who was the head baseball coach at the College of William & Mary. He was formerly an assistant coach at Virginia Commonwealth University and head coach of the Canisius Golden Griffins. McRae was Canisius's head coach from the start of the 2005 season to the end of the 2017 season. Under McRae in 2013, Canisius advanced to its first NCAA tournament. Before becoming the head coach at Canisius, he was the head coach at Niagara from 2002–2004, and an assistant at several NCAA Division I programs from 1996–2001.
Ty Greene is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the University of South Carolina Upstate, where in 2015 he was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year.
Luke Payne is an American former basketball player and coach. He played both guard positions during his playing days; he was a standout college player for the USC Upstate Spartans before moving to Australia and forging a successful four-year career with the Lakeside Lightning of the State Basketball League (SBL). In 2012, he returned to USC Upstate, joining the Spartans men's basketball team as an assistant coach under his father, Eddie, the head coach.
The 2016–17 USC Upstate Spartans men's basketball team represented the University of South Carolina Upstate during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Spartans, led by 15th-year head coach Eddie Payne, played their home games at the G. B. Hodge Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. They finished the season 17–16, 7–7 in ASUN play to finish in a tie for fourth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the ASUN tournament to Kennesaw State. They were invited to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament where they lost in the first round to Furman.
The 2017–18 USC Upstate Spartans men's basketball team represented the University of South Carolina Upstate during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Spartans, led by first-year head coach Kyle Perry, played their home games at the G. B. Hodge Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. Perry was initially named interim coach upon head coach Eddie Payne's retirement on October 3, 2017, due to health concerns, but had the interim tag removed on October 20 and was named full-time head coach. They finished the season 7–25, 2–12 in ASUN play to finish in last place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the ASUN tournament to Florida Gulf Coast.
Keith Shumate is an American baseball coach and former player, who is the head baseball coach of the Norfolk State Spartans. He played college baseball at Western Carolina from 1985 to 1988. He served as the head coach of the North Carolina A&T Aggies (1997–2011) and the Louisburg Hurricanes (2013–2015).
The 2019 NCAA Division I Baseball season, play of college baseball in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I level, began February 15, 2019. The season progressed through the regular season, many conference tournaments and championship series, and concluded with the 2019 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and 2019 College World Series. The College World Series, consisting of the eight remaining teams in the NCAA tournament and held annually in Omaha, Nebraska, at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, ended on June 26, 2019. The Vanderbilt Commodores won the tournament, and were consequently named national champions.

The Spartans, led by second-year head coach Dave Dickerson, played their home games at the G. B. Hodge Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina, as members of the Big South Conference. They finished the season 13–20, 7–11 in Big South play to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place. They defeated High Point in the first round of the Big South tournament before losing the quarterfinals to Winthrop.
The 2019–20 Winthrop Eagles men's basketball team represented Winthrop University in the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Eagles, led by eighth-year head coach Pat Kelsey, played their home games at the Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill, South Carolina as members of the Big South Conference. They finished the season 24–10, 15–3 in Big South play to finish in a tie for the Big South regular season championship. They defeated USC Upstate, Gardner–Webb and Hampton to be champions of the Big South tournament and earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. However, the NCAA Tournament was cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team was led by third-year head coach Dave Dickerson, and played their home games at G. B. Hodge Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina as members of the Big South Conference.
The 2021–22 Big South Conference men's basketball season started non-conference play on November 9, 2021, and began conference play on January 5, 2022. The regular season ended on February 26, 2022, setting up the 2021–22 Big South Conference men's basketball tournament from March 2 to March 6.
The 2022–23 USC Upstate Spartans men's basketball team represented the University of South Carolina Upstate in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Spartans, led by fifth-year head coach Dave Dickerson, played their home games at the G. B. Hodge Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina as members of the Big South Conference. They finished the season 15–14, 10–8 in Big South play to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place. They defeated Gardner–Webb in the quarterfinals of the Big South tournament before losing the semifinals to UNC Asheville. The Spartans were invited to the CBI, where they were defeated in the first round by Indiana State.
Nield Philip Gordon was an American college basketball coach, administrator and player. He served as the athletic director and men's basketball head coach of the Winthrop Eagles where he was influential in the development of the sports programs at Winthrop University. Gordon played college basketball for the Furman Paladins and was selected in the second round of the 1953 NBA draft by the New York Knicks. He embarked on a coaching career instead of playing professional basketball and spent 30 years at the collegiate level.
