Moth is the third and final full-length album by American indie band Chairlift, released in the United States via Columbia Records on January 22, 2016. [5] The album art was created by NYC visual artist Rebecca Bird. [6]

Before being released, Consequence of Sound , Pitchfork , Stereogum , and Billboard included Moth in their lists of most anticipated albums of 2016, and it has received generally favorable reviews. [14] [15] [16] [17] Brooklyn Magazine named the album its "Album of the Month" for January 2016. [18]

Moth received mostly positive reviews from contemporary music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 73, based on 21 reviews,which indicates "generally favorable reviews". [19] Writing for Allmusic , Tim Sendra characterized Moth as "an album that amplifies the pop aspects of Something and blows it out into a sometimes brilliant listening experience." [9] In a positive review for Exclaim! , Stephen Carlick wrote that "with Moth, Chairlift make a strong claim to being one of pop music's best songwriting teams, with the production and vocal chops to bring their compositions fully and vibrantly to life." [10] Rolling Stone praised the album as "a record where love, music and love for music come together beautifully." [20]

Chairlift was an American synth-pop band. Caroline Polachek and Aaron Pfenning formed Chairlift in 2005 while living in Boulder, Colorado, and Patrick Wimberly joined them when they moved to Brooklyn in 2007. In 2008, Chairlift released their debut album Does You Inspire You. Pfenning left the band in 2010, and as a duo, Polachek and Wimberly released two more albums: 2012's Something and 2016's Moth before announcing the end of Chairlift in December 2016.

Aaron Pfenning is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and record producer who performs under the moniker "Rewards", a name he first used in 2003.

Something is the second full-length album by American indie band Chairlift in the United States via the Columbia Records on January 24, 2012, and in the United Kingdom via Young Turks on January 23, 2012. The first album since founding member Aaron Pfenning left the band in 2010, Something features production from Dan Carey and Alan Moulder. The first single, "Amanaemonesia", was released as a 7" on August 16, 2011 via Terrible Records. In March, 2012, an interactive video for "Met Before" was released. The video, directed by Jordan Fish, allows the viewer to determine the direction the main character takes.
