NAHT Edge is a trade union and professional association delivered by NAHT for middle leaders (for example, heads of department, heads of year and SENCos) in schools. NAHT Edge has members throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and from across the three main stages: early, primary and secondary. NAHT Edge, as part of NAHT, affiliated to the TUC in 2014.
NAHT Edge is advised by its Advisory Council, which consists of seven NAHT Edge members and the NAHT Edge CEO. The Advisory Council will be elected every two years. If Advisory Council members want to continue in the role following their two-year term, they'll need to be re-elected. Members can serve a maximum of two terms.
NAHT members overwhelmingly approved its concept at a special general meeting in late 2013. [1]
It was officially announced at NAHT's annual conference in May 2014 [2] [3] and launched in September that year. [4]

Sir Brendan Paul Barber is a British trade union official. He served as chair of the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) Council until 2020. He is a former general secretary of the United Kingdom's Trades Union Congress (TUC); a post he held from June 2003 until his retirement at the end of 2012. He was appointed Acas Chair in 2014, replacing Ed Sweeney, who had been in the post since 2007. He also serves on the board of the Banking Standards Board (2015–), the Board of Transport for London (2013–), the board of Britain Stronger in Europe (2015–), the Council of City University, London and the board of Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts (2014–).
A student council is an administrative organization of students in different educational institutes ranging from elementary schools to universities and research organizations around the world. These councils exist in most public and private K-12 school systems in different countries. Many universities, both private and public, have a student council as an apex body of all their students' organisations. Student councils often serve to engage students in learning about democracy and leadership, as originally espoused by John Dewey in Democracy and Education (1917).

The Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) was a trade union, teachers' union and professional association, affiliated to the Trades Union Congress, in the United Kingdom representing educators from nursery and primary education to further education. In March 2017, ATL members endorsed a proposed merger with the National Union of Teachers to form a new union known as the National Education Union, which came into existence on 1 September 2017. At that time, approximately 120,000 individuals belonged to the union, making it the third largest teaching and education union in the UK. ATL had members throughout England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, and British Service schools overseas.

Mary Winefride Bousted is a British trade unionist who was the former Joint General-Secretary of the National Education Union (NEU) alongside Kevin Courtney. Bousted was previously General Secretary of the teachers' union, the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) prior to its amalgamation with the National Union of Teachers, forming the NEU.
Alexander Andrew Penman Rowley is a Scottish politician who served as Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party from 2015 to 2017 and acting leader of the party from August to November 2017.
