Prospect is a United Kingdom trade union which represents engineers, managers, scientists and other specialists in both the public and private sectors.
The union was formed on 1 November 2001 by the merger of the Institution of Professionals Managers and Specialists and the Engineers and Managers Association. In 2009, Prospect endorsed a transfer of engagements from the Connect union, the union for managers in the communications sector, which became a part of Prospect on 1 January 2010. [2] It was announced on 30 August 2016 that Bectu members had overwhelmingly voted Yes to a merger with Prospect which took place on 1 January 2017. [3]
Prospect members work in engineering, communications/utilities, the civil service, museums and galleries, in a range of public and private organisations including the Met Office, [4] Health and Safety Executive, [5] Trinity House, [6] Babcock, [7] BT Group [8] and the National Trust. [9]
With a largely professional membership, the union has placed a strong emphasis on developing skills and opportunities for career progression. To this end it launched a standalone website called Careersmart in 2014 which provides information and podcasts on a range of subjects from career appraisals and CV writing to mentoring and pensions. Careersmart followed the 2013 launch of Prospect's Apprenticeship App for mobile devices which saw 12,000 downloads in the first year. [10] In 2015 Prospect launched a Gatsby Charitable Foundation-funded project, known as RegTech, to register workplace technicians. [11] [12]

The Broadcasting, Entertainment, Communications and Theatre Union (Bectu), formerly the Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematograph and Theatre Union, became a sector of the Prospect trade union in the United Kingdom on 1 January 2017 following the merger of Bectu with Prospect. It has approximately 40,000 members who work in broadcasting, film, theatre, IT, telecoms, entertainment, leisure and interactive media.
Picturehouse Cinemas is a network of cinemas in the United Kingdom, operated by Picturehouse Cinemas Ltd and owned by Cineworld. The company runs its own film distribution arm, Picturehouse Entertainment, which has released acclaimed films such as Hirokazu Kore-eda's Broker and Monster, Scrapper, Corsage, Sally Potter's The Party, Francis Lee's God's Own Country and The Wife. NXT UK was a professional wrestling streaming television programme that was produced exclusively in the United Kingdom by the American promotion WWE. It aired on BT Sport and 5Action. In the United States, the show was available to stream on Peacock, while in other countries, it aired on the WWE Network. The show featured competitors from WWE's NXT UK brand. It was officially announced during the 2018 United Kingdom Championship Tournament. The final episode of the programme aired on 1 September 2022, following the announcement that the NXT UK brand would be replaced by a planned NXT Europe.
