The Chao Phraya is the major river in Thailand, with its low alluvial plain forming the centre of the country. It flows through Bangkok and then into the Gulf of Thailand.
The iridescent shark is a species of shark catfish native to the rivers of Southeast Asia. Despite its name, it is not a shark. It is found in the Mekong basin as well as the Chao Phraya River, and is heavily cultivated for food there.
Stenodus leucichthys is a species of freshwater whitefish in the family Salmonidae. In the strict sense its natural distribution is restricted to the Caspian Sea basin, and it is known as beloribitsa. The beloribitsa is now considered extinct in the wild, but survives in cultured stocks.

Microdevario kubotai is a species of cyprinid found in southeast Asian rivers and streams. It belongs to the genus Microdevario, which contains small danionins. The type locality is in Ranong Province, Peninsular Thailand. It is also known from the adjacent Phang Nga Province and the Ataran basin in Myanmar. It likely occurs elsewhere in the region and an introduced population exists in the Songgaria River. It reaches up to 1.9 cm (0.75 in) in length.
Anduzedoras oxyrhynchus is the only species in the genus Anduzedoras of the catfish family Doradidae. This species originates from the Rio Negro and upper Orinoco River basins of Brazil and Venezuela and reaches a length of 32.3 centimetres (12.7 in) SL.
The Pangani barb is a species of cyprinid fish.
The sharpnose shiner is a species of ray-finned fish in the family Cyprinidae, the carps and minnows. It is endemic to Texas in the United States, where it is limited to the upper Brazos River basin. In 2013 it became a candidate for federal listing as an endangered species of the United States.
Ctenochromis pectoralis, the Pangani haplo, is a species of fish in the family Cichlidae. It was originally characterized in the Pangani River of Tanzania, and may also be present in Kenya. It is listed as extinct by IUCN as a result of a 1996 evaluation, but this appears to be incorrect. A more recent IUCN publication stated that this species is not endangered in any way.
Stenodus nelma, known alternatively as the nelma, sheefish, siifish, inconnu or connie, is a commercial species of freshwater whitefish in the family Salmonidae. It is widespread in the Arctic rivers from the Kola Peninsula eastward across Siberia to the Anadyr River and also in the North American basins of the Yukon River and Mackenzie River.
Bagarius yarrelli, also known as the giant devil catfish or goonch, is a very large species of catfish in the genus Bagarius found in rivers in the Indian subcontinent. It is likely synonymous with B. bagarius.
Barbodes colemani is a species of cyprinid fish. It is endemic to Thailand and restricted to the upper Chao Phraya River basin. It is an uncommon species that inhabits streams and river tributaries, occasionally the mainstreams. Its placement in the genus Barbodes is not universally accepted and the Catalog of Fishes places this species in the genus Discherodontus.
Hydrocynus goliath, also known as the goliath tigerfish, giant tigerfish, or mbenga, is a very large African predatory freshwater fish of the family Alestidae.
Elopichthys bambusa, the yellowcheek or kanyu, is a large cyprinid fish that is found in freshwater habitats in eastern Asia. It ranges from the Amur River in Russia, through China to the Red and Lam Rivers in Vietnam. It prefers relatively warm waters, entirely avoiding colder highlands. It is considered an important food fish where it occurs, reaching up to 2 m in total length and 52.2 kg (115 lb) in weight.
Nandus is a genus of Asian leaffishes native to southern and southeastern Asia.
Nandus nandus, commonly known as the Gangetic leaffish, is a species of Asian leaffish native to South Asia and Indochina. They are common in slow-moving or stagnant bodies of water, including ponds, lakes, ditches, and flooded fields. Other common names of the species include mottled nandus and mud perch. They are commercially important and are highly prized as food fish. They are also caught for the aquarium trade.
Medjed was a species of the family elephantfish worshipped at Oxyrhynchus in ancient Egyptian religion. These fish were believed to have eaten the penis of the god Osiris after his brother Set had dismembered and scattered the god's body. A settlement in Upper Egypt, Per-Medjed, was named after the fish and is now better known under its Greek name Oxyrhynchus.
The sharpnose darter is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish, a darter from the subfamily Etheostomatinae, part of the family Percidae, which also contains the perches, ruffes and pikeperches. It is found in North America where it occurs in the southern tributaries of upper Ohio River, to the Kentucky River in Kentucky, south in the New River drainage to North Carolina. It prefers gravel runs and riffles of small to medium-sized rivers.
