Nanocochlea monticola is a species of minute freshwater snail with a gill and an operculum, an aquatic gastropod mollusk in the family Hydrobiidae. This species is endemic to Australia.
The common rock thrush, also known as rufous-tailed rock thrush or simply rock thrush, is a chat belonging to the family Muscicapidae. It was formerly placed in the family Turdidae. The scientific name is from Latin. Monticola is from mons, montis "mountain", and colere, "to dwell", and saxatilis means "rock-frequenting", from saxum, "stone".
Western white pine also called silver pine, and California mountain pine, in the family Pinaceae, is a species of pine that occurs in the mountains of the western United States and Canada, specifically the Sierra Nevada, the Cascade Range, the Coast Range, and the northern Rocky Mountains. The tree extends down to sea level in many areas, particularly in Oregon and Washington. It is found at elevations of from 6,000 to 10,000 feet on the western face of the Sierra Nevada as far south as the headwaters of the Kern River. It is the state tree of Idaho, and is sometimes known as the Idaho pine.
The blue-capped rock thrush is a species of chat.
Ovophis monticola is a venomous pitviper species found in Asia. Currently, two subspecies are recognized, including the nominate subspecies described here. Recent taxonomic work suggests that most of these should be considered as separate species. IUCN has already evaluated O. m. makazayazaya as Ovophis makazayazaya.
Amolops monticola is a species of frog in the family Ranidae, the "true frogs". It is found in the Northeast India, eastern Nepal, and western China, although there is some uncertainty regarding the Chinese records. It probably also occurs in the intervening Bhutan. Common names mountain sucker frog, mountain stream frog, mountain torrent frog, and mountain cascade frog have been coined for it.
Dalbergia monticola is a species of flowering plant in the legume family Fabaceae. It is endemic to Madagascar. It occurs at higher elevation, which gave the species its name.
The lesser sheath-tailed bat is a species of sac-winged bat in the family Emballonuridae. It is found in the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, and many other parts of the Indonesian Archipelago. It is locally threatened by habitat loss.
Callitris monticola, or dwarf cypress, is a species of conifer in the family Cupressaceae. It shares the common name with several other plants. It is found only in Australia. It is threatened by habitat loss.
Juniperus monticola, or mountain juniper, is a species of conifer in the family Cupressaceae. It is found only in Mexico.
Alsodes monticola is a species of frog in the family Alsodidae. It is found in southern Chile and western Santa Cruz Province, Argentina, though its presence in Argentina is disputed. Its habitat preferences are not known, but the region of the type locality has tundra and islands of Nothofagus forest.
The Seram honeyeater is a species of bird in the family Meliphagidae. It is endemic to Indonesia, where it occurs on Seram in the southern Maluku Islands. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
The Miombo rock thrush is a species of bird in the family Muscicapidae. It is found in Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitat is dry savanna.
The white-winged cliff chat is a species of passerine bird in the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae. It is found in rocky wooded gorges, among boulders and in road cuttings within the Ethiopian Highlands.
The long-billed thrush is a species of bird in the family Turdidae. It is found from the Himalayas to Myanmar and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
The montane shrew tenrec is a species of mammal in the family Tenrecidae. It is endemic to Madagascar. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
The mountain pocket gopher is a species of rodent in the family Geomyidae.
The Sunda shrew is a species of mammal in the family Soricidae found in Indonesia and Malaysia. Populations from the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo are now considered to belong to Crocidura neglecta The widespread species C. neglecta sensu lato, exhibits high levels of diversity. The divergence among populations from Peninsular Malaysia, west Borneo and north-east Borneo is higher than that among many other recognised related species, suggesting that these might deserve specific status. Species delimitation based on private allele sharing also supports the species-level recognition of these populations and perhaps also that of the Bukit Baka population. However, these have not been described due to lack of morphological evidence and the small number of localities included in species delimitation analyses. An increase in specimen collection and geographic coverage will be needed to characterize the fine-scale distribution of this diversity and resolve the taxonomy of this group.
Nanocochlea is a genus of minute freshwater snails with an operculum, aquatic gastropod mollusks in the family Hydrobiidae.
Nanocochlea pupoidea is a species of minute freshwater snail with a gill and an operculum, an aquatic gastropod mollusk in the family Hydrobiidae. This species is endemic to Australia.
Nepenthes monticola is a tropical pitcher plant known from a number of mountains in the west central highlands of West Papua, New Guinea, where it grows at elevations of 1400–2620 m above sea level. Prior to its description as a species in 2011, N. monticola was lumped with the closely related N. lamii.
