The New Conservatives are a parliamentary group of predominantly red wall [2] Conservative MPs who aimed to shape the Conservative Party's policies ahead of the 2024 United Kingdom general election. [3] Politico described the group as having 25 members in July 2023. [4]
The group was created on Sunday, 21 May 2023, [3] [5] and has no official leader, although the co-founders, the former Penistone and Stocksbridge MP Miriam Cates and the former Devizes MP Danny Kruger are the chairs behind the initiative. [3] [6]
In October 2023, the group proposed banning "gender ideology" within state schools as one of their platforms. [7]
In November 2023, it was reported by Sky News that the group had met to discuss Suella Braverman potentially "making a play" for a Conservative party leadership. [8]
The group describes itself as wishing to return to the Conservative Party's 2019 manifesto. [9] Politico by cutting immigration to below 226,000, as well as focusing on law and order and to tackle perceived bias in education. [10]

The group was originally made up of 24 Conservative MPs elected primarily after the Brexit referendum, [3] [12] [13] however only three members have retained their seats.

The Conservative Party Conference (CPC) is a four-day national conference event held by the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom. It takes place every year around October during the British party conference season, when the House of Commons is usually in recess. The event's location has alternated between Birmingham's International Convention Centre (ICC) and Manchester's Central Convention Complex since 2008. Previously, it had alternated between Blackpool and Bournemouth. In contrast to the Liberal Democrat Conference, where every party member attending its Conference, either in-person or online, has the right to vote on party policy, under a one member, one vote system, or the Labour Party Conference, where 50% of votes are allocated to affiliated organisations, and in which all voting is restricted to nominated representatives, the Conservative Party Conference does not hold votes on party policy.
Sir Michael Tyrone Ellis is a British politician and barrister who served as Attorney General for England and Wales between September and October 2022, having previously served in the position from March to September 2021 during the maternity leave of Suella Braverman. A member of the Conservative Party, he previously served as Paymaster General from 2021 to 2022 and as Minister for the Cabinet Office from February to September 2022. Ellis served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Northampton North from 2010 to 2024.
Bright Blue is an independent centre-right think tank and pressure group with a mission statement of defending and improving liberal society, based in the United Kingdom. Founded in 2014 by British thinker Ryan Shorthouse, Bright Blue aims to "defend and champion liberal, open, democratic and meritocratic values, institutions and policies." Bright Blue is a membership-based think tank, with membership open to anyone who identifies as a liberal conservative. It publishes political research, recommends and vets public policy, and hosts political events.
Rishi Sunak is a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2022 to 2024. He has been Leader of the Conservative Party since October 2022; after the 2024 general election, he became Leader of the Opposition. The first British Asian to hold those offices, he previously held two Cabinet positions under Boris Johnson, latterly as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022. Sunak has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Richmond and Northallerton, previously Richmond (Yorks), since 2015. He is the most recent Conservative Party prime minister.

Sue-Ellen Cassiana "Suella" Braverman is a British politician and barrister who served as Home Secretary from 6 September 2022 to 19 October 2022, and again from 25 October 2022 to 13 November 2023. A member of the Conservative Party, she was chair of the European Research Group from 2017 to 2018 and Attorney General for England and Wales from 2020 to March 2021, and again from September 2021 to 2022. She was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Fareham from 2015 until 2024 before the redrawing of UK constituency boundaries, and currently holds the new seat of Fareham and Waterlooville.
Richard John Holden is a British politician who was the Chairman of the Conservative Party from November 2023 until his resignation on 8 July 2024 following the 2024 General Election. He served as Member of Parliament (MP) for North West Durham from 2019 until May 2024. He was elected MP for Basildon and Billericay in 2024, with 20 votes more than the Labour candidate. Holden served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Roads and Local Transport from October 2022 to November 2023 and as Minister without Portfolio from November 2023 to July 2024.

The main focus of the bill is to reduce or end "small boat crossings", across the English Channel, by ways described as "pushing against international law".

Cleverly was replaced as Foreign Secretary by the former Prime Minister David Cameron, who was made a life peer as Baron Cameron of Chipping Norton.
