Dera Sacha Sauda is an Indian non-governmental organization described as a "religious cult" and "non-profit social welfare dera" that was established on 29 April 1948 by Mastana Balochistani, an ascetic follower of Baba Sawan Singh, as a centre for religious learning. After Baba Sawan Singh, the movement split into four groups, one of them led by Mastana Balochistani. After the death of Mastana Balochistani, his movement was split into three groups, with Satnam Singh leading the Sirsa group, who selected Gurmeet Ram Rahim to be his successor. Dera Sacha Sauda's main centre is situated in the city of Sirsa in Haryana state, northern India. The organisation has 46 ashrams (divisions) across India and other countries.

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is a centre-right Sikh-centric state political party in Punjab, India. The party is the second-oldest in India, after Congress, being founded in 1920. Although, there are many parties with the name Akali Dal but the party recognised as "Shiromani Akali Dal" by the Election Commission of India is the one led by Sukhbir Singh Badal. It controls Sikh religious bodies Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and is the largest and most influential Sikh political party worldwide. The basic philosophy of Akali Dal was to give a political voice to Sikh issues and it believed that religion and politics go hand in hand but after 1996 Moga Conference party adopted moderate Punjabi secular agenda. On 26 september 2020, they left the NDA over the BJP's controversial agriculture bill.

Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966

The Punjab Reorganisation Act was passed by the Indian Parliament on 18 September 1966, dissolving the former state of East Punjab. Out of the former East Punjab, the modern state of Punjab was created, the new state of Haryana was created; territory was transferred to Himachal Pradesh, then a Union territory; and the city of Chandigarh became a temporary Union territory to serve as the provisional capital of both the Punjab and Haryana. This separation was the result of the Punjabi Suba movement, which agitated for the creation of a Punjabi-speaking state ; in the process a majority Hindi-speaking state was created.

Teshan is a 2016 Indian Punjabi-language romantic comedy film directed by Sukhbir Singh, written by Prince KJ Singh and starring Happy Raikoti and Diljott in lead roles, with Yograj Singh, Shavinder Mahal, Karamjit Anmol, Prince KJ Singh in supporting roles in the film. The Film is about the relations and simplicity of the village people, shown through different perspectives. The shooting commenced in March 2016 and release on 23 September 2016.

Ravinder Singh Dhull Indian politician

Ravinder Singh Dhull is a politician of the State of Haryana, India. He is Additional Advocate General for the State of Haryana and posted as such in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He is State Media Penalist for Bhartiya Janta Party, Haryana. Earlier he has served as State Spokesperson for the Indian National Lok Dal from August 2014 till June 2019. His father Parminder Singh Dhull served as two time Member of Legislative Assembly of Haryana from Julana constituency in Jind District. His grand father Chaudhary Dal Singh was a noted politician of the area and six time M.L.A. from District Jind.

2017 Northern India riots

On 25 August 2017, widespread rioting in northern India broke out after Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the religious leader of Dera Sacha Sauda, was convicted of rape. The riots began in Panchkula and later spread to other parts of the northern Indian states of Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and the capital, New Delhi. At least 41 people were killed, the majority of them in Panchkula, where 32 people were allegedly killed by police gunfire. More than 300 others were injured.
